For protection of the circuitry against telephone line induced transients,
connect to a goodearth ground.
(A cold water pipe or electrical box may be used in some locations.)
Additional transient protection can be provided by a No. 255 Lightning Protector
which connects directly
acrossthe telephone line and to ground.
A No. 663 used for line seizure also provides transient protection for the No. 612
by isolating its circuitry
completely from the telephone line. In this case, a
No.
255 may be installed across the telephone line
entering the

Nos.

and
612.

NOTES:
1.
To
Test The Dialer
A. Slide the switch marked “DIALER” (above terminal
10) to the lower position. THIS
CONNECTS
INTERNAL SPEAKER AND DISCON

PHONE
LINE.
IMPORTANT:
THIS SWITCH MUST REMAIN IN
THE
LOWER POSITION FOR THE
ENTIRE
DURATION OF THE TEST. DO NOT
RETURN THE SWITCH TO THE UPPER POSITION UNTIL AFTER THE DIALER HAS
RESET
AND THE PILOT LAMP
HAS
GONE
OUT,
OR
YOU
WILL TRANSMIT ACTUAL ALARM MESSAGES.
8.
Test
either channel (Fire
or
Burglary)
by
holding appropriate “TEST” switch down for approximately
one
second.
C.
When test is completed and tape automatically resets, the dialer will stop and the pilot light will go off.
IMPORTANT:
RETURN “DIALER” SWITCH TO UPPER
POSITION
WHEN
TESTING
IS
COMPLETED. IF THE SWITCH IS LEFT
IN
THE
LOWER POSITION, THE DIALER
WILL
BE
DtSCONNECTEO FROM
THE
PHONE LINE AND SUBSEQUENT ALARM
MESSAGES WILL NOT BE SENT.
FOR
NORMAL OPERATION,
THE
SWITCH
MARKED
“DIALER”
MUST
ALWAYS
BE
IN
THE
UPPER
POSITION.
2.
Fire Channel will overr’de Burglary Channel in the event bath are tripped during alarm condition.
3.
Dialer automatically resets after each alarm
or
abort condition.
INSTALLATION OF
THE TAPE
CARTRIDGE
Outside
The tape cartridge
is
of special endless
-
loop design. This means that the tape always travels
from the inside of the tape reel (bottom
of
the cartridge) to the outside of the tape reel (top
of the cartridge). Slack in the exposed
loop
can be automatically taken up simply by pulling
the tape in its normal direction, always starting at the bottom of the cartridge. This is impor
-
tant
to
know since there may be slack in the tape loop
when
you
first install the cartridge.

CAREFULLY REMOVE THE TAPE FROM THE PLASTIC BAG. DO NOT EXTEND THE
LOOP. Position the tape cartridge
on
the
deck, below the motor. The side
of
the reel with
the lock ring should be facing
up.
By rotating the cartridge, position it
so
that the locating
pin under the reel fits into the locating hole. Now, by moving the cartridge slightly left or
right, look for the screw hole
on
the deck through the center hole
of
the cartridge and fasten
it
in place using the screw supplied

posts and the magnetic head,
as

Gentiy lift the pressure roller, place the tape over the capstan

half-way down the shaft
and return
the
roller to hold the tape against the capstan. The tape should now

against the posts and magnetic head.

NOTE:
If
the loop
of
the tape has too much slack and is not touching both
posts
and the magnetic head, tighten the tape in the following way.
Lift the pressure roller slightly and pull the tape out of the cartridge at point
“A“
in
the direction of the arrows. This will automatically shorten
the
loop.
Keep pulling the tape (always from the bottom of the cartridge) until the tape loop fits properly. Then, gently return the pressure
roller.
THE
DIALER
SHOULD
ALWAYS
BE
TESTED
AFTER
INSTALLING
A
NEW
TAPE
CARTRIDGE.
TO
THE INSTALLER
Regular maintenance and inspection
(at
least annually) by the installer and frequent testing by the
user are vital
to
continuous satisfactory operation of any alarm system.
The installer should
assume the responsibility of developing and offering a regular maintenance
program
to
the user
as
well as acquainting the user with the proper operation and limitations of the
alarm system and its component parts. Recommendations must be included for
a
specific program of
frequent testinq (at least weekly) to insure the system’s proper operation
at
all
times.
In
the
Event
of
Telephone Problems
In the event
of
telephone operational problems, disconnect the tape dialer by removing the plug from the phone jack. We recommend that the
installer demonstrate disconnecting the phones on installation of the system. Never disconnect
the
phone
connection
inside
the
No.

or
at
the No.
663
Line Seizure unit. Doing
so
will result in the
loss
of the phone lines. If the regular phone works correctly after the tape dialer has
been disconnected from the phone lines, the dialer has
a
problem and
should
be returned for repair. If upon disconnection of the dialer, there
is still a problem on the line, notify the telephone company that they have a problem and request prompt repair service. The user may not under
any circumstances (in or
out
of
warranty) attempt any service or repairs
on
the system. It must be returned
to
the factory or an authorized ser
-
vice agency
for
all repairs.
NOTE: When the system is communicating and a No.
663
is
used, the phone line may be seized and the user phones may be disconnected.
Even if a
No.
663
is
not used, there will be an interference with the phone fine during communication. Under normal circumstances, the phone
line disruption should only be for
1
-
2
minutes. However,line disruption could
last
up to
15
minutes
if
trouble exists.
If
this occurs regularly, con
-
tact your installer.
