1.0) TYPICAL SUSPENSION METHODS
Various means of suspending the heater can be used. See the following drawings for typical examples.
1. Use only noncombustible materials for suspending hangers and brackets.
2. A minimum No. 2 chain with a working load limit of 115 lbs. is required.
3. Turnbuckles are recommended to use with chains to allow leveling of the heater. All S” hooks and eye bolts
must be manually crimped closed by the installer.
4. When using rigid means for heater suspension (rod, flat bar, etc.) provide sufficient lengths or swing joints to
compensate for expansion. See Figures b and c.
5. Heaters subject to vibration must be provided with vibration isolating hangers.
6. Heaters must not be supported by gas or electric supply lines and must be suspended from a permanent
structure with adequate load capacity.
Space-Ray recommends that the body sections be suspended using chains with turnbuckles. This will allow slight
adjustments after assembly and heater expansion/ contraction during operation.
The table Below shows the individual heater weights and the number of suspension points.

4.0) GENERAL HEATER ASSEMBLY REQUIREMENTS ALL MODELS
During field assembly of the heater, the recommended procedure is as follows:
a) Before hanging heater sections, first determine the actual layout of the system. See section 4.0 for complete
heater dimensions. Consideration must also be taken for flue pipe, fresh air ducting, gas piping, clearances to
combustibles, etc. before hanging heater. Typical suspension methods are shown in Section 1.
b) In all configurations, the burner box MUST be connected directly to the 6-hole flange of the 10 ft. ATC steel

NOTES:
1. In all configurations, the control unit must be connected directly to the ATC steel body section having a 6 hole
flange.
IMPORTANT THE NXU HAS FIXED HANGING POINT LOCATIONS. THE FOLLOWING POINTS MUST BE OBSERVED.
The recommended method for assembling the NXU model heaters is to assemble the heater at ground level and
raise it into the final hanging position. These instructions are based on that assembly method. If the heater is going
to be assembled in the hanging position please read the full instructions for the specific model thoroughly before
starting the installation.
1. The hanger bracket without rollers must be positioned at the U Bend end of the heater and secured with U
Bolts. The rest of the tube system is intended to be able move freely during expansion and contraction.

A. ASSEMBLY OF THE FIRST TUBE SECTION NXU50 & 85 (20FT) Models
1. The recommended method for assembling the NXU model heaters is to assemble the heater at ground level
and raise it into the final hanging position. These instructions are based on that assembly method. If the heater
is assembled in the hanging position please read these instructions thoroughly before starting the installation.
2. Position the tubes as shown below on the sawhorses to begin assembly.
3. Attach the assembly alignment template (furnished 1 per order PN 44519000) in the following sequence. The
purpose of the assembly template is to prevent rotation of the tubes during assembly and control the
alignment of critical dimensions.
1. Place the first hanger bracket (with rollers) into the slots of the assembly alignment template
2. Check that the mounting holes in the tube flanges are aligned as shown in the illustration and that the tube
seam is facing downward. Failure to assemble the tube with seam facing down will void the
manufacturer’s warranty.
3. Align the template to the mounting holes in the flanges.
4. Using four ¼ - 20 screws and locknuts attach the assembly alignment template to the flanges.
Space the hanger brackets approximately to the dimensions shown in the figures on the following page. Note: The
distances are measured from leading edge of each hanger bracket. The reflector support channels will determine the
precise spacing between brackets.
Form #43343340
-14- May 2021 A
4. Space the hanger brackets according to the dimensions shown in the figures below for the first tube section.
Note: The distances are measured from the leading edge of each hanger bracket.
a) Place tubes over the hanger brackets with the welded seam facing down toward the ground. Failure to
assemble the tube with seam facing down will void the manufacturer’s warranty.
b) Secure the tubes to each support/hanger bracket using U-bolt clamps, tube retainer straps and 5/16-18
nuts provided. See Details A and B for the required methods for tightening each U-bolt and tube retainer
strap.
B. ADDING TURBULATORS AND U BEND NXU50 & 85 (20FT) Models
1. Assemble the turbulators (packaged with the burner control) together by interlocking the slotted end portions.
1a. Slide (4) each of these into the return leg (exhaust tube) section until they are flush with the tube end.
1b. Slide (3) each of these into the hot leg (Burner tube) section until they are flush with the tube end.
Form #43343340
May 2021 A -15-
2. Slide the U-bend onto ends of each tube, mark the tubes 3” from the end and push on the U-bend until the
marks are inside the sleeves.
3. Secure the U Bend to the tubes using (2) self-drill screws.
C. ADDING REFLECTOR CHANNELS NXU50 & 85 (20FT) Models
1. Starting at the end closest to the assembly alignment fixture and tube flanges. Rest the reflector channel on
the second hanger and insert the threaded stud through the first support bracket as shown in step 1. Secure
the threaded stud with a ¼-20 nut.
2. Position the second reflector channel and insert the threaded stud through the first reflector channel and the
support bracket as shown in step 2. Secure the threaded stud with a ¼-20 nut.
3. Use a ¼-20 screw and nut to secure the end of the second reflector channel to the last support bracket.
4. From the end of the heater check that the reflector channels are in-line with each other make any necessary
adjustments and tighten the nuts securely.

1. Use the figure below to identify the reflectors before installing them on the hanger brackets.
2. Position the starting 91” Inner reflector panels over the hanger brackets and inside the reflector channel rail.
Use the assembly alignment template to set the spacing at the end of the heater.
3. The reflector panels are asymmetrical and must be positioned as shown in the figure on the next page. Arrange
the reflector panels to the dimensions shown.
Form #43343340
May 2021 A -17-
4. Secure inner reflector panels to the support brackets using the locking clamps. It is important to only secure
the reflectors in the locations shown below. The first and second inner reflectors must be able to move freely at
the overlap.
a) From the underside of the hanger bracket drive in the sheet metal screw until the tip is just through the
reflector panel.
b) Position the reflector locking clamp PN 42769020 over the screw and continue to drive the screw until the
reflector is secured in place.
c) Repeat this at each hanger bracket specified in figure below.
5. Place the reflector closure plate flush with the end of the inner asymmetrical reflector panels as shown below.
Secure this using one (2) speed clips (supplied in fastener kits) each side.
6. Place the 33” long overlap reflector panel on top of the lower asymmetrical reflector panels as shown below.
a) The overlap reflector should be placed at distances shown from leading edge of last support/hanger
bracket to end of overlap reflector.
b) Attach the lower reflector and overlap reflector using locking clamps shown below.
