TheSP4V2OSintroducestheabilitytoloadProgramsandSetupsfromtheKurzweilPC3K,

PC3,andPC3LE.Withinthelimitsmentionedbelow,convertedprogramsandsetupswillsound

thesameontheSP4astheydoonthePC3K,PC3,orPC3LE.(SeeThe“Load(fill)”

Dialogue on page 4forfulldetails.)

Program Conversion Overview

WhenloadingaprogramfromthePC3KorPC3,theprogramwillsoundthesameontheSP4

asidefromthefollowinglimitations.TheSP4has64voicepolyphonyandcannotplayasmany

notesatthesametimecomparedthetothe128voicepolyphonyofthePC3KandPC3.TheSP4

cannotloadsomeeffectsfromthePC3KorPC3iftheyusemorethan10DSPunits.TheSP4does

notloadsamples.IfyouloadaPC3Kprogramthatcontainsusersamples,keyrangesthat

containusersampleswillnotplayproperly.

WhenloadingaprogramfromthePC3LE,theprogramwillsoundthesameontheSP4.When

loadingaprogramfromthePC3LE,theprogram’sarpeggiatorsettingsareloadedtotheSP4.

OnceaPC3LEprogramisloadedtotheSP4,thereisnowaytoenableordisabletheprogram’s

arpeggiatorontheSP4.

Setup Conversion Overview

WhenloadingasetupfromthePC3K,PC3,orPC3LE,thesetupwillsoundthesameontheSP4

asidefromthefollowinglimitations.WhenloadingasetupfromthePC3K,PC3,orPC3LE,only

thefirstfourzonescanbeloaded.TheSP4has64voicepolyphonyandcannotplayasmany

notesatthesametimecomparedthetothe128voicepolyphonyofthePC3KandPC3.Also,

setupfeaturesfromthePC3K,PC3,andPC3LEthatdonotexistintheSP4(suchasarpeggiators

andriffs)willnotbeavailable.Thesoundofconvertedsetupswillalsodependonthesoundof

convertedprogramsthatyoumustloadtoloadasetup.

The Save Button

TheSavebuttonisusedtosaveeditedprogramsandsetupstotheProgrammodeorSetup

modeUser‐bank(seetheSP4Musician’sGuidefordetails).NewintheV2OSistheabilityto

deletesingleUser‐bankprogramsandsetupsbyusingtheSavebutton.

TodeleteaUser‐bankprogramorsetup,firstselecttheprogramorsetupthatyouwishtodelete

intheUser‐bankofProgrammodeorSetupmode.Next,presstheSavebutton,thenpressthe

Chan/Paramupbuttontwice.Thedisplaywillread“Deletexxx?”(xxxwillbetheIDnumberof

theprogramorsetupbeingdeleted).Tofinish,presstheNextbuttonbelowthedisplayandthe

programorsetupwillbedeleted.ThedisplaywillshowtheIDnumberoftheprogramorsetup

thatwasdeletedfollowedby“Empty”.

DeletingUser‐bankprogramsandsetupsisusefulincombinationwiththenew“Load(fill)”

dialogue(seeThe“Load(fill)”Dialogue on page 4fordetails.)Forexample,youcoulddelete

certainUser‐bankprogramsandsetupsthatyounolongerusebyusingtheSavebutton,then

usethe“Load(fill)”dialoguetoloadpreviouslysavedUser‐bankprogramsandsetupsintothe

EmptyUser‐bankIDs.

Group Favorites

Using The Group Select Buttons

InProgrammodeandSetupmode,youcanbrowsethroughgroupsofeightprogramsoreight

setupsbyfirstselectingaBankwiththeBankselectbutton,thenselectingoneoftheGroup

Selectbuttons(thesebuttonsarelocatedtotherightofthedisplay).Afterselectingagroupwith

oneoftheGroupSelectbuttons,oneoftheeightprogramsorsetupsinthegroupcanbe

selectedbypressingoneoftheeightSoundSelectbuttons(locatedtotherightofthedisplay,

belowtheGroupSelectbuttons).InProgrammode,theeightprogramsineachgroupmatchthe

instrumenttypeofthegroupname(Piano,String,Synth,etc.)InSetupmode,theeightsetupsin

eachgroupdonotalwaysmatchtheinstrumenttypeofthegroupname,buttheGroupSelect

buttonscanstillbeusedtobrowsethroughgroupsofeightsetups.

