Furtherimportantsafetynotices
Do not use in enclosed spaces in case poisonous fumes gather that may lead to serious or even fatal
injury.
Only use this grill in the open in a well ventilated place. Do not use the grill in garages, buildings,
walkways between buildings or any other such enclosed space.
Never use the grill under combustible roofs, shelters etc.
Incorrect assembly can be dangerous. Please strictly adhere to the separate accompanying assembly inst-
ructions. Do not use this grill until all parts have been correctly assembled. Before lighting the grill ensure
that the ash catcher is correctly fixed beneath the bowl of the grill.
Use appropriate care when using the grill. The grill becomes hot when grilling. Never leave the grill unsu-
pervised when in use.
This kettle grill becomes very hot and should not be handled during operation except with grill gloves,
and then only at the places necessary for operating it.
Always wear barbecue mitts when grilling or adjusting the vents as well as when using a chimney starter.
Wait until the grill has cooled down until moving it.
Do not make any modifications to the product.
Damaged appliances or damaged accessories may no longer be used.
The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage which arises from improper or frivolous use.
The manufacturer does not accept any responsibility for damage which occurs while using the appliance
or for any claims by third parties.
Only for private use!
Only use this grill at a distance of at least 1.5 m from combustible materials. Examples of combustible
items include (but are not limited to) wood, treated wooden floors, wooden decking and wooden porch-
es.
Always place the briquettes or charcoal in the charcoal basket or on the lower flip grate.
When lighting or using the grill do not wear clothing with loose sleeves.
Protect yourself from sparks and hot, spattering grease. To protect your clothing, we recommend wearing
a grill apron.
Always place the grill on a stable, level surface protected from the wind.
Open the lid whilst lighting and warming the charcoal.
Never touch the cooking- or flip grate, ashes, charcoal or grill to test if they are warm.
Do not pour water to dampen down flames or extinguish the embers in the grill. By extinguishing with
water, damage can be caused to the porcelain-enamelled upper surface. Instead, close the lower vent as
required and close the lid.
After cooking extinguish the coals by closing all vents and placing the lid on the bowl.
When preparing food, adjusting the vents, placing charcoal and using the thermometer or lid always wear
barbecue mitts.
Use grilling tools with long, heat-resistant handles.
17
English
Never dispose of hot ashes or briquettes that are still glowing. There is a risk of fire. Only dispose of ashes
and left over coals when they are completely extinguished and cooled down.
Never vacuum up the ashes!
Keep the grilling surface free from flammable gases and liquids (e.g. fuel, alcohol etc.) and other combus-
tible materials.
When lighting the grill coals with an electric igniter, adhere to the attached user manual.
Keep power cable away from hot surfaces of the grill and well used areas.
The ability of the user to correctly assemble and safely use the grill can be impaired by the consumption
of alcohol and/or prescription or non-prescription drugs.
This appliance is not intended to be used by people (including children) with limited physical, sensory or
mental capacities or those lacking experience and/or knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person
who is competent to ensure their safety or are given instructions by them as to how to use the appliance.
The RÖSLE kettle grill is not intended for use in caravans, camper vans and/or boats.
Never line the bottom of the grill with foil. This could prevent the grease from draining, allowing it to
collect on the foil and catch fire.
WARNING, lining the grilling chamber with aluminium foil obstructs the air flow. Instead, when using the
indirect method, use a drip pan to catch the juices that drip from the meat.
Do not use sharp or pointed objects to clean the cooking grate or remove ashes. Otherwise the upper sur-
face may be damaged.
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents on the cooking grate or grill. Otherwise the upper surface may be da-
maged.
Do not move the grill over high ledges/steps or very uneven surfaces.
The grill must be thoroughly cleaned regularly.
To protect the food and the grill, temperatures should not exceed 300°C / 626°F. Grill parts may warp at
higher temperatures.
CAUTION! The maximum capacity of charcoal is:
Grills with Ø 50 cm | 20 in.: 1.5 kg | 3.3 lbs charcoal
Grills with Ø 60 cm | 24 in.: 2.5 kg | 5.5 lbs charcoal
By-products (chemical/poisonous) present during the grilling process may, in particular with incorrect
handling or use of unsuitable firelighters, be harmful to health. These can lead to cancer, pregnancy prob-
lems and other consequential harm.

2. Usingthegrillforthersttime
Place the RÖSLE kettle grill on a straight and stable surface. Ensure that before lighting the coals, the ash
catcher is properly attached and all dampers are open. We recommend using grill lighters (conforming to
EN 1860-3) instead of liquid relighter. To achieve a constant high heat RÖSLE recommends the use of good
quality charcoal-briquettes or charcoal. Ensure the quality of grill coals by paying attention to the EN-logo.
