Before use

• Please read the information below with care. This gives important guidance on the

safety, use and maintenance of the appliance. Keep this booklet in a safe place and,

if appropriate, hand it on to the next owner.

• Fakir appliances comply with recognized technological standards and the current

safety regulations for electrical appliances.

• These appliances fulfil the requirements of EU Guidelines 89/336/EEC (Electro-

magnetic compatibility) and 73/23/EEC (Low voltage guideline). The appliance is mar-

ked with the CE symbol on the rating plate.

• Fakir reserves the right to modify designs and specifications without notice.

Important information

• Do not switch on the appliance if the housing exhibits any evidence of damage (cracks

/ fractures), if the connecting lead is defective, or if an internal defect is suspected (e.g.

if the appliance has been dropped).

• Appliance only to be connected to voltage indicated on the rating plate.

• You have acquired an appliance of exceptionally strong suction power. As fuse pro-

tection a min. 16 ampere fuse has to be used.

• The socket must abe equipped with an efficient earth.

• Fakir will not accept any liability for damage or injury if the appliance is used other than

for its intended purpose or is improperly operated or inexpertly repaired and maintai-

ned.

• Use only genuine Fakir parts and accessories.

• Please only use clear water without any additives.

• Do not let children use electrical appliances unsupervised.

• Repairs should be carried out by an authorized Fakir service center (see enclosed list

of adresses). Incorrect repairs may the user to electrical danger.

Safety Precautions

• Do not pull out the plug from power supply socket by pulling on the connecting lead.

• Do not pull the connecting lead over sharp edges or allow it to become jammed.

• The supply cable has to be replaced by an autorized Fakir After-Sales-Service only.

• Before any maintenance operation and after use, switch off the appliance and pull out

the mains plug. Allow the machine to cool down.

• Never leave the steam cleaner or steam iron unattended if it is switched on. If you

need to interrupt your work, please remove the plug form the mains socket.

• Before opening the tank switch off the appliance, bring pressure to zero and wait until

the appliance is cooled. Open the safety pressure valve carefully and before removing

it completely allow any residual steam which might have built up, to escape.

• The appliance may only be used indoors or in covered rooms.

• Do not store the appliarice in the open air.

• Do not exposure the machine to weather, humidity nor excessive heat.

• Clean the appliance only with a dry or slightly moist cloth.

Do not allow any of the electrical components (switches, plug, socket, electronics, etc.)

to come into contact with water.

Professional ironing is the result of the combined action of three different elements:

• The steam jet

• The heated top with suction/blowing action

• A professional steam-generating iron

The combined action of the steam jet and of the suction/blowing ironing board allows for

the best results in shorter time. The steam jet will help you to rapidly eliminate false crea-

ses, to purify and renovate your fabrics, removing unpleasant odours.

The heated surface keeps the ironing top dry, even when a lot of steam is emitted.

The suction holds the fabric firmly on to the ironing surface and pulls the steam through

it; resulting in clean and dry garments that require no further airing and can be worn

straight away.

The blowing function enables you to work on an air pillow, making it easier to iron deli-

cate fabrics or difficult areas (trouser creases, pockets, seams, areas difficult to reach),

thus avoiding the formation of false creases and the flattening of the seams.

There are many optional accessories to make your ironing easier and more effective.

TO IRON WITH STEAM THE THERMOSTAT OF THE IRON MUST ALWAYS BE SET

ON COTTON / LINEN. OTHERWISE THE IRON IS TOO COLD AND THE STEAM

COMING OUT OF THE SOLEPLATE COULD TURN INTO WATER.

FABRICS THAT DO NOT WITHSTAND HIGH TEMPERATURES MUST NOT BE IRO-

NED WITH STEAM. IN THESE CASES IT IS BEST TO TEST IRON ON A HIDDEN

AREA, EVEN IF YOU ARE USING THE TEFLON SOLEPLATE COVER. IF IN DOUBT

PLACE A WET CLOTH OVER WOOL, SILK OR VERY DELICATE FABRICS.