Setting Group Favorites

InProgrammodeandSetupmode,youcansetoneoftheeightprogramsorsetupsineach

groupasafavoriteprogramorsetup.Afavoriteprogramorsetupistheprogramorsetupthat

isautomaticallyselectedwhenagroupisselectedusingoneoftheGroupSelectbuttons.For

example,inProgrammodeyoucouldsettheprogram“10ClassicWurly”asafavoriteprogram

thatwillautomaticallybeselectedwhenyoupresstheE.PianoGroupSelectbuttoninBank1.

Tosetafavoriteprogramorsetupforthecurrentlyselectedgroup,firstpressoneoftheeight

SoundSelectbuttons(totherightofthedisplay)tochoosethefavoriteprogramorsetupfor

thatgroup.NextpresstheGlobalmodeFunctionbuttontoenterGlobalmode,thenpressthe

ProgrammodeFunctionbuttonorSetupmodeFunctionbuttontoreturntoProgrammodeor

Setupmode.FavoriteprogramsandsetupsareautomaticallystoredwhenexitingGlobalmode.

AfterexitingGlobalmode,favoriteprogramsandsetupswillberememberedbytheSP4evenif

itispoweredoff.

Edit Setup Mode

The Zone Specific Parameters

Aux Send Level

TheAuxSendLevelparameterdeterminesthesendlevelfortheauxiliaryeffectsofthe

currentlyselectedZone.Youcanselectanylevelfrom0to127.PressingbothValuebuttons

simultaneouslywillsetthisparameterto20.

NewintheV2OS,youcannowsettheAuxSendLevelparameterto‐1.Asettingof‐1setsthe

AuxSendLeveltousethevalueoriginallyusedbytheprograminProgrammode.Thisisa

convenientwaytosetagoodAuxSendLevelifyouareunsureofwhatleveltoset.

Global Mode

Global Mode Stored Parameters

Globalmodecontainsparametersthatallowyoutocustomizetheoverallperformanceand

MIDIsettingsoftheSP4(seeChapter9inTheSP4Musician’sGuidefordetailsoneachGlobalmode

parameter).SomeGlobalmodeparameters(suchastuning)areresettoadefaultsettingeach

timetheSP4isturnedon.ForotherGlobalmodeparameters,theSP4remembersthesettingyou

chooseandstoresyoursettingsintheSP4.TostoresettingsforGlobalmodeparameters,you

mustexitGlobalmodebypressingoneoftheProgram,Setup,orEditSetupFunctionbuttons.

GlobalmodesettingsaresavedwhenexitingGlobalmode.StoredGlobalmodesettingswillbe

usedbytheSP4thenexttimetheSP4ispoweredon.

ThefollowingGlobalmodeparametersarestoredintheSP4:

The “Load (overwrite)” Dialogue

The“Load(overwrite)”dialogueisnewintheV2OS,andreplacesthe“LoadAll?”dialogue

fromtheV1OS.The“Load(overwrite)”dialoguehasthesamefunctionasthe“LoadAll?”

dialoguefromtheV1OS.

Usethe“Load(overwrite)”dialoguetoloadpreviouslysavedSP4User‐bankprogramsand

setupsfroman.SPXfile.The“Load(overwrite)”dialoguedeletesallUser‐bankprogramsand

setupsintheSP4andreplacesthemwiththeUser‐bankprogramsandsetupsfromthe.SPXfile

youareloading.FilescanbeloadedtotheSP4fromacomputerviaUSB.

Note:The“Load(overwrite)”dialoguedeletesallUser‐bankprogramsandsetupsintheSP4.

Beforeusingthe“Load(overwrite)”dialogue,makesuretosaveabackupcopyofanyUser‐

bankprogramsandsetupsintheSP4thatyouwouldliketosaveusingthe“SaveAll”dialogue

(seepage9‐7oftheSP4Musician’sGuidefordetails).

Tobegintheloadingprocess,firstturnontheSP4andyourcomputer,thenconnectaUSBcable

fromtheSP4’srearpanelUSBporttoaUSBportonyourcomputer.Next,with“Load

(overwrite)”selected,presstheNextValuebuttonbelowthedisplay.Atemporarydrivenamed

“SP4”willmountonthecomputerandtheSP4displaywillshow“Putthefiletobeloadedinto

thetemporarydrive”.PressingPreviouswillcanceltheloadoperationandrecallthe“Load

(overwrite)”dialogue.PressingNextwillloadthefileandthedisplaywillshow“Fileloaded”.

