Brightness-Enhanced Display Option and
Moisture Deflector Option
3M Dynapro ET 3250 and ET 3255 Computers
About the options
The Brightness-Enhanced (BE) Display and Moisture
Deflector are options for 3M Dynapro ET 3250 and
ET 3255 Computers.
Your ET 3250/3255 computer with Near Field
Imaging (NFI) touch screen technology comes with
one of the following options:
nMoisture Deflector
nwith standard display
nwith BE display
nBE Display only (no Moisture Deflector)
Moisture Deflector
The Moisture Deflector (see Figure 1 and Figure 2) is
a durable plastic component that surrounds the touch
screen display of an ET 3250/3255 to improve
performance in conditions in which moisture might
collect on the unit.
Figure 1: ET 3250/3255 with Moisture Deflector
Brightness-Enhanced (BE) Display
The BE Display option improves the readability of the
display of an ET 3250/3255 in settings where there is
high ambient light (e.g., brightly-lit workplaces).
Handling and maintaining the
Moisture Deflector
The Moisture Deflector is made of durable plastic
and, like other 3M Dynapro components, is designed
to function in rugged conditions.
The Moisture Deflector is not indestructible,
however. Here are a few guidelines to extend its life
and help ensure optimal performance:
nBefore starting the unit, make sure that the
temperature is at least 0ºC.
nDo not hang anything from the Moisture
Deflector. Doing so may cause it to perform
poorly.
nBefore opening the enclosure of the ET 3250/3255
with Moisture Deflector, make sure that the unit is
completely dry. If water has collected on the top of
the enclosure and is not removed before opening
it, moisture might run into the unit.
nWhen handling the unit, do not grasp it by the
Moisture Deflector.
nIf it is necessary to ship the unit for any reason, use
the original packing materials, if possible. Pack
the unit taking care to protect the Moisture
Deflector from damage during shipping.

nDo not attempt to repair the Moisture Deflector
yourself. Doing so will void the warranty.
If cracks develop in the Moisture Deflector or if it
breaks, contact 3M Touch Systems (see
“Contacting 3M Touch Systems‚” on page 3).
nDo not allow dirt or debris to build up on the
Moisture Deflector.
Mounting the ET 3250/3255 with
Moisture Deflector
The ET 3250/3255 with Moisture Deflector must be
mounted vertically. There must be no more than 10
degrees variance from vertical for the Moisture
Deflector to operate.
As long as this 10 degree rule is observed, it is
possible to mount the ET 3250/3255 with the
Moisture Deflector in any of the ways described in the
Getting Started Guide and User’s Guide (see
“Related documents‚” on page 3).
Opening the enclosure of
ET 3250/3255 with Moisture
Deflector
To open the enclosure of ET 3250/3255 Computers
(for a task such as adding an expansion card or
replacing a TouchSurround underlay) follow these
steps:
1. Put on a grounding strap and touch a grounded
object to discharge any built-up static.
2. Look on the back of the bezel for four security
screws and remove them with the appropriate
screwdriver.
3. Find the latch screw on the top of the enclosure
and use an Allen key or a flat-blade screwdriver
to turn the screw ¼ turn counter-clockwise, or
until you feel the enclosure open.
4. Place the computer face down on the work bench
and open the main enclosure as far as it will go.
5. Have one person support the enclosure in the
open position. Follow the instructions in the
Users Guide (see “Related documents‚” on
page 3) to complete your task.
6. When your task is finished, close the bezel
assembly, lock the latch screw, and replace the
four security screws. Tighten the screws to a
torque of 10 inch-pounds.