WITH THE BLOWING (AIR PILLOW) FUNCTION YOU CAN STEAM IRON DELICATE

FABRICS. HOLD THE IRON JUST ABOVE THE GARMENT AND BE CAREFUL NOT

TO TOUCH THE GARMENT DIRECTLY WITH THE IRON.

Preparing the ironing board

The ironing board can be put away with the legs folded

under the ironing surface or upright with the legs folded,

and the tank at the bottom. The ironing board stands by

itself in this position.

The ironing board can be opened from the upright positi

-

on, too:

Hold the ironing board tight with one hand and open its

legs until you hear a click. This means that the lever is in

the locking position. The ironing board can now be easily

placed in the upright position ready for use.

If the floor is slippery be careful that the legs do not slide

when opening or closing the ironing board.

Press on the lever A and raise the ironing surface to the

desired height.

Place the iron on flat surface B of the tank near the safety

cap.

Place the hot iron on this surface only: its thermo-resistant

rubber studs make it heat-resistant.

Placing the hot iron on other surfaces could cause dama-

ges.

Insert the plug of the iron or of the steam jet into the socket

in the lower side of the tank C. Make sure that on inserting

the plug the safety flap of the socket snaps into place. This

stops the plug being pulled out of the socket unintentio-

nally. Plug the power cord into the wall socket only after fil-

ling the tank with water.

Before refolding the ironing board pull the plug of the power cord out of the socket. Then

remove the steam cord. Be careful when touching the hot parts ! Use the iron protec-

tion shell when the iron is hot.

Wind the power cord around the cord-winder D. Turn the ironing board sideways with the

tank at the bottom. Push the height adjustment lever A and refold the legs. Push the legs

tightly against the ironing board until they are retained by the leg clip.

Always pull the power cord out of the main socket. To fill the

tank use clean water only.

Never put any substance in the water, such as perfumes or any

other chemical or cleaning products. Never use the laundry water.

It always contains residues that could stain the tank, the iron and

the garments. Never use water intended for car batteries, which

could contain acids.

The boiler, where the steam is produced, is made from strong and long-lasting stainless

steel. You can use tap water if you live in a soft water area. If you live in a hard water area

we recommend using only boiled or demineralised water. If you only use demineralised

water There will be no formation of sediments, thus prolonging the life of the appliance.

The tank can be descaled at a Service Centre, though this is not covered by the guaran-

tee. Your local water supplier can give you information concerning the scale content of

your water.

Unscrew the safety cap of the tank. Ensure

that the tank is cool. Putting water into a hot

tank could produce instant steam, which may

cause serious burns.

To fill the tank use the anti-drip filling bottle,

a funnel or a suitable jug.

Never put the appliance under the tap.

Wipe off any water that has spilled over. Do

not try to fill more water by shaking the tank;

this will reduce the volume of the tank and the-

refore the first steam emission.

If you have only a few garments to iron use less water in the boiler. In this way you will

save time and energy.

Filling the appliance with water

Plug the appliance to the mains socket.

Turn the master switch on E to heat the various parts of

the appliance. The light H turns on.

The light on the iron turns on F. When the chosen tempe-

rature is reached, the light goes off. While ironing the light

goes on and off automatically.

The ironing surface reaches the working temperature in a

few minutes. A thermostat sets the temperature automati-

cally.

As the water is heated pressure is generated within the

boiler. When the working pressure is reached, the steam-

ready light turns on G.

Do not press the steam button before the steam-ready

light turns on. While ironing, the emission of steam and

during the breaks this light cycles on and off automatical-

ly. This is normal and you do not have to wait for the light

to recommence ironing.

When the pressure within the boiler reaches the correct

level, the power to the heating element is automatically

interrupted.

A safety thermostat will also interrupt the current going to

the heating element if the boiler temperature is too high.

Another safety feature is the valve in the safety cap of the

tank, which will expel steam safely if the boiler pressure

becomes too high.

Always screw this cap firmly in place but do not over tighten as this may damage the rub-

ber washer.

When you use the iron for the first time the heat may

cause substances used during production to come out as

a light smoke. This is harmless and will only happen the

first time it is used.

Before using the iron for the first time, and after a long

pause, it can be 'cleaned'. Set the iron thermostat on

'NYLON', then wait till the steam-ready light G goes on.

