2. Safety
2.1 Intended use
This mill is a household device and is only intended for grinding
peppercorns or coarse salt. It should not be used in tropical
climates. The mill is not intended for business or commercial use.
Use the mill solely for private purposes; any other use is
deemed improper. Only use the accessories provided by the
manufacturer.

Personal Safety
This product is not intended for use by persons (including
children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities
or lacking experience and knowledge unless supervised or
instructed in safe product use by a person responsible for their
safety. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not
play with the product. Children must not play with the device.
Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by
children unless they are supervised. Small parts can be lethal if
swallowed. If a small part is swallowed, medical help should be
sought immediately. Keep the packaging film away from

DANGER! There is a risk of suffocation!
Batteries
If the batteries have leaked, remove them to avoid damaging
the device. You can remove battery acid that has leaked using
a dry absorbent cloth. Wear appropriate gloves while doing
this! Avoid skin contact. If the acid contacts your skin or eyes,
rinse the area immediately with a lot of water and see a
doctor.
Always take care to install your batteries correctly observing
the “+” and “-” marks on the battery and the device.
Always replace the whole set of batteries at one time, taking
care not to mix old and new ones, or batteries of different
types.
Remove discharged batteries from equipment promptly to
avoid possible damage from leakage.
Never dispose of batteries in fire, except under conditions of
controlled incineration. (Failure to observe this precaution may
result in an explosion.)
Never attempt to recharge primary batteries as this may cause
leakage, fire, or explosion.

Never short circuit batteries as this may lead to high
temperatures, leakage, or explosion.
Never heat batteries in order to revive them.
Never attempt to disassemble or open batteries as this can
lead to electrolyte burns.
Keep batteries out of the reach of children, especially those
batteries fitting within the limits of the truncated cylinder as
defined in Figure 1.

Immediately seek medical attention if a cell or battery has
been swallowed. Also, contact your local poison control
center.
Fire hazard
Make sure there are no naked flames (for example, burning
candles) placed on or near the mill.

Risk of injury
Never open the housing of the mill. There is a risk of injury if
the device is assembled incorrectly. Opening the housing will
void your guarantee.
The mill must not be used if it is damaged. Risk of injury!
Never immerse the mill in water or any other liquid. If liquid
enters into the mill, remove the batteries immediately and
contact the service department (see “Warranty” section).
The mill must not be exposed to direct sources of heat (for
example, heaters), direct sunlight or strong artificial light.
Make sure that the mill is not exposed to excessive shocks or
vibrations.
No foreign bodies should penetrate into the device.
The mill must not come into contact with hot surfaces.
The mill must be filled with peppercorns and coarse salt only.
Keep the mill clean.

3. Package Contents
Unpack the mill and all of the accessories. Remove all packaging materials and check all of the
components for completeness and signs of damage. If any parts are missing or damaged, please
contact the manufacturer.

6. Before Initial Use
Remove the SMH 6 A2 mill and all accessories from the packaging and check the completeness of
the delivery. Keep the packaging material away from children and dispose of it in an
environmentally friendly manner.
7. Initial Use
7.1 Inserting the batteries/filling the mill
Hold the container (6) firmly and turn the top section (1) anti-clockwise until the arrow on the
top section (1) is lined up with the icon on the container (6).
Remove the top section (1) from the container (6).
Remove the motor (3) from the container (6).
Insert the batteries with the correct polarity (note the + and - signs). The polarity is marked on
the batteries and on the battery compartment.
Fill the container (6) with peppercorns or coarse salt. Fill the container (6) up no higher than
the padlock icons and .
Place the motor (3) onto the container (6). Make sure that the contacts (4) of the motor (3) are
positioned on the contacts (5) of the container (6).
Place the top section (1) onto the container (6).
Hold the container (6) firmly and turn the top section (1) clockwise until the arrow on the top
section (1) is lined up with the icon on the container (6).
7.2 Using the mill
Remove the protective cap (7) on the bottom of the container (6).
Keep the button (2) pressed to activate the mill. The light (8) lights up during operation.
Replace the protective cap (7) onto the bottom of the container (6) after use.
7.3 Changing the grind setting
Remove the protective cap (7) on the bottom of the container (6).
Turn the adjusting screw (9) anti-clockwise slightly for a coarser grind setting.
Turn the adjusting screw (9) clockwise slightly for a finer grind setting.
Replace the protective cap (7) onto the bottom of the container (6).
Hard peppercorns can block the grinding mechanism of the grinder. Grains of salt can
also block the grinding mechanism of the grinder due to moisture absorption or their
varying hardness. In this case, turn the grinder upside down and press the button (2) to
release the pepper or salt from the grinder. If necessary, shake the grinder gently to
further support the process.

8. Cleaning
WARNING of damage to property
Do not use any scratching or abrasive cleaning agents or abrasive objects (such as a
metal scourer) for cleaning purposes. Otherwise the mill may be damaged.
Do not clean the mill and its accessories in the dishwasher, as this may cause
irreparable damage.
Never immerse the mill in water or any other liquid. No liquid may enter the mill.
Clean the housing of the mill with a soft, damp cloth, using a mild detergent for stubborn stains.
Dry all of the parts thoroughly.
It is not necessary to clean the grinder and the container (6).
9. Storing the Device When Not in Use
If the mill is not going to be used for a longer period of time, store it in a safe, clean and dry place.
Remove the batteries.
Empty the container (6).
Before storing the mill, clean it thoroughly as described in the previous section.
10. Troubleshooting
If the mill does not work as usual, use the following instructions to try and solve the problem. If
working through the following tips does not eliminate the fault, please contact our hotline (see the
“Warranty” section).
10.1 The mill is not working
The batteries are dead. Please replace the batteries with new ones of the same type. Please
refer to the instructions in the ‘Inserting the batteries/filling the mill’ section.

11. Environmental and waste disposal information
Disposal of packaging
Sort the packaging before you dispose of it. Dispose of paperboard and cardboard
with the recycled paper service and wrappings with appropriate collection service.

Disposing of Used Devices
Do not dispose of used devices together with household waste! If at any time in the
future you should not use this device anymore, please dispose of it in compliance
with the applicable regulation in your state or country. This ensures professional

13. Warranty
3 years limited warranty
What does this warranty cover?
The warranty covers:
Damage, breakage or inoperability due to defect.
Damage not caused by normal wear and tear or failure to follow the safety and maintenance
instructions provided in the user manual.
What is not covered by the warranty?
The warranty does not cover damage caused by:
Normal wear and tear of the product, including fragile parts (such as switches, glass, etc.);
Improper use or transport;
Disregarding safety and maintenance instructions;
Accidents or acts of nature (e.g. lightning, fire, water, etc.);
Tampering with the product (such as removing cover, unscrewing screws etc.)
Consequential and incidental damages are also not covered under this warranty. However, some
states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this
limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.
What is the period of coverage and warranty resolution?
The warranty is for 3 years from the date of purchase. At our discretion, product will either be
refunded or replaced.