Store these in a dry place.
For a grilling time of 1 hour you require approx. 1 kg of standard charcoal briquettes, with charcoal you will
require approx. 1.5 kg. Caution! The maximum capacity of charcoal is:
Grills with Ø 50 cm | 20 in.: 1.5 kg | 3.3 lbs charcoal,
Grills with Ø 60 cm | 24 in.: 2.5 kg | 5.5 lbs charcoal.
When using for the rst time leave the burning material to heat through for at least 30 minutes with the lid
closed.
2.1
Heatingthegrillwiththeipgrate
Insert the ip grate, cover with standard relighters and light them. Do not use any liquid such as petrol,
spirits or similar liquid accelerant to do this. As soon as the grill lighters are burning they can be covered
with charcoal briquettes. Ensure that the burning charcoal briquettes do not come into direct contact with
the sides of the grill. Leave the coals burning with the lid open for about 30 45 minutes until they glow
evenly all over and are surrounded by a layer of white ash. Only then start grilling.
Never add liquid relighter or coals soaked in it to hot or warm charcoal!
2.2 Easystepstobecomingagrillprofessional
Read the recipe through and look for the instructions on setting the grill. With the RÖSLE kettle grill you
have two cooking methods available to you – direct or indirect. On the following pages you will find spe-
cific instructions.
Do not try to save time by placing the food on the grill when the correct grilling temperature has not
been been reached. Leave the charcoal to burn until a layer of light-grey ash has formed on the coals (lea-
ve the air vents open so that the fire does not go out).
Use a barbecue turner or tongs, but not a fork. These let juices escape and with them flavour which leaves
the food dry.
Check the food fits onto the grill before closing the lid. Ideally there should be a gap of approx. 2 cm bet-
ween individual food items.
Do not keep opening the lid to look at the food. Every time the lid is lifted heat escapes, in other words
the meal takes longer to reach the table.
Only turn the food once if the recipe so requires.
If you close the lid of the grill, flames cannot build up under the food, you reduce the cooking time and
get better grill results.
Never flatten food such as e. g. burgers. Doing this squeezes the juice out of the meat and dries the food.
If you baste the food lightly with oil it will brown evenly and not stick to the cooking grate. Only brush or
spray the food with oil and not the cooking grate.
Tip:
Wash your hands and the implements thoroughly with hot water and detergent before and after handling
fresh meat, sh or poultry. Alternatively you could use disposable gloves.
Never put cooked food on the same plate on which you have had raw food.
Only defrost your food in the fridge and not at room temperature.

3. Cooking with the RÖSLE kettle grill
3.1 Preparingthegrill
Open all dampers and the lid before lighting the fire.
Tip:Remove accumulated ash as required from the bottom part of the grill (only after the coals are com-
pletely extinguished). Charcoal requires oxygen to burn. Check that the vents are free of dirt.
Place the grill lighters on the flip grate and light them (Only use firelighters that comply with EN 1860-3!)
Do not begin grilling until the coals are covered with a light layer of ash. This takes about 30 45 minutes.
Then arrange the coals using long tongs or coal rake according to the desired method of grilling.
Tip: For an extra smoked avour you can add smoke chips or fresh herbs such as Rosemary, Thyme or Bay
Leaves to the embers. Lay the herbs or wood directly onto the coals when you begin grilling.
3.2 Direct method
With the direct method the food is cooked directly over the prepared coals. Food that requires less than 25
minutes to cook is grilled with the direct method. To be cooked through evenly the food should be turned
once halfway through the cooking time. These are e. g. steaks, chops, kebabs and vegetables.
Open all dampers
Place the grill lighters at the flip grate and light them
Place the recommended amount of charcoal or bri-
quettes in the middle of the flip grate or in the RÖSLE
chimney starter (available separately)
Now light them. Leave the lid open until the charcoal has
a light covering of grey ash, this takes about 30 45 min-
utes.
Spread the hot coals using grill tongs or a coal rake even-
ly in the middle of the flip grate
Place the cooking grate over the coals. Please use barbe-
cue mitts for this
Lay the food onto the cooking grate
Close the lid (with the lid ventilator and bowl vents
open). Under grilling instructions in this brochure you will find the recommended cooking times.
If required the lid can be left open or even removed for this method of cooking. To do this remove, when
the grill is cold, the pin from the hinge on the lid and remove the connecting bolt from the hinges. Now re-
place the pin in the bolt and keep in a safe place. The lid cannot be used again until the grill has cooled
down again. If required reattach the lid to the cold grill.
