workmanship under normal use and service for a period of Two (2) Years from the date of purchase.

Subject to the terms and conditions noted in this Limited Warranty, we shall, at our option, repair or

replace at no cost to the original purchaser any part covered by this Limited Warranty during the applicable

warranty period.

The limited warranty does not cover the Normal Wear Parts. Depending upon the type of your product,

the Normal Wear Parts are defined as cutting parts/attachments including blades. These parts are

warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship as delivered with the product.

This Murray, Inc. Two (2) Year Limited Warranty is your exclusive remedy; however, this warranty is

void or does not apply to any unit that has been tampered with, altered, misused, abused or used for

rental or other commercial and/or professional (non-homeowner and income-producing) uses. Your

warranty does not cover minor mechanical adjustments which are not due to any defect in material or

BEFORE YOU USE THIS UNIT. The instructions are written for

a person with some mechanical ability. Like most service books,

not all the steps are described. Steps on how to loosen or tighten

fasteners are steps anyone can follow with some mechanical

ability.

Know your product: If you understand the unit and how the

unit operates, you will get the best performance. As you read

this manual, compare the illustrations to the unit. Learn the

location and the function of the controls. To help prevent an

accident, follow the operating instructions and the safety rules.

Keep this manual for future reference.

IMPORTANT: Many units are not assembled and are sold in

cartons. It is the responsibility of the operator to make sure the

assembly instructions in this manual are exactly followed. On

assembled units, it is the operators responsibility to make sure

the unit is correctly assembled. The operator must carefully

check the unit according to the instructions in this manual before

it is first used.

The responsibility of the operator is to follow the

 Carefully read and follow all safety rules. The rules for safe

operation and the other instructions in this manual must be

reviewed with any operator of this unit.

 Before using the product for the first time, follow all the

preparation instructions.

 Make sure the operator of the unit understands and knows

how to correctly use all the controls.

 Correctly maintain the unit.

 Service the unit only with authorized or approved

replacement parts.

CAUTION: The use of any trimmer may be hazardous. If the blade

touches your body, it will cut you. When it hits solid foreign objects

such as rocks or bits of metal, it may fling them to bystanders or the

operator.

OPERATORS INFORMATION

WARNING:

When using electric gardening appliances,

basic safety precautions should always be

followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric

shock and personal injury.

Careless or improper use may cause

serious or even fatal injury.

INSTRUCTIONS.

•This is a double-insulated appliance. When

servicing use only identical replacement

parts.

•This appliance has a polarized plug (one

blade is wider than the other) and will

require the use of a polarized extension

cord. The appliance plug will fit into a

polarized extension cord only one way. If the

plug does not fit fully into the extension cord,

reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit,

obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A

polarized extension cord will require the use

of a polarized wall outlet.

•This plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet

only one way. If the plug does not fit fully

into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If the

plug still does not fit, contact a qualified

electrician to install the proper wall outlet.

•Do not change the equipment plug,

extension cord receptacle, or extension cord

plug in any way.

•Avoid Dangerous Environment  Dont use

appliances in damp or wet locations.

•Dont use in rain or snow.

•Keep Children Away  All visitors should be

kept 50 feet away from work area.

•Dress Properly  Do not wear loose clothing

or jewelry. They can be caught in moving

parts. Use of rubber gloves and substantial

footwear is recommended when working

outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to

contain long hair. Wear heavy, long pants,

boots, gloves and a long sleeve shirt during

operation to reduce the risk of injury that

may be caused by flying debris.

•Use Safety Glasses  Always use face or

dust mask if operation is dusty.

•Use Right Appliance  Do not use appliance

for any job except that for which it is

intended.

•Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)

protection should be provided on the

circuit(s) or outlet(s) to be used for the

gardening appliance. Receptacles are

available having built-in GFCI protection and

may be used for this measure of safety

•Warning  To reduce the risk of electric

shock, use only with an extension cord

intended for outdoor use, such as an

extension cord of cord type SW-A, SOW-A,

STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-

A. or SJTOW-A.

•Types SW, SOW, STW, STOW, SJW,

SJOW, SJTW, and SJTOW are alternative

designations to Types SW-A, SOW-A, STW-

A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-A,

and SJTOW-A, respectfully.

