Safety Warning
Carefully read the Safety Instructions and Operating Procedures provided in this
guide before attempting to install or operate the appliance. Failure to follow
these instructions may result in damage to equipment and/or personal injuries,
and will void your warranty.
This product contains no user-serviceable parts. Repair, maintenance and servicing of this
appliance are to be carried out only by qualified CTERA personnel.
This product may only be used for the applications described in the user guide, and only
in connection with accessories which have been approved by CTERA.
This product can only function correctly and safely if it is transported, stored, set up, and
installed correctly, and operated and maintained as recommended.
Operate this product only from the type of power source indicated on the product’s
marking label.
You must use only the power supply that originally comes with your product.
Overloaded AC outlets, extension cords, frayed power cords, damaged or cracked wire
insulation, and broken plugs are dangerous. They may result in an electrical shock or fire
hazard.
Route power supply cords so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items
placed upon or against them.
Slots and openings in the enclosure are provided for ventilation, to ensure reliable
operation of the product and to protect it from overheating. Do not block or cover these
openings.
Never place this product near or over a heat source. Do not place this product in a built-in
installation, such as a bookcase or equipment rack, unless you provide proper ventilation.
Shutting down the appliance does not disconnect it from the power system. To establish
a complete power separation, you must unplug the appliance from the wall outlet.
Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings, as they may touch
dangerous voltage or “short-out” parts, which could result in a fire or electric shock.
To provide added protection for this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left
unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet.
Refer servicing to qualified service personnel in the following situations:
When the power supply cord or plug is damaged
If objects have fallen into the product
If the product has been exposed to rain or water
If the product has been dropped or the enclosure has been damaged

Check the Package Contents
Verify that the package contains the following items:
C200
Ethernet Cable
Power Supply Cable
Check Required Items
Verify that you have the following required items (not included):
One or two hard drives (SATA, 3.5")

Connect the C200
1 Open the C200's back cover, by pressing the two plastic tabs and then pulling backwards.
Two slots are revealed.
2 Insert a SATA hard drive into the left-hand slot, pressing it firmly until it is all the way in.
The drive's metal cover should be facing left.
3 If you have a second hard drive, insert it into the right-hand slot, pressing it firmly until it
is all the way in.

The drive's metal cover should be facing right.
4 Close the C200's back cover, by inserting first the bottom of the cover, pressing the tabs,
and then pushing forwards.
The cover should click into place.
5 Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port, and connect the other end to
your Ethernet LAN switch or router.

6 Connect the provided power supply cable to the power jack, and connect the power
supply to the wall outlet.
7 Press the Power button at the back of the C200.
The C200 will start up, and the Ready/Status LED will flash rapidly in orange and then
green. When the LED turns steady green, the C200 is ready.
Tip
If a DHCP server is not available, then after one minute, the appliance will use the
IP address 192.168.192.5.

Windows Vista/7/8
1 On a computer connected to the same switch as the C200, view the network
neighborhood, by doing one of the following:
In Microsoft Windows 7

or Microsoft Windows 8

, click Start > Computer, then click
Network in the left pane.
The C200 is automatically detected using UPnP and appears in the list of network
places.
In Microsoft Windows Vista
®
, click Start > Network.
The C200 is automatically detected using UPnP and appears in the list of network
places.
2 Double-click on the icon named CTERA C200.
Mac OS
1 On a computer connected to the same switch as the C200, run Safari.
2 Open Bookmarks.
3 In the Collections pane, select Bonjour.
4 In the right pane, expand Webpages.
5 Double-click on the name of your appliance .

Tip
After connecting, you can add a bookmark in your Web browser, for easy access
to the C200 Web interface.

After connecting to the C200 Web interface, your Web browser displays the Welcome to
CTERA page.
1 Choose a user name and password for the administrator.
2 Click Save.
The Setup Wizard opens, displaying the Easy Storage Setup dialog box.