Directmethodwithipgrate
Turn the grate so that the depression is in the centre and light
the recommended amount of coals as described above using
grill relighter cubes. Put the coals into the depression in the
centre of the grill grate.
21
English
3.3 Indirect method
The indirect method is recommend for food that requires more
than 25 minutes cooking time or is so tender that it would dry
out or burn using the direct method. With the indirect method
the embers are arranged along the side underneath the food
on the ip grate.
The heat rises up, circulates and is reected by the closed lid.
The food is slowly and evenly cooked from all sides. It should
not need be turned.
The following foods are suited to indirect grilling:
Joints, beer can chicken, poultry with bones and whole sh as
well as tender sh llets.
Tip:With meat that requires more than an hour’s cooking time, extra charcoal should be added to the sides
if required (see following table). Because of the hinged cooking grate it is easy to add extra charcoal. Wait
approx.10 minutes with the lid open until this is completely burning. Then close the lid again and continue
with the cooking process.
Tip: If using a chimney starter, the charcoal can be added to the embers in this way. Take off the cooking
grate by using protective gloves because of the ying ash und rell the hot charcoal as you like.
Then after adding more the cooking process can continue straight away.
Open all dampers
Place the flip grate in the indirect position into the grill
(see picture!). Lay the grill lighters (only use firelighters
that comply with EN 1860-3) on the flip grate and light
them.
Fill the flip grate left and right equally (see picture!) with
the recommended amounts of charcoal or briquettes.
Leave the lid open until the charcoal has a light covering
of grey ash, this takes about 30 45 minutes.
Place the cooking grate over the coals. Please use barbe-
cue mitts for this.
Place the food on the cooking grate.
Close the lid (with the lid ventilator and bowl vents open).
In the grilling instructions in this brochure you will find re-
commended cooking times.
Indirectmethodwithipgrate
Turn the grate so that the depression is at the outer edge and
light the recommended amount of coals as described above
using grill relighter cubes. Add the coals into the outer de-

pression in a circle or on the left and right.
3.4 Ventilation system
The RÖSLE kettle grill has the optimum ventilation system
for grilling with charcoal, since the two ventilation ope-
nings (top and bottom) enable the air supply – and thus
the temperature –to be efciently regulated.
To operate the top vent, use the ventilation ventilation
with the provided wire handle to slide it into the desired
position.
For the bottom vent, slide the lever to OFF / AUS, from
high temperature (big flame) to low temperture (small
flame).
For charcoal to burn correctly and produce the desired
temperature, it requires an adequate air supply. When
you are ready to light the coals, set the bottom vent lever
to "high" and open the cover all the way. Then enough air enters the grill to light the coals quickly.
The grill temperature reached depends on various factors, such as air supply, quality and quantity of char-
coal, and ambient temperature.
Depending on the grilling technique you are using, you may need a higher or lower temperature in the
grill. A greater air supply will result in a higher temperature; a lower air supply makes it possible to grill at
a lower temperature.
To raise the temperature, set the bottom vent to "high" and open the top vent all the way. To reach a lo-
wer temperature, set the bottom vent to "low" and open the top vent only part way.
When you use your grill, over time you will learn which vent settings are best suited for your grilling tech-
nique and the food you are grilling.
To extinguish the fire, close the bottom and top ventilation openings all the way
3.5 Grill instructions.
The following information for pieces, thickness, weight and grilling times are for guidance only and not
binding. Grilling times are inuenced by height, wind, outside temperature and the desired way the food is
to be done.
Grill steaks, sh llets, boneless chicken pieces and vegetables using the direct method for the time shown
in the table or according to taste and turn the food once halfway through cooking.
Grill joints, poultry with bones, whole sh and thick cuts using the indirect method using the times shown
in the table as a guide. Alternatively a roasting thermometer can be used that shows the desired tempera-
ture. Grill times for beef are for medium, unless otherwise stated.

4. Maintenance, cleaning and storage
Ensure the grill has cooled down by checking the temperature with a thermometer.
Ensure that the coals are no longer glowing. Allow the charcoal to cool down for long enough.
Remove the cooking- and flip grate.
Dispose of the ash from the bowl and the ash catcher.
Clean the grill with a mild cleaning agent and water. Thoroughly rinse with clean water and dry the sur-
faces.
The cooking grate must be cleaned after every use. Remove the deposits easily with the RÖSLE barbecue
cleaning brush or a soft steel bush. Then wipe with a damp cloth.
To ensure a long life for your grill, we recommend that once the grill has cooled down you protect it from
the elements with a suitable RÖSLE cover. To prevent the build up of moisture, remove the cover after it
has rained. Then let the grill and dust cover dry completely.
If you follow these tips you will be able to enjoy your RÖSLE kettle grill for many years.
