55oF.because itwillnot runfrequently enough to maintainpropertemperaturein

To enhance its appearance, maintainefficient performanceand for properfunctionof

theice maker,your refdgerator should be level Using a carpenter's level, check your

refrigerator to make sureit is levelfront to back and sidetoside. Thefront wheels were

adjusted at the factory so the cabinet would be level. However,jarring in transit,or

standingtherefrigerator onanunevenfloormay causethedoorstoshiftoutofalignment.

If levelingis necessary, remove the base grilleand adjust thewheelwith a screwdriver

as shown.

To turn off your refrigerator, set the refrigerator control on OFF.

At times,the front surfaces ofyour refrigeratorcabinet may bewarm to thetouch. This

isa normalfunctionofyour refrigerator, Thisfeature preventsmoisturefrom condensing

on the outside of your refrigerator during humid weather. This condition may be

noticeable when you first start your refrigerator, during hot weather, and during

excessive or lengthy door openings.

Forefficientenergy use:

2, Checkdoor seals occasionally for leakage. Check at various places: top, bottom,

and sides,

3, Check the temperature; avoid unnecessary cold settings.

7,Clean refrigerator condenser coils at least twice a year.

To maintainthe naturalflavor,moisture, and nutritionoffresh foods,we recommendthat

all dishes, trays, and containers of food be covered.

a shelf, lift the rear straight up a fraction of an

inchand pull straight out. Tolock into another

position,dtt the shelf with the front up. Insert

hooks intodesired frame openings and let the shelf settleintoplace. Makesureit is

securely lockedat therear, Some models haveslide out shelves that ere designed to

contain spills. Height adjustments aremadethesame way, being careful that the

movable shelf remains fully in the frame.

Slide-out shelvesmoveon plasticrails and may be easily pulled forward for access to

foods placedtoward therear.Toremovea slide-outshelf,pull ittoward you untilitstops,

then lift the front edge slightly and pull completely out.

The Temp Control Drawer provides short term storage of fresh meats without freezing.

The shelf with theTemp Control Drawercan be placed in one of three positions. When

adjusting this shelf,remove thedrawer and look at the back wall of thedrawer. It is

necessaryfor the air inlettube at theback ofthe refrigeratorto line up atthe top, middle

or bottom ofthe air slots in the backof the drawer. Setthe temperature control to the

coldest position when adjustingthe Temp Control Drawer. Once adjustment hasbeen

made, replacethe drawer and set the control to thedesired setting.

Thecontrol knob is located near the refrigerator control. Asthe knobisturned from the

"Cool"settingtowardthe "Cold"setting,thetemperaturewillget colder. Selectthe"Cool"

settingfor storage of luncheon meat and cheese. Select the"Cold" setting for storage

offresh meats.

AI}meats or poultry should bestored in theiroriginalstore wrappings or in p}asticbags

toreduce theevaporationofmoisturefrom them.Keep your TempControl Drawer

tightly closed at all times to obtain best results.

Theseshelves are easy to remove andmovetoa_il'_ 1

differentlocation. To remove,pullthe shelfforward. To

replace,lineupthetopoftheshelfwith theslideson the

door and slide back into place.

Some models have abottle retainer located on the lower refrigerator door shelf. It

preventstall bottles from fattingout when the door is opened or closed. To attach the

retainer on the shelffront,have thesmooth side facingforward, align the retainer with

the front tfpof the shelffrontand snapinto position.The bott(eretainer canbe adjusted

to any position on theshelf by sliding sideways.

All models havea Shelf Tender located on one of the refrigerator door shelves.It

provides upright storage for packages or bottles. The ShelfTender can be adjusted to

any positionon the shelf by sliding sideways.

To maintainthe natural flavor,moisture,and nutritionof frozen foods, and to prevent

freezer burn, we recommend that all foodsbe wrapped or sealed properly.

Toreplace afreezer shelf:(1) tilttheshelfandinsert right

rodendsintoupper portionof oblong holesinthe freezer

sidewall;and (2) lowertheleftsideofthe shelfand insertin oblong holes intheleft side

of the freezer walL. Make sure theshelfis securebefore loading.

The slide-outBulk Storagedrawer canbe removed bypulling it out

asfar asitwill go,then liftingthefront edgeand pullingstraightout.

)f you noticethat thedrawer is not sliding smoothly or easily,

lubricate the slide rails with petroleum jelly. Apply lubrication to

pointsasshown. Also, make surethe bottomofthefreezer isclean

where the slide rails make contact.

To replace the basket,reverse the above procedure. To adjust the shallowand Pizza

baskets,removethebasketasdirected previouslyandplaceoneofthe bottomtwo heavy

wiresin the track and replace it.

The water inlettubing assembly requiredto complete thewater connectionto thewater

valveis locatedinthe crisperdrawer in abag. Connectthe icemakertothe water supply

as instructedintheseparateinstructions,furnishedwiththe refrigerator.

