Safety instructions
The safety features of AEG electrical
appliances comply with accepted tech-
nical standards and the German Appli-
ance Safety Law. Nevertheless, as a
manufacturer we consider it our obli-
gation to make you aware of the fol-
lowing safety information.
General safety
The appliance may only be connected
to a power supply with the same volt-
age as that specified on the type plate
(H)!
Never use the flex to pull the plug out
of the socket but pull the actual plug.
If the mains cord of this appliance is
damaged, it has to be replaced by the
manufacturer or its customer service or
a trained electrician to avoid risks.
Never use the kettle if it has been
dropped or has evidently been dam-
aged.
Repairs to the kettle may only be car-
ried out by qualified personnel. As a
result of incorrect repairs considerable
dangers may result. Please contact the
AEG customer service department or
an authorised dealer in the event of
repairs being necessary.
Always pull out the plug,
before cleaning and attending to the
kettle,
and after each time it is used,
and for faults during operation.
Safety of children
Only use the express kettle when
supervised.
Supervise children particularly care-
fully!
Packaging material, e.g. plastic bags,
should not be accessible to children.
g
8
Points to be remembered when
operating the express kettle
Before starting the appliance ensure
that the mains cord and plug are dry.
Never use the kettle with wet hands.
Never use the appliance outdoors.
Whilst using the express kettle, high
temperatures are reached which can
cause scalding if the kettle is not han-
dled carefully. Therefore only hold the
appliance by the handle (C) provided.
Do not use the kettle unsupervised. Do
not place or use the kettle on hot sur-
faces or near naked flames.
Attention: If the kettle is overfilled
there is a risk that the boiling water
may spray out. Therefore never fill the
kettle above the maximum marking.
Only use your kettle for heating water!
Never put foodstuffs or foodstuff
additives into the kettle. Never heat
milk or stock on the kettle! Do not
place any objects in the kettle!
Never use the appliance with the lid (B)
open as otherwise the automatic boil-
dry safety cut-out cannot work.
Do not move the appliance whilst it is
on.
Never immerse the appliance in water!
Protect the appliance and cord from
heat and wetness.
If the appliance is used for any other
purpose or is incorrectly used, the
manufacturer adopts no liability for
any damages which may result.
Always empty the kettle completely. Do
not leave residual water in the appli-
ance for a long period.
Do not switch on the appliance with-
out water.
Only use the kettle with the associated
base.
2 Disposal
Dispose of the packaging!
Do not simply throw away the packag-
ing. Please observe the following
instructions:
Packaging can be put to the old paper
collection.
Polyethylene plastic bags (PE) can be
given to the PE collection points for
recycling. Padding of expanded poly-
styrene (PS) is CFC free and can be
given to the relevant collection points
(recycling depot). Please contact your
recycling depot through your munici-
pal authorities.
Dispose of your old appliance!
When you eventually stop using your
appliance please bring it to the nearest
recycling centre or to your dealer who
will take it back for a small fee.
Using your kettle
Before using your new kettle you
should wipe it inside and outside with
a damp cloth due to hygienic reasons.
Initial use
0 Place the base unit (G) on a firm sur-
face.
0 Plug the mains plug into a wall socket.
3
If the mains cord is longer than neces-
sary it can be wound up at the bottom
of the base unit (G).
0 Press button (L) down to open
the lid (B).
0 Fill with at least sufficient water to
make it visible on the water level indi-
cator (D), but not higher than the max.
mark.
0 Close the lid (B) until it engages. For
this purpose press button (L) up fully.
The automatic boil-dry safety cut-out
can only function reliably if this is
done.
0 Place the kettle onto the base in any
position you wish.
g
9
0 Press the ON/OFF switch (E) down, the
pilot lights (F) lights up and the kettle
starts to heat up.
3
The ON/OFF switch (E) only catches
when the kettle is on the base unit (G).
3
Do not use the water from the first
boiling cycle to prepare food.
The automatic switch off
The kettle will switch itself off auto-
matically and the pilot light will go out
when the water has boiled or the kettle
is removed from the base.
If you want to stop the heating process
before the kettle automatically
switches off, simply press the ON/OFF
switch (E) up or lift up the jug from the
base. If you want to reheat water
which has already been heated, press
the ON/OFF switch (E) down again.
When the water is boiling the kettle
switches itself off automatically. If the
kettle is only filled with a little water, it
takes longer to switch-off.
Safety system
All AEG kettles are equipped with a
boil-dry safety cut-out. This feature
protects the appliance from overheat-
ing when started without water or
from boiling until it is empty if used
with the lid open. If the appliance is
accidently switched on without water,
it is automatically protected against
overheating. The heating process is
automatically interrupted. Before
using the kettle again let it cool down
for 5-10 minutes.
For operating reasons condensation
can run onto the edge of the base from
the outlet openings underneath on the
handle. This is due to technical reasons
and does not affect the safety of the
appliance.
Cleaning and care
1
Always disconnect the kettle from the
mains supply before cleaning.
1
Never clean the kettle and base unit
under running water or immerse it in
washing-up water.
0 Occasionally rinse out the kettle with
clean water.
0 Clean the outside of the appliance only
using a damp cloth. Do not use any
caustic or abrasive cleansing agents.
0 Withdraw strainer insert (K) upwards
for cleaning. The strainer insert must
be pressed down until it locks when
inserting.
0 The kettle is made of stainless steel. If,
however, spots of rust appear, these are
only deposits adhering to the surface.
They should be removed with a stain-
less steel cleaning agent.
Descaling
Lime scale deposits on the bottom of
the kettle result in loss of energy and
can affect the service life of the appli-
ance. The appliance switches off before
boiling if the layer of scale is too thick.
It is then very difficult to remove.
The appliance should be descaled regu-
larly depending on the level of the
water hardness. Use a standard des-
caler following the directions; prefera-
bly choose an environmentally friendly,
descaling agent suitable for stainless
steel according to the instructions
from the manufacturer.
0 First fill in water, then a standard des-
caling preparation which is not too
strong.
1
Do not boil the solution as it could
foam over.
0 After descaling, rinse the kettle out
thoroughly with clean water. Never
pour descaling agents into an enamel
sink and do not reuse them.
g
10
What to do if ...
the appliance switches off before
boiling?
The base of the kettle is too thickly
scaled. Treat with standard commer-
cial descaling agent suitable for
stainless steel. Note the directions
for use from the manufacturer.
the appliance does not switch off?
Close lid until it locks.
Insert the strainer correctly.
the kettle pours badly?
Descale the strainer insert.
the appliance cannot be switched on?
after operating with very little or no
water, the appliance has not yet
cooled sufficiently.
Wait a short time before trying
again.