•Extension Cord  Make sure your extension

cord is in good condition. When using an

extension cord, be sure to use one heavy

enough to carry the current your product will

draw. An undersized extension cord will

cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss

of power and overheating.

•See the following Table for the correct size

to use depending on cord length and

nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use

the next heavier gage. The smaller the gage

number, the heavier the cord.

Minimum Wire Size For Extension Cords

•To reduce the risk of disconnection of

appliance cord from the extension cord

during operating. Secure extension cord as

show in the Operating section of this

manual.

•Avoid Unintentional Starting  Dont carry

plugged-in appliance with finger on switch.

Be sure switch is off when plugging in.

•Dont Abuse Cord  Never carry appliance

by cord or yank it to disconnect from

receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and

sharp edges.

•Dont grasp the exposed cutting blades or

cutting edges when picking up or holding the

appliance.

•Dont Force Appliance  It will do the job

better and with less likelihood of a risk of

injury at the rate for which it was designed.

•Dont Overreach  Keep proper footing and

balance at all times.

•Stay Alert  Watch what you are doing. Use

common sense. Do not operate appliance

when you are tired.

•Disconnect the appliance from the power

supply when not in use, before servicing,

when changing accessories.

•Store Idle Appliances Indoors  When not in

use, appliances should be stored indoors in

dry, and high or locked-up place  out of

reach of children.

•Maintain Appliance With Care  Keep

cutting edge sharp and clean for best

performance and to reduce the risk of injury.

Follow instructions for lubricating and

changing accessories. Inspect appliance

cord periodically, and if damaged, have it

repaired by an authorized service facility.

Inspect extension cords periodically and

replace if damaged. Keep handles dry,

clean, and free from oil and grease.

•Check Damaged Parts  Before further use

of the appliance, a guard or other part that is

damaged should be carefully checked to

determine that it will operate properly and

perform its intended function. Check for

alignment of moving parts, binding of

moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting,

and any other condition that may affect its

operation. A guard or other part that is

damaged should be properly repaired or

replaced.

•Keep guards in place and in working order.

•Keep blades sharp.

•Keep hands and feet away from cutting

area.

•When servicing use only identical

replacement parts authorized by Murray Inc.

Use of any other parts or accessories could

lead to injury to user, or damage to the unit.

•Do not attempt any maintenance, repair or

replacement work not described in your

operators manual.

•Clear the area to be cut before each use.

Remove all objects such as rocks, broken

glass, nails, wire, or string which can be

thrown or become entangled in the cutting

attachment. Clear the area of children,

bystanders, and pets.

•Use the unit only in daylight or good artificial

light.

•Operate the unit only outdoors in a

ventilated area.

•Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, hands and

all parts of body away from openings and

moving parts.

•If you strike or become entangled with a

foreign object, stop and unplug the unit

immediately and check for damage. Do not

operate before repairing damage. Do not

operate with loose or damaged parts.

•Always stop the unit when operation is

delayed or when walking from one work

location to another.

•Always turn off the unit and make sure the

cutting parts have stopped before putting

the unit down.

•Stop and unplug the unit for maintenance,

repair, or for changing the cutting

attachment or other attachments.

•Inspect all extension cords and the unit

power connection periodically. Replace the

cords if any defects or damage appear.

•Keep unit clean of vegetation and other

materials. They may become lodged

between the cutting attachment and shield.

•Clean after each use. Allow the unit to cool

before storing or transporting.

•Never douse or squirt the unit with water or

any other liquid. Keep handles dry, clean

and free from debris.

•Danger -- Risk of Cut -- Keep Hands Away

from Blades -- Keep both hands on handles

when power is on.