The automatic ice maker is designed to furnish a continual supply of ice cubes. The

amount of iceproduced depends on the temperature in the freezer section of your

refrigerator. The colderthefreezer section,the moreice isproduced. Wesuggest you

startwith your refrigerator andfreezer controls attheir midsettings. Inmostcases,this

issatisfactory. If the door to therefrigerator or freezer is opened frequently or

temperatures in the kitchen are abnormally high,a colder setting may be necessary.

After your model has been installedand thewater supply connected to the ice maker,

it may take 8 to12 hoursbeforetheice maker furnishesanyusable icecubes. Thefirst

one or two harvests will probably contain undersized and irregular cubesbecause of

air in the supply line. Theinitial harvestmay also contain impuritiesfrom the newwater

supply piping. Therefore, el) cubes fromthefirst twoor threeharvests should be

discarded.

Under certain rare circumstances,icecubes may be discolored,usuallyappearing with

a green-bluishhue.Thecauseof thisunusualdiscolorationisapparentlya combination

of factors such as certain characteristics of localwaters,household plumbing and the

accumulationofcopper saltsin an inactivewater supply linewhich feeds theice maker.

Continued consumptionof such discoloredicecubes may be injuriousto health. If such

disco(orationisobserved,discard theice cubes and contactthedealer from whom the

ice maker or refrigeratorwas purchased.

(ca cubes that have been in the ice storage for a considerable lengthoftime may pick

upoff-flavortaste,stick together, andgradually becomesmaller. We suggestthatthese

cubes bethrown away. We alsosuggest using an openbox of baking soda in the

refrigerator for food odor absorption.

Certainsoundsmayaccompanythevariouscycles of theice maker. Examples are: (1)

themotormayhavea slighthum, (2)thecubeswillrattleastheyfall intoanemptystorage

bin, and (3) the water valve may click or "buzz" occasionally. All of these sounds are

normal and should be ignored.

Note:Whendispensingicecubes, it isimportantthat you use only theicesuppliedby

thisicemaker, fcefrom anyothersourcecouldcause anicejam. ifthishappens, remove

and discard all ice from the storage bin and any icelodged in the ice chute.

AUTOMATIC

ICE MAKER

Yourautomaticice makerislocated near thetop of // SENSOR

the freezer compartment behind the IceAccess ARM

Panel. To gain access to the ice making mecha- _-,,..-- /_.'_ o_F

nism, liftthe Ice Access Panel.

Theice makerhas a wiresensorarm that iscon-

nected to a shut-off switch,This arm stops the

mechanism when the ice cubestorage bin is ruff,

andrestarts itafter severalicecubes havebeen used. You can usethe stoparmto stop

allproduction oficeat anytime,Allyou needto do israisethe armintothe OFFposition.

The ice maker should be turned off (armup) when:

1. Icestorage bin is to be removed for extended period of time.

2. Refrigeratoris notto be usedfor a considerabletime,suchasvacations. Also,turn

off thewater supply to theice maker in this instance, if practical.

3, Watersupply isto beshut-offfor several hours.

FILL

Waterfillstheemptycube mold(Fig,1) whentheTU,_e

freezer compartment has cooledto freezing tem-

perature. Coldair isforced directlyoverthe mold,

frozensothenewsupplyisreadywhenneeded.

As soon as ice is removed from thebin, the

sensor arm signalsthat more isneeded. The

icemakerresumesoperationbyejectingready-

and-waiting frozen cubes.

Lift the front of the Automatic Dispenser bin and puff it straight out. Wash the bin

occasionally in mild soap and lukewarm water. To replace the bin, push it all the way

back untilthe bottomofthe bin isbehind the raisededge atthefront ofthe shelf it rests

upon. Makesurethe tabs,atthe backofthe bin,that turn thespiralauger are positioned

between the prongs from theauger motor.

Water/Ice Control

For dispensing icecubes,the slidecontrolmust be

movedto the "Cube" position(center). Fordispensing _E_.

Water from the dispenser is chJl,ed. For celder watert I IllI

Dispensing

To filla glass,positiontheglassagainstthetop portion

oftheaotuatorpadandpress.Holdtheglasshighinthe _=_'_

dispenser opening to reducethe ice falling outside _,

Some crushed icemay bedispensedeven though you

selectedCUBE. Thishappensoccasionallywhena few

cubes accidentally get channeled in the crusher.

Whenchanging somecrushed

icema_

sizedcubesor ice chipsare in the storagebin.

Theremay bea delaywhenyouswitchfromcubestocrushedice.It takesafewseconds

for thecubesto be channeled in the crusher.Crushed ice pieceswill vary in sizeand

shape.

Iceshouldnot bedispensed directlyintothinglasses,fine chinaordelicate crystal--they

can crack or chip from the combined pressure of your hand pressingthem against the

actuator pad and Ice dropping into thecontainer.

Ice otherthanthatproduced by your ice maker should not be added to the ice storage

bin - it may not crush and/or dispense properly.

