1. Foreword

This manual provides information and procedures to safely operate

and maintain this Wacker model. For your own safety and protection

from injury, carefully read, understand and observe the safety

instructions described in this manual.

Keep this manual or a copy of it with the machine. If you lose this

manual or need an additional copy, please contact Wacker

Corporation. This machine is built with user safety in mind; however,

it can present hazards if improperly operated and serviced. Follow

operating instructions carefully! If you have questions about operating

or servicing this equipment, please contact Wacker Corporation.

2. Safety Information

This manual contains DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTE

callouts which must be followed to reduce the possibility of personal

injury, damage to the equipment, or improper service.

This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential

personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this

symbol to avoid possible injury or death.

DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not

avoided, will result in death or serious injury.

WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not

avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not

avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.

CAUTION: Used without the safety alert symbol, CAUTION indicates

a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in

property damage.

Contains additional information important to a procedure.

Danger of electrocution or severe electrical shock is present in the

trowel motor any time the motor is plugged in. Read all safety

information contained in this section before operating or servicing this

equipment.

No one except a trained electrician should perform repairs to the

motor.

This equipment is built with user safety in mind; however, like any

electrical device it can present serious hazards if improperly operated

and serviced. Follow instructions carefully! Should questions arise

during operation or service of this equipment, contact Wacker

2.1 Operating Safety

Familiarity and proper training are required for the safe operation of

equipment! Equipment operated improperly or by untrained personnel

can be dangerous! Read the operating instructions contained in both

this manual and the engine manual and familiarize yourself with the

location and proper use of all controls. Inexperienced operators should

receive instruction from someone familiar with the equipment before

being allowed to operate the machine.

2.1.1 NEVER allow anyone to operate this equipment without proper

training. People operating this equipment must be familiar with the

risks and hazards associated with it.

2.1.2 NEVER use accessories or attachments that are not recommended by

Wacker. Damage to equipment and injury to the user may result.

2.1.3 NEVER leave machine running unattended.

2.1.4 NEVER operate the machine with the belt guard missing. Exposed

drive belt and pulleys create potentially dangerous hazards that can

cause serious injuries.

2.1.5 NEVER operate this machine in applications for which it is not

intended.

2.1.6 NEVER use the trowel around pop-ups in the concrete that are lower

than the lowest ring on the ring guard.

2.1.7 DO NOT operate the trowel with the Operator Present Lever (safety

interlock) disabled. Serious injury could occur if struck by rotating

trowel due to disabling this interlock.

2.1.8 ALWAYS wear protective clothing appropriate to the job site when

operating equipment.

2.1.9 ALWAYS remain aware of moving parts and keep hands, feet, and

loose clothing away from moving parts of equipment.

2.1.10 ALWAYS read, understand, and follow procedures in Operator's

Manual before attempting to operate equipment.

2.1.11 ALWAYS store equipment properly when it is not being used.

Equipment should be stored in a clean, dry location out of the reach of

children.

2.1.12 ALWAYS operate machine with all safety devices and guards in place

and in working order. DO NOT modify or defeat safety devices. DO

NOT operate machine if any safety devices or guards are missing or

inoperative.

2.1.13 ALWAYS be sure operator is familiar with proper safety precautions

and operation techniques before using machine.

2.2 Operator Safety while using Electrical Equipment

Electrical motors present special hazards during operation! Failure to

follow the safety guidelines described below could result in severe

injury or death.

2.2.1 Never operate trowel with damaged or worn electrical cord! When

using an extension cord be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the

current load.

2.2.2 Prevent body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, metal

railings, radiators and metal ductwork.

2.2.3 Do not operate electrical devices in rain or snow. Keep motor, switch

and electrical cords dry.

2.2.4 Do not use machine in wet locations.

2.2.5 Do not plug in the trowel with the motor cover, switch box, or terminal

box cover removed.

2.2.6 When trowel is used outdoors, use only extension cords marked for

outdoor use.

