7.2 Stopping instructions
1. Release the throttle control and allow the engine to cool down by idling.
2. Press and hold the on/off switch in the OFF (0) position until the unit comes to a complete
stop (Fig. 1).
8 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
8.1 Holding the unit
Warning: Always wear eye, hearing, foot and body protection to reduce the
risk of injury when operating this unit.
Before operating the unit, stand in the operating position (fig. 3). Check for the following:
The operator is wearing eye protection and proper clothing.
Both hands are holding the handle bar firmly.
The edger wheel is adjusted for proper cut depth as shown in Fig. 4 and edger positions
are as shown in Fig. 3.
8.2 Adjusting edger cutting depth
Gently pull the depth adjustment lever away from the wheel bracket (Fig. 4).
To raise the cutting blade, move the lever toward the front of the wheel bracket (Fig. 4).
Lowering the wheel decreases the cutting depth.
To lower the cutting blade, move the lever toward the rear of the wheel bracket. Raising
the wheel increases the cutting depth.
8.3 Tips for best edging results
After starting the engine, keep the unit tilted back so the blade does not touch the ground.
Move the unit to the desired location and slowly lower the blade into the ground.
Do not force the edger. Edge the first time at a lesser depth, then do the area again with a
deeper setting.
Walk the edger at a slow, even pace.
Check the blade condition (Fig. 5). As it wears it becomes smaller, thus reducing the
cutting depth performance. Replace the blade when it no longer makes contact with the
ground.
9 OIL AND FUEL INFORMATION
Warning: Lack of lubrication voids engine warranty. Gasoline and oil must
be mixed at 40:1.
The engine must use the mixture oil, the mixture ratio is 40:1.
The gasoline should use the 90 octane or 93 octane unleaded gasoline.
The oil should be two-stroke FC special mixing oil.
Fill 585 ml gasoline (position 1) in the pot, and add two-stroke oil up to the 600 ml mark,
then shake it well.
Don’t add too much fuel to the fuel tank, the fuel capacity should be 80 % of the fuel tank,
there should be some space left for gasoline expansion.
POWXG30010 EN
Copyright © 2017 VARO P a g e | 8 www.varo.com
The engine should be provided with fresh gasoline. Storage time of gasoline should not be
more than 30 days.
Note: Fuel which has been stored more than 30 days after mixing will result
in a carburettor blockage and the machine cannot be used normally.
In the surrounding area of fuelling gasoline or fuel storage position any fire is strictly
forbidden.
The engine should stop for 10 to 15 minutes after refuelling, then it may restart working.
Poor quality gasoline and/or oil will damage the engine, oil seal, oil line and oil tank.
Move the unit at least 10 m from the fuelling source and site before starting the engine.
1. Gasoline
2. Position 1 - 585 ml
3. Oil
4. Fuel mixing canister (empty bottle)
Warning: gasoline is extremely flammable. Ignited vapours may explode.
Always stop the engine and allow it to cool before filling the fuel tank. Do
not smoke while filling the tank. Keep sparks and open flames at a distance
from the area.
Warning: add fuel in a clean, well ventilated outdoor area. Wipe up any
spilled fuel immediately. Avoid creating a source of ignition for spilled fuel.
Do not start the engine until fuel vapours have completely dissipated.
9.1 Using fuel additives
The use of fuel additives will inhibit corrosion and minimize the formation of gum deposits.
Using a fuel additive can keep fuel from forming harmful deposits in the carburettor for up to
six months. Add 23 ml of fuel additive per gallon of fuel according to the instructions on the
fuel additive container. NEVER add fuel additives directly to the unit’s fuel tank.
Warning: remove fuel cap slowly to avoid injury from fuel spray. Never
operate the unit without the fuel cap securely in place.
POWXG30010 EN
Copyright © 2017 VARO P a g e | 9 www.varo.com
Warning: when the engine stops, do not touch the muffler or spark plug
immediately in order to avoid any skin from burning.
9.2 Recommended petrol
Some standard petrols are enriched with oxygen-containing compounds such as alcohol or
ether to comply with regulations on clean air. The motor is designed to work well on any car
petrol, including these enriched petrols, on the condition that the above mixing ratios are
observed!
10 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Warning: to avoid serious personal injury, always turn the unit off and allow
it to fully cool down before cleaning or maintaining it.