•Do not attempt to remove cut material or

hold material to be cut when blades are

moving. Make sure unit is unplugged and

the switch is off when clearing jammed

material from blades. Do not grasp the

exposed cutting blades or cutting edges

when picking up or holding the unit. Caution

-- blades coast after turn off.

•If blade jams on any electrical cord or line,

This hedge trimmer is fully-assembled. You only

need to remove blade sheath for operating.

OPERATING

WARNING: When electrically

connected, the hedge trimmer will start if

you grip both handles. CONNECT THE UNIT

ONLY WHEN YOU ARE READY TO TRIM A

HEDGE.

Before starting unit, check the following:

1. Operator wearing eye and ear protection

and proper clothing.

2. The operating area is clear of people, pets

and foreign objects.

3. The cutting blade is not in contact with

anything.

To use the hedge trimmer

1. Plug in the unit and secure the extension

cord.

2. With the blade directed away and

extension cord behind the trimmer, hold

the unit by both hands. (See Figure)

3. Start the unit with the blade away from

the hedge to be trimmed.

4. First grip the front handle with one

hand and then grip the rear handle with

the other hand.

5. Move the unit to the hedge to trim.

6. When finished trimming, remove the unit

from the hedge before releasing hands.

Securing The Extension Cord Connection

Use the cord hook when you connect the

extension cord to the power cord to prevent

disconnection.

When operating the trimmer, keep extension

cord behind trimmer. Never drape it over hedge

being trimmed.

Murray Inc. (See Important Safety

Instruction. )

Safety Rules

1. Always keep the cord behind the hedge

trimmer when in use. Do not place it over the

hedge where it may be cut by the blade.

2. If blade jams on any electrical cord or

line, Do not touch the blade! It can

become electrically live and very dangerous.

Continue to hold your trimmer by the

insulated handles and immediately

disconnect the damaged electrical cord or

line from the power source. Failure to heed

this danger will result in serious personal

injury and possibly death.

3. To prevent serious personal injury, always

use both the front handle and rear handle to

hold the hedge trimmer during operation.

4. Keep hands away from blades. Do not

attempt to remove cut material or hold

material to be cut when blades are moving.

Make sure unit is unplugged and the switch

is off when clearing jammed material from

blades. Do not grasp the exposed cutting

blades or cutting edges when picking up or

holding the unit.

5. Never use guard as a handle. Never grasp

the unit by the guard. Failure to heed this

warning can result in serious personal injury.

6. Clear the area to be cut before each use.

Remove all objects such as cords, lights,

wire, or string which can become entangled

in the cutting blade.

7. Do not try to cut stems that are larger than

3/4 inch thick, or those obviously too large to

feed into the cutting blade. Use a non-

powered hand saw or pruning saw to trim

large stems.

Tips For Best Trimming Results

1. You can use a string to help cut your hedge

level. Decide how high you want the hedge.

Then, stretch the string along the hedge at

this height. Trim the hedge just above this

guide line of the string. (See figure).

2. When trimming new growth, use a wide

sweeping action, so that the stems are fed

directly into the cutting blade. Older growth

will have thicker stems and will be trimmed

easiest by using a sawing movement.

3. Keep from trimming too much at one time.

This can cause the blades to bind and slow,

reducing the cutting efficiency.

4. Do not force the unit through dense growth.

If the blades slow down, reduce your pace.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

WARNING: Always stop and unplug

the unit before performing ANY

Before Each Use Check For Damaged/Worn

Parts, especially:

•Blade guard  Make sure it is installed

properly.

•Blade  Check the alignment and binding of

blade.

•Extension Cord  Look closely for

deterioration, cuts or cracks in the insulation.

Also inspect the connections for damage.

Replace the cords if any defects or damage

appear.

After Each Use Clean Unit And Labels

1. Clean the unit using a damp cloth.

2. Wipe off the unit with a clean, dry, soft cloth.

Lubricating the Blade

1. For easier operation and longer blade life,

lubricate the hedge trimmer blade before and

after each use.

2. Before lubricating, be sure the switch is in

the off position and the tool is disconnected

from the power supply.