IfnofileisintheSP4temporarydriveduringtheload,thedisplaywillshowthemessage

“Nothingloaded”.Ifanerroroccursduringtheloadoperation,thenthedisplaywillshowthe

errormessage“LoadError”.

IftheSP4isnotconnectedtoacomputer,thedisplaywillshowtheerrormessage“Please

connecttheunittothecomputer”.PressingPreviouswillrecallthe“Load(overwrite)”

dialogue—pressingNextwillretrytoconnect.

The“Load(fill)”dialogueallowsyoutoloadpreviouslysavedSP4User‐bankprogramsand

setupsfroman.SPXfile.TheSP4canalsoloadsavedprogramsand/orsetupsfromtheKurzweil

PC3K,PC3,andPC3LEfrom.P3K,.PC3,and.PLEfilesrespectively.Beforeloadingaprogram

orsetupfroma.P3K,.PC3,or.PLEfile,readthesectionsbelowfordetailsonproperlysaving

andloadingfilesaswellasdetailsonprogramandsetupconversion.

The“Load(fill)”dialogueonlyloadstounusedIDnumbersintheSP4’sUserbanksanddoes

notdeleteanyexistingprogramsorsetupsintheSP4’sUserbanks.FilescanbeloadedtotheSP4

fromacomputerviaUSB.

Tobegintheloadingprocess,firstturnontheSP4andyourcomputer,thenconnectaUSBcable

fromtheSP4’srearpanelUSBporttoaUSBportonyourcomputer.Next,with“Load(fill)”

selected,presstheNextValuebuttonbelowthedisplay.Atemporarydrivenamed“SP4”will

WhenloadingaprogramfromthePC3KorPC3,theprogramwillsoundthesameontheSP4

asidefromthefollowinglimitations.TheSP4has64voicepolyphonyandcannotplayasmany

notesatthesametimecomparedthetothe128voicepolyphonyofthePC3KandPC3.TheSP4

cannotloadsomeeffectsfromthePC3KorPC3iftheyusemorethan10DSPunits.Forexample,

any“doubleleslie”KB3programfromthePC3KorPC3willnotbeabletoloaditsKB3effects

ontheSP4.TheSP4doesnotloadsamples.IfyouloadaPC3Kprogramthatcontainsuser

samples,keyrangesthatcontainusersampleswillnotplayproperly.

parameterthatwasassignedtotheseslidersonthePC3KorPC3byusingtheSP4’sControl

knobandselectingrespectivelythe1TimbreLED,the2ModLED,the4EffectLED,orthe5

ReverbLED.UsetheSP4’sControlSelectbuttontoselecteachLED.Seethetablebelowforthe

ProgrammodecontrolsthatcorrespondbetweenthePC3K/PC3andtheSP4.

PC3LE Program Conversion

WhenloadingaprogramfromthePC3LE,theprogramwillsoundthesameontheSP4.When

loadingaprogramfromthePC3LE,theprogram’sarpeggiatorsettingsareloadedtotheSP4.If

theprogramwassavedonthePC3LEwiththearpeggiatorenabled,thenthearpeggiatorwillbe

enabledforthatprogramontheSP4.IftheprogramwassavedonthePC3LEwiththe

arpeggiatordisabled,thenthearpeggiatorwillbedisabledforthatprogramontheSP4.Oncea

PC3LEprogramisloadedtotheSP4,thereisnowaytoenableordisabletheprogram’s

arpeggiatorontheSP4.Programswitharpeggiatorsenabledwillnotbearpeggiatedifusedin

Setupmode.

PC3LE Program Controller Assignment Conversion

WhenloadingaprogramfromthePC3LEtotheSP4,anyprogramparametersthatwere

assignedtoknobs1through5onthePC3LE(labeledTimbre,Mod,Envelope,Effect,and

Reverb)willbecontrollableontheSP4.OntheSP4,controleachprogramparameterthatwas

assignedtotheseknobsonthePC3LEbyusingtheSP4’sControlknobandselectingrespectively

the1TimbreLED,the2ModLED,the3EnvelopeLED,the4EffectLED,orthe5ReverbLED.

