Ingeneral,awirelessheartratecheststrapisthemostaccurateandconvenientmethodofdetectingandmonitoringaheartratesignalandis
aconsiderableupgradefromthetouchtypeheartratesensors.Occasionally,certainfactorscannegativelyaffecttheaccuratetransmissionof
theheartratesignal.WiFinetworks,cordlesstelephonesandlargeelectricalappliancesmaydegradeorcorruptthesignalsothattherate
appearserraticorimpossiblyhigh.Theonlyremedyforsuchasymptomistoisolatetheunitfrompotentialdisturbances.Additionally,a
person’sbodychemistryorlackofperspirationcanpreventthecheststrapfromprovidingastrongoraccurateheartratesignal

ratewirelessly,four(4)conditionsmustbepresent:
Acompatibleheartratecheststraptransmitter(notincluded)mustbefunctioningandworn.Forproperfunctionofthecheststrap,
pleaserefertothemanufacturer’sinstructions.Non‐codedtransmitterssuchasthePolarmodelT31andT34areexamplesof
wirelesscheststrapsknowntobecompatiblewiththisunit.

CalculatedMaximumHeartRate&TargetTrainingZone
Yourtargetheartratedependsprimarilyuponyourage.Itisimportanttoworkwithina
safeandproductivezone,foriftheexerciseintensityistoolowortoohigh,onlymodest
gainswillbemadeinstrengthandcardio‐vascularfitness.Aworkoutataverylowintensity
willnotoffermaximumbenefits.Conversely,iftheworkoutintensityistoohigh,injuryor
fatiguemayslowtheprogressionofyourexercisegoalsasthebodyattemptstorecover.
Note: Itismosteffectivetotrainataheartratebetween60%and85%ofyour
maximumheartrate.Maximumheartrateiscalculatedasapercentage
ofyourmaximumheartrate(estimatedas220BPMminusyourage).
Tocalculateyourmaximumheartrateandfindtheappropriatetargettrainingzone,usethe
followingformulas.Thefollowingestimationwouldberelevantfora35year‐olduser:
220–35=185BPM (220–Age=CalculatedMaximumHeartRateinBeats‐per‐minute/BPM)
0.60x185=111BPM (60%of185BPM[CalculatedMaximumHeartRate]=111BPM)
0.85x185=157BPM (85%of185BPM[CalculatedMaximumHeartRate]=157BPM)
