Ethernet Interface Option
Owner's Manual
Introduction
The Ethernet interface option is used as a communication link for the MOSCAD, MOSCAD-L and
MOSCAD- NFM units with Local Area Networks (LAN).
The Ethernet interface option supports TCP/IP protocol on a TWISTED PAIR (TP) connector, with
automatic polarity correction.
The Ethernet interface option is available in the following hardware configurations:
Ethernet Plug-in Option
Enclosed in the CPU modules of the MOSCAD and MOSCAD-L, the Ethernet Plug-in provides direct
connection to LAN. When Ethernet Plug-in board is installed, Port 3 serves for Ethernet connection. Use
shielded cable for LAN connection. Install suppression core (Fair-Rite
P.N 044316415)onthecableusedfor
LAN connection, as shown in the figure below.
Note: Due to physical limitations, the Ethernet Plug-in board cannot be installed in MOSCAD CPU
module that is already configured with a memory expansion board.

External Ethernet Unit Option
Enclosed in a plastic box, the Ethernet unit provides an RS-232 port for connection of MOSCAD units to
LAN. The external Ethernet unit is powered by 12VDC and has indication LED's on its front panel.
The external Ethernet unit is used with the MOSCAD-NFM, and with CPU modules of the
MOSCAD or
MOSCAD-L that are not enhanced with an on-board Ethernet Plug-in option. The Ethernet unit is also used
when Port 3 of MOSCAD or MOSCAD-L is occupied by another Plug-in configuration. Using the
ToolBox program, the external Ethernet unit can be upgraded with new system software. The following
figure describes the front panel of the Ethernet unit.

Upgrading the Ethernet Unit/Ethernet Plug-in
The operating system within the Ethernet unit may be upgraded, when required, by connecting a PC running
the ToolBox System Downloader to the Ethernet unit (see figure below). The D-type (female) adapter
should be configured as described in the table below. This adapter and cable directly connects to an RS-232
connector on the PC. Set the data speed for the ToolBox to 19200 bps.
To upgrade the Ethernet Plug-in, the Ethernet Plug-in board should be relocated to an empty Ethernet unit
box and be upgraded like an Ethernet unit.
Note that the number shown in the figure next to an item is the kit or part number.