UsetheSP4’sControlSelectbuttontoselecteachLED.SeethetablebelowfortheProgram

Tutorial: Save A Setup From The PC3K, PC3, Or PC3LE To Load To The SP4

ToloadasetupfromthePC3K,PC3,orPC3LE,theobjectfilecontainingthesetupmustalso

containtheprogramsusedinthesetup.ThiscanbedoneonthePC3K,PC3,orPC3LEbysaving

thesetupobjectfilewith“dependentobjects”.Inordertosavesetupobjectfilewith“dependent

objects”,thesetup’sfirstfourzonesmustcontainusereditedprograms.Toensurethatsetups

createdonthePC3K,PC3,orPC3LEcanbeloadedbytheSP4,followthesesteps:

1. OnthePC3K,PC3,orPC3LE,presstheExitbuttonuntilyoureachtheProgrammode

mainpage.FromtheProgrammodemainpage,presstheSetupmodebuttontogotothe

Setupmodemainpage(seebelow),thenselecttheSetupthatyouwishtosave.

2. Withthedesiredsetupselected,presstheEditbuttontotheleftofthedisplay.Thiswill

bringyoutotheSetupMode:CH/PROGpagewhereyoucanviewtheprogramselected

forthecurrentzoneintheProgram field(seebelow).

3. IfyouareusingaPC3KorPC3,seestep3‐(ForPC3K/PC3)below.Ifyouareusinga

PC3LE,seestep3‐(ForPC3LE)below.

3‐(ForPC3K/PC3).OntheSetupMode:CH/PROGpage,thenumberofthecurrentzone

canbeviewedinthetoprightcornerofthedisplay.Changethezonethatyouare

currentlyviewingusingtheChan/Layerbuttonstotheleftofthedisplay.Selectzone1

andlookattheProgramfield.IftheprogramIDnumberandnamehaveanasterisk(star

symbol)attheirleft,thenthezoneusesauserprogramandyoucanskiptostep6.Ifthe

zonedoesnotuseauserprogram,youmustedittheprogramandsaveitasauser

program.Todothis,selecttheProgramfieldontheSetupMode:CH/PROGpageandpress

theEditbuttontotheleftofthedisplay.ThisbringsyoutotheEditProg:KEYMAPpagein

theProgramEditorfortheprogramofthecurrentzone.Presstheleftmoresoftbuttonto

findtheSavesoftbutton,thenpresstheSavesoftbutton(seebelow).Thiswillbringyou

totheEditProg:Savepage.Continuetostep4.

3‐(ForPC3LE).OntheSetupMode:CH/PROGpage,thenumberofthecurrentzonecanbe

viewedinthetoprightcornerofthedisplay.Changethezonethatyouarecurrently

viewingusingtheChan/Zonebuttonstotheleftofthedisplay.Selectzone1andlookat

theProgramfield.IftheprogramIDnumberandnamehaveanasterisk(starsymbol)at

theirleft,thenthezoneusesauserprogramandyoucanskiptostep6.Ifthezonedoes

notuseauserprogram,youmustedittheprogramandsaveitasauserprogram.Todo

this,selecttheProgramfieldontheSetupMode:CH/PROGpageandpresstheEditbutton

totheleftofthedisplay.ThisbringsyoutotheEditProg:PARAMETERSpageinthe

ProgramEditorfortheprogramofthecurrentzone.PresstheSavebuttontotherightof

thedisplay,thiswillbringyoutotheEditProg:Savepage.

4. OntheEditProg:Savepage(seebelow),anunuseduserIDnumberisautomatically

selectedtosavetheprogram.(YoucanchooseadifferentIDnumberifdesired.)Pressthe

SavesoftbuttontosavetheprogramattheselectedIDnumberasausereditedprogram.

Thedisplaywillquicklyshowthemessage“Savesuccessful”,thenyouwillbereturnedto

theEditProg:KEYMAPpage(ortheEditProg:PARAMETERSpageonthePC3LE).

The LCD Display Appears Blank

IftheSP4’sLCDdisplayappearsblankorhardtoreadwhentheunitispoweredon,theLCD

contrastmayneedtobeadjusted.ThereisasmallcontrastknobfortheLCDdisplayonthefront

paneloftheSP4,abovetheChan/Parambuttons.Thecontrastknobisnotlabeled.Slowlyturn

thecontrastknobuntiltheLCDbecomesreadable.ThecontrastknobissensitiveandtheLCD

mayonlybereadablewiththecontrastknobsetwithinacertainrange.