Hold the Iron over a sink and press the steam button I

repeatedly until water comes out through the steam holes

in the iron soleplate. Keep the iron horizontal so water

does not run along the soleplate.

Immediately wipe off any water that accidentally spills on

the soleplate.

Water stains can be removed with a sponge. In specialist hardware shops you can also

find cleaning materials for the aluminum soleplate. Do not use abrasive substances to

clean the iron.

After cleaning, the iron soleplate is wet inside. Set the iron to the highest temperature for

some minutes to let the water evaporate.

At first direct the steam jets on a cloth or into the sink to remove any traces of conden-

sation. This is necessary every time you begin ironing and after a long pause, as there

can be condensation in the steam hose that could turn into water and stain the garments

to be ironed.

The iron is ready when, after setting the desired temperature, the control light on the

handle goes off.

The iron soleplate heats up rapidly and cools down slowly. Therefore we recommend that

you start with fabrics that need lower temperatures and to go on to garments requiring

higher temperatures.

Pressing the steam button I on the handle of the iron will

give you steam. Simultaneously this button also automati-

cally activates the suction or blowing function.

Use the switch K on the steam generator to select the suc-

tion (air down) or blowing (air up) functions.

Suction is used for garments that are easily spread flat on

the ironing surface. Multi-layer garments or items that,

because of their cut or their fabric will not lie smoothly,

should be ironed by blowing. Trousers pockets, particular-

ly with waist tucks, are easily ironed smooth without the

seams showing through.

After steam ironing using the blowing function, it is advisable to start the suction function

for a short while to remove humidity and heat from the ironing board cover. To do this you

will need to steam the iron in the air or over a sink.

When you release the steam button the suction or blowing stops too.

The steam button also has a continuous steam mode.

With light pressure holding the button down, steam and

suction or blowing functions are activated. Releasing the

button deactivates these functions.

To use the continuous steam mode push the steam button

further down, the button is locked in the continuous mode.

Use a light touch to unlock the button and the functions

are deactivated.

You can steam iron and refresh hanging garments too.

Hold the iron vertically; with delicate, synthetic or velvet

fabrics, it is better to keep a distance of some centimetres

from the garment.

Cotton and linen garments can be ironed placing the iron

directly on to the fabrics.

Ironing on the air pillow, pullovers and wool garments

swell. We recommend that you do not place the iron direc-

tly on to the material. This way, it is possible to iron even

very delicate fibres.

Steam ironing

Leave the appliance on for 5 - 10 minutes so that the heating system of the ironing board

dries out any residual humidity. Switch of the master switch E, and disconnect the appli-

ance by removing the plug from the mains socket.

Rewind the cable. Let the ironing board cool off some minutes more, and fit the iron pro-

tection shell. Turn back the temperature of the iron to the minimum setting.

Close the appliance as previously described.

The water still in the tank can be left to be used next time you iron.

MAINTENANCE AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Change the ironing board cover only when the board is cool. Underneath some parts can

be hot. The cover is machine-washable at 60° C. You can buy spare covers where the

appliance has been purchased.

Store the appliance in dry rooms. For safety reasons the appliance must only be used in

dry rooms.

Before cleaning the appliance, disconnect the plug. Clean the appliance with a wet cloth.

Keep the iron soleplate clean. If you use a Teflon soleplate cover, after cooling down, dry

the soleplate cover inside and outside with a cloth. Do not let the Teflon soleplate cover

cool and dry on the iron.

The steam generating unit can be separated from the appliance. Disconnect the plug

from the mains supply. Unscrew the two plastic-headed screws placed on the lower side

of the appliance.

After having inserted the part, screw the safety again.

If the steam generator should need maintenance, it can be easily removed making the

transportation easier. This feature also enables you to rinse out the boiler regularly to

remove scale deposits. In particularly hard water areas this operation should be repea-

ted more frequently.. Fill the tank to half, shake it gently from side to side then turn it over

and tip the water into a bowl or sink. The small whitish flakes coming out are scale.

Repeat the operation until only clear water comes out.

Do not use any detergents or descalers. The tank cannot be completely emptied and the

residues of chemical substances could damage the mechanical parts and your garments.