2.2.7 Use only appropriate extension cords that have grounding-type plugs

and receptacles that accept the machine's plug.

2.2.8 Always keep all electrical cords away from heat, oil and sharp edges

which can damage them. Inspect all electrical cords before each use

and have damaged cords replaced or repaired at an authorized service

center.

2.2.9 To reduce the risk of electric shock, all equipment must be properly

grounded. Connect this trowel to grounded receptacles and extension

cords only. Make sure power supply has either an Earth Leakage

Circuit Breaker (ELCB) or an isolation monitor in the circuit.

2.2.10

NEVER allow children or people other than the operator to handle

power cable and extension cords.

2.2.11 NEVER operate trowel in areas exposed to flammable or explosive

liquids or gases! The motor brushes spark during operating and could

ignite fumes.

2.2.12 NEVER operate machine if switch does not function properly. Have

defective switches replaced by authorized service center.

2.2.13 NEVER yank cord to disconnect it from receptacle.

2.2.14 NEVER allow trowel blades to cut or become entangled in the power

cord.

2.2.15 ALWAYS make sure motor switch is in “STOP” position before

plugging trowel to power supply.

2.2.16 ALWAYS check the power supply before running the trowel. Using the

wrong voltage supply will damage the motor.

2.3 Service Safety

Poorly maintained equipment can become a safety hazard! In order

for the equipment to operate safely and properly over a long period of

time, periodic maintenance and occasional repairs are necessary.

2.3.1 DO NOT attempt to clean or service trowel while it is plugged in to the

power supply. DO NOT wash trowel with electrical covers removed.

DO NOT use a high pressure washer to clean electrical equipment.

2.3.2 DO NOT run motor while it is disconnected from trowel in order to avoid

injury due to exposed rotating parts.

2.3.3 DO NOT remove blades while the machine is hanging overhead.

2.3.4 ALWAYS operate machine with all safety devices and guards in place

and in working order.

2.3.5 ALWAYS keep the work area free of debris in order to reduce the

chance of an accidental fire.

2.3.6 ALWAYS support the machine securely before changing blades.

2.3.7 ALWAYS replace worn or damaged components with spare parts

designed and recommended by Wacker.

2.3.8 ALWAYS keep machine clean and labels legible. Replace all missing

and hard-to-read labels. Labels provide important operating

instructions and warn of dangers and hazards.

2.3.9 ALWAYS handle blades carefully. The blades can develop sharp

edges which can cause serious cuts.

2.3.10 ALWAYS store equipment properly when it is not being used.

Equipment should be stored in a clean, dry location out of the reach of

children.

2.3.11 Keep machine clean for better and safer performance. Make sure

motor cooling fins are kept clean to prevent overheating.

2.3.12 Perform periodic maintenance as recommended in the Operator’s

Manual. Follow lubricating instructions.

2.5 Safety and Information Labels

Wacker machines use international pictorial labels where needed.

These labels are described below:

3.4 Sound and Vibration Data

The required sound specification, Paragraph 1.7.4.f of 89/392/EEC

Machinery Directive, is:

• the sound pressure level at operator’s location (L

) : “A” dB(A)

• the sound pressure level at 7 meters = “B” dB(A)

• the guaranteed sound power level (L

) = “C” dB(A)

These sound values were determined according to ISO 3744 for the

sound power level (L

) and ISO 6081 for the sound pressure level

) with the unit running at high speed.

• The weighted effective acceleration value, determined according to

ISO 8662 Part 1, is: “D” m/s

for units with wing grip handle; “E” m/s

for units with bicycle-style handle.

The sound and vibration specifications were obtained with the unit

operating on wet concrete at nominal engine speed.

4. Operation

4.1 Application

This trowel is a modern, high production machine intended for floating

and finishing freshly poured concrete slabs. The machine's good

balance, adjustable handle, and easily reached controls add to

operator comfort and productivity. An Operator Present Lever provides

added operator safety. Finishing rates will depend on operator skill and

job conditions.

