WARNING
READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL BEFORE INSTALLING OR OPERATING.
ARC WELDING AND CUTTING CAN BE INJURIOUS TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS. TAKE PRECAU-
TIONS WHEN WELDING. ASK FOR YOUR EMPLOYER’S SAFETY PRACTICES WHICH SHOULD BE
BASED ON MANUFACTURERS’ HAZARD DATA.
ELECTRIC SHOCK -- Can kill
S Install and earth the welding unit in accordance with applicable standards.
S Do not touch live electrical parts or electrodes with bare skin, wet gloves or wet clothing.
S Insulate yourself from earth and the workpiece.
S Ensure your working stance is safe.
FUMES AND GASES -- Can be dangerous to health
S Keep your head out of the fumes.
S Use ventilation, extraction at the arc, or both, to take fumes and gases away from your breathing zone
and the general area.
ARC RAYS -- Can injure eyes and burn skin.
S Protect your eyes and body. Use the correct welding screen and filter lens and wear protective
clothing.
S Protect bystanders with suitable screens or curtains.
FIRE HAZARD
S Sparks (spatter) can cause fire. Make sure therefore that there are no inflammable materials nearby.
NOISE -- Excessive noise can damage hearing
S Protect your ears. Use earmuffs or other hearing protection.
S Warn bystanders of the risk.
MALFUNCTION -- Call for expert assistance in the event of malfunction.
PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS!
2 INTRODUCTION
PAH 1 is a simple and easy--to--use controller, which can be connected to the remote
socket on the MEK 4S, MEK 4 SP, ESABFeed 30--4 or ESABFeed 48--4 in order to
create own synergic lines.
PAH 1 consists of a switch with four positions, where four work points can be stored.
Each synergic line consists of four work points for voltage and wire feed.

3 OPERATION
3.1 Programming synergic lines
MEK 4S, MEK 4SP
The programming procedure is as follows:
S Connect the PAH 1 controller to connector 9.
S Switch 26 on MEK 4SP must not be in pulse mode.
S Set selector switch 22 to either setting 7 o r 8 and
set switch 25 to setting B, connect PAH 1. T he wire
feed unit will now operate as if it is in manual
mode.
S Set the selector switch on the PAH 1 controller to
setting 1.
S Adjust the wire feed speed using knob 7 and adjust
the welding voltage using knob 8 for work point
1.
S Make a test weld, and if necessary adjust the
settings to produce a satisfactory weld.
S Press the save button 20, and hold it in until lamp 21 lights up, then release the
button.
S Repeat steps 4, 5, 6, 7 for settin g s 2, 3, 4 on the PAH 1 controller (creates work
points 2, 3, 4).
S Disconnect PAH 1, to return to synergic operation.
ESABFeed 30--4 an d ESABFeed 48--4
Programme as follows:
S Set switch 10 in position B and use
switch 8 to select position 7 or 8.
S Connect PAH 1 to the remote control
unit socket. T he wire feed unit now
functions the same as in m anual
operation
S Set the switch on PAH 1 to position 1.
S Set wire feed and welding voltage for
work point 1. You can adjust wire feed
and voltage between their minimum
and maximum limits.
S Test weld, if necessary adjust set
data until the welding performance is
good. Store set data with the store button 6.
S Do the corresponding settings for work point 2, 3 and 4 ( T he switch on PAH 1 in
position 2, 3 and 4.)
When programming is complete and the programming box disconnected, the wire
feed unit is in synergic operation.

NOTE! Weld data in setting 2 must be higher than in 1.
3 must be higher than in 2.
4 must be higher than in 3.
The wire feed can neither be set lower than Wfs1 nor higher than Wfs4, as opposed
to the fixed lines where the wire feed can be set between 1.9 and 25 m/min.
3.2 Programming synergic lines with pulsing
MEK 4SP
When you create your own synergic lines it is useful to have some base values to
work from.
The table below shows the values that apply to the pre--programmed synergic lines.