3 Click Next.
The following things happen:
If the Setup Wizard determines that certain storage configuration changes would be
beneficial, the Proposed Actions dialog box appears describing the changes.
To accept the configuration, click Next.
The Account Details dialog box appears.
4 Connect the C200 to the CTERA Portal, by doing the following:
a Select the Yes, I have a CTERA Portal account check box.
b In the Portal Address field, type the DNS name of the CTERA Portal.
c In the User Name field, type the user name for your CTERA Portal account.
d In the Password field, type the password for your CTERA Portal account.

The Backup Encryption dialog box appears.
6 Choose I will provide a secret passphrase. My files cannot be accessed without this
passphrase.
7 Click Next.
The Backup Passphrase dialog box appears.
8 In the Passphrase and Retype passphrase fields, type the passphrase you want to use for
accessing your files.
Warning
Your passphrase is completely confidential, and CTERA does not retain it online or
offline. It is therefore important to keep this passphrase in a safe place, as there is
no way of retrieving it if you lose it. Without this passphrase, you cannot access
your files.

Tip
The following procedure describes how to install CTERA Agent on Microsoft
Windows. For information on installing CTERA Agent on Linux, refer to the CTERA
Agent User Guide.
1 Log in to the C200 Web interface with your administrator user name and password.
2 In the My Computers tab, choose CTERA Agent for Windows, then click Install.
The CTERA Agent installer is downloaded to your computer.
3 Run the installer and follow the instructions that appear.
CTERA Agent is added to the Windows Start menu, and an icon is added to the Windows
taskbar.
4 Click the CTERA Agent tray icon in the notification area of the Windows taskbar.
Tip
In Windows 7, the CTERA Agent tray icon may be hidden. In this case, click on the
white arrow in the notification area of the taskbar to reveal hidden icons:
The Sign In window opens.
5 In the Server field, type the C200's IP address, or type the C200's host name as it appears
in the Web interface's System > Device Details page.
If your appliance is subscribed to the Dynamic DNS service, enter the appliance DNS name
as it appears in the Services page.

6 In the Username and Password fields, type you user name and password for accessing
the C200 Web interface, and click Sign in.
The CTERA Agent connects to the C200. A success message appears, and the CTERA Agent
icon changes to .
7 Right-click on a folder, and click CTERA backup > Add to backup.
The folder is marked with the icon.
8 Click the CTERA Agent tray icon in the notification area of the Windows taskbar.
The CTERA Agent screen appears.
9 Next to the desired backup type, click Backup now.
The CTERA Agent backs up the selected folder to the C200.

In this step, you will back up the contents of the disk to the CTERA Portal.
1 In the Configuration tab's navigation pane, click Cloud Backup > Control Panel.
The Cloud Backup > Control Panel page appears.

A progress bar appears, and the files are backed up to cloud storage.
Tip
The initial backup may take a long time, depending on the amount of data and
Internet connection speeds. Subsequent backups are differential and are
significantly faster.

You can restore files and folders to the C200, from the Cloud Backup Control Panel. This can
be done by administrators only. For additional restore methods and options, refer to the
CTERA C-Series User Guide.
1 In the Configuration tab's navigation pane, click Cloud Backup > Control Panel.
The Cloud Backup > Control Panel page appears.
2 Click Restore Files.
The Restore Files Wizard opens, displaying the Select Files to Restore dialog box.
3 In the Snapshot drop-down list, select the date and time of the snapshot from which you
want to restore files.
4 Specify which files and folders you want to restore, by doing any of the following:
To select individual files and folders:
1 In the left pane, expand the nodes and click on the desired folders.
The folder contents appear in the right pane.
2 Select the check boxes next to the desired folders and files.
To select all files, click Select All.
To un-select all files, click Clear All.

5 If you want to restore files to a location other than the original location:
a Click in the Restore to Folder field. The Folder Browser dialog box appears.
b Select the folder to which you would like to restore the files.
c Click Close.
6 Click Next.
The Restore Files dialog box appears.
7 Specify how the C200 should handle files that exist both on your drive and in the selected
backup, by doing one of the following:
To specify that the files on your drive should be overwritten by the files in the backup,
choose Overwrite the destination file.
To specify that the files on your drive should have the modification date appended to
their name, choose Append the modification date to the name.
8 Click Next.

9 Click Finish.
A progress bar appears, and the files are restored from the selected backup.