DO NOT use this machine for any application other than troweling

concrete.

4.2 New Machine Set-up

Trowels are shipped from the factory with the handles and blades

removed. Follow instructions on

when setting up new machines or when installing

new handles and blades.

4.3 Installing Blades

There are four types of blades available for the trowels. Float pans are

large "pizza pan" style blades, which hook on over finish or

combination blades and are available for the 30" and 36" machines

only. Float blades are available for all machines and clip on over finish

or combination blades. Both are used in the earliest stages of work,

and are not pitched.

Finish blades, which are supplied with the machine, are used in the

final stages of working, and are progressively pitched to burnish the

concrete.

Combination blades can be used throughout the concrete working

process. They are used in place of float blades or pans and finish

blades.

Note:

Trowel blades must NOT be interchanged, i.e., do NOT put

larger diameter blades on a smaller diameter trowel.

4.3.1 New machines are supplied with finish blades as standard equipment.

Finish blades are flat on both edges and can be installed in either

direction.

When installing combination blades, orient blades as shown (a). This

positions the raised edges of the blade correctly for the clockwise

rotation of the machine.

4.3.2 Secure blades to trowel arms with 1-1/2" screws (b). Dip threads of

screws in grease prior to installation. This will prevent concrete from

cementing the screws in place and will make removal of the blades

easier later on.

4.3.3 Plug the remaining threaded holes in the blade brace with plastic plugs

Do not lift the trowel overhead with a float pan attached, as the pan

could fall off and strike personnel working in the vicinity.

4.4 Installing and Adjusting Handles

Pipe Handle:

On new machines the pipe handle comes assembled with the pitch

control (h).

To install the pipe handle assembly:

4.4.1 Pull the pitch control cable (d) from bottom end of the tube and remove

the nuts from the cable.

4.4.2 Thread the cable through the handle base (a) and over the pulley (c)

as shown.

4.4.3 Attach the pipe handle to the handle base with two M8x16 screws (b).

Secure the screws using Loctite 243 or an equivalent medium-strength

threadlocking compound. Torque the screws to 22 Nm (16 ft.lbs.).

4.4.4 Turn the twist pitch control handle counterclockwise as far as possible.

Connect the cable to the fork (e) as shown and adjust the cable nuts

(f) so the cable is snug and the trowel blades lay flat (0° pitch).

Steering Handle:

4.4.1 Install steering handle (g) to machine as shown. Secure shoulder bolt

(k) using Loctite 243, or equivalent.

4.4.2 Route the power cable and the Operator Present Lever cable through

the inside of the tube welded to the underside of the pipe handle.

4.4.3 Run the Operator Present Lever cable through the handle, in through

hole (j) and out through hole (o).

4.4.4 Mount the Operator Present Lever (n) as shown. Be sure that tabs on

lever dig through paint and into metal of handle, when installing. This

will insure a good electrical ground. Test function of lever prior to using

trowel by starting trowel and disengaging lever—trowel should stop

promptly. See

4.4.5 Position handle by loosening knob (m) and adjusting handle up or

down to suit operator. Tighten knob to secure handle in position.

4.5 Installing Plugs and Power Cords

The trowel comes with a 5-prong plug for connecting to 400V, 3Ø

power.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, only a certified electrician should

install or service power plugs, cords, or electrical boxes.

4.6 Connecting to Power Supply

To reduce the risk of electric shock, all equipment must be properly

grounded. Connect this trowel to grounded receptacles and extension

cords only. Make sure power supply has either an Earth Leakage

Circuit Breaker (ELCB) or an isolaton monitor in the circuit.

4.6.1 Check that the motor On/Off switch on the trowel is in the “O” (stop)

position before connecting a to power source.

4.6.2 Make sure the power supply matches the voltage requirements listed

on motor label. Running the trowel at a low voltage will cause it to run

slow. This will reduce performance and cause the motor to overheat.

4.6.3 This machine must be grounded while in use to protect the operator

from electric shock.