For large quantitiesof cubed ice, remove the ice directly from the storage bin. Do not

operate the ice dispenser continuously for more than five minutes.

If theicedispenser is notusedfrequently,icecubes may clump together and may need

to bebroken apart or discarded.

Releasethe pressureon the padand holdthe container in positionmomentarily tocatch

the last piecesof iceor dropsofwater. The icedelivery door willremainopen forashort

time. When itcloses you may hear a closing sound.

Do notdiscard water intothe grille atthe bottomofthe fountain. This is a spillarea, not

a drain. Normalspills will be evaporated in therecessed area belowthe spillshelf grille.

Excessive spillsshould beremovedwith an absorbent sponge or cloth. Thespill area

should be cleaned occasionally.

The pushbutton light switch is located behindthe panel at thetop and on the right side

of your fountain. For replacement,use a 120v, 7 watt bulb.

A child proof lock is located behind the panel at the top and on the left side of the

dispenser. This toggle switch will turn your ice and water dispensers on or off.

It isrecommendedthat you disconnect the powercord before cleaning.

Your refrigerator can beroiled out for cleaning. Turn thelevelers, ateachfront comer

ofthe cabinet,counterclockwise until theyturnfree}y. Thenpullthe cabinetstraight

out. Note: ]f youhavean AutomaticIce Makerinstal}ed,we recommend that you turn

off thewater supplybefore movingthe cabinet.

After cleaning behindyourrefrigerator, pushitback andturn the levelersclockwise until

they touch the floor and lock the cabinet in place.

Usemild soapand water,DONOT usescouringpowders, automobilewax,or furniture

polish. Rinse withclear water.

Door gaskets may becleaned with soap and water,a baking soda solution,or mild

scouring powder.

Clean bothcompartmentsandinnerdoor panelswithmild soapandwater.Do not use

an abrasivepowder, solvent, polish cleaner or undiluted detergent.

When cleaning a glass cantilever shelf, you can remove it and submerge the entire

assemblyinwarmwater. Neverusehotwater.Always allowglasstowarm up toroom

temperaturebefore immersing inwarm water.

Defrostwaterdrainsintoashallowpanbeneaththe ,_.,'_'_1_ _

cabinet and evaporates.During periodsof high _{_l-

humidity,water could remain inthe pan. This pan

should be cleaned oncea month with a strong

solutionofsoap and water. It islocated behindthe

To replacethebasegrille,lineup the springclips

on thebasegrillewiththe squareopeningsin the

cabinetandgentlytapeachend in untilthegrille

locksinplace.

To allowyour refrigeratorto run moreeffi-

ciently, the basegrilleandthe areaaround

thecondensershould becleaned at least(=l

twicea year. Theareaaroundthecondens-

ercanbe cleanedwhenevertherefrigerator

is movedduring routine house-cleaning. .-

Unplug the refrigerator and move it away

from the wall. Vacuum the condenser and ,_F.os_.

TOclean the base grille, grasp both ends

and pullstraightout. Aftercleaning,replace

thebasegrille.

It isrecommendedthatyoudisconnectthepowercordbeforereplacinglightbulbs.

To replacetheupper refrigeratorlightbulb:(1)graspthelightshieldneartheendsand

pulloutuntiltheshieldpullsfreeoftheretainerlugs;(2) unscrewbulbandreplacewith

a40 wattappliancebulb(60wattappliancebulbforModelJRSD2250 andJRSD2460);

and(3)hookthelightshieldovertheupperretainerlugsandpressinatthebottomuntil

theshieldsnaps in place.

To replace the lower refrigerator light bulb on somemodels: (1) removetheTemp

ControlDrawer;(2)usingtwohands, spreadthetopadbottomofthelightshieldvertically

away from each other and pullto the front to remove;(3) unscrewthebulb and replace

it with a 40 watt showcase bulb; (4) usingtwo hands, spreadthetop and bottom of the

lightshieldand pushit intoplaceengaging tabs inslots; and (5)replacetheTemp Control

Drawer.

Toreplacethe freezer lightbulb: (1) removetheicecubedispenser bin and the top

freezer shelf; (2) unhookthe tabs on the top of the light shield by pressing in withyour

thumb on thecentertop ofthe lightshield; (3) pivottheshielddown; (4) unscrewthe bulb

when itiscool and replace itwith a standard 40 watt appliance bulb; (5) pivot the shield

up into place,snapping thetabs into the slots: (6) replacethefreezer shelf and the ice

cube dispenser bin.

if you will be gone for a month or less, leave the control knob at its usual setting.

During longer absences, (a) remove all food, (b) disconnect from electrical outlet, (c)

cleantherefrigeratorthoroughly, including defrostpan, (d) leavedoorsopen to prevent

odor formation, and e) turnoff water supply to ice maker, if practical.

Problems? Saveyourselfthe nuisanceof unnecessaryservicecalls;check these first:

Refrigerator runs too frequently.

• Frequentrunningprovidesmorestabletemperatures.

• Too manydoor openings.

• Prolongeddoor openings.