Service Of Double Insulated Units

This unit is double-insulated. In a double-

insulated unit, two systems of insulation are

provided instead of grounding. No means of

grounding are provided on a double-insulated

unit, nor should a means for grounding be

added to this unit.

Servicing a double-insulated unit requires

extreme care and knowledge of the system, and

should be done only by qualified service

personnel. Replacement parts for a double-

insulated unit must be identical to the parts they

replace. A double-insulated unit is marked with

the words DOUBLE INSULATION or DOUBLE

INSULATED or symbol .

Sharpening The Cutting Blade

1. Allow the hedge trimmer to stop with the

cutting blade and blade guide positioned as

shown in the Figure below.

2. Unplug hedge trimmer from power supply.

3. Clamp the blade assembly in a vise and file

the exposed cutting surface of each blade

tooth. Be sure to retain the original angle of

tooth when filing.

4. Remove the hedge trimmer from the vise,

connect, restart it, and stop it so that the

unsharpened edges of the blade teeth are

exposed.

5. Disconnect the tool and repeat the

sharpening procedure as described above.

3. Apply light machine oil as shown in the

figure below.

CLEANING AND STORAGE

Cleaning And Storing The Unit

1. Stop and unplug the trimmer.

2. Clean the unit using a damp cloth with a

mild detergent.

3. Wipe off the unit with a clean, dry, soft cloth.

4. Store the trimmer in a dry, well-ventilated

area, out of the reach of children and other

unauthorized user.

WARNING: Do not use any strong

detergents on the plastic housing or the

handle. They can be damaged by certain

aromatic oils such as pine and lemon,

and by solvents such as kerosene.

Moisture can also cause a shock hazard.

Wipe off any moisture with a soft dry

cloth.

SIl s’agit d’un appareil à double isolation. Lors des répa-

rations, utilisez uniquement des pièces de rechange

identiques.

SCette appareil possède une prise polarisée (une fiche

est plus large que l’autre) et nécessitera l’utilisation d’un

prolongateur polarisé. La prise de l’appareil ne se bran-

chera que d’une seule façon au prolongateur. Si la prise

ne se branche pas correctement au prolongateur, inver-

sez la prise. Si la prise ne se branche toujours pas bien,

obtenez un prolongateur correctement polarisé. Un pro-

longateur polarisé nécessitera l’utilisation d’une prise

électrique murale polarisée.

SCette prise ne se branchera à une prise électrique mu-

rale polarisée que d’une seule façon. Si la prise ne se

branche pas complètement dans la prise murale, inver-

sez la prise. Si la prise ne se branche toujours pas bien,

contactez un électricien qualifié pour qu’il installe une

prise murale appropriée.

SNe modifiez en aucun cas la prise de l’appareil, le boî-

tier du prolongateur ou la prise du prolongateur.

SÉvitez les milieux dangereux. N’utilisez pas l’appareil

dans des endroits humides ou mouillés.

SNe l’utilisez pas sous la pluie ou sous la neige.

SGardez les enfants à bonne distance. Tous les specta-

teurs devraient se tenir à une distance minimale de 50

pieds de la zone de travail.

SPortez des vêtements appropriés. Ne portez pas de vê-

tements lâches ou de bijoux. Ils pourraient se prendre

dans les pièces mobiles. Le port de gants en caout-

chouc et de chaussures solides est recommandé pour

les travaux en plein air. Contenez les cheveux longs

dans un filet à cheveux ou un bonnet. Portez un panta-

lon long de toile épaisse, des bottes, des gants et une

chemise à manches longues pendant l’utilisation pour

réduire les risques de blessures dues aux débris proje-

tés.

SPortez des lunettes de sécurité. Portez toujours un mas-

que si le lieu de travail est poussiéreux.

SUtilisez le bon outil. N’utilisez pas un appareil à des fins

autres que celles pour lesquelles il a été conçu.

SUne protection par disjoncteur de fuite à la terre (GFCI)

devrait être présente sur les circuits ou les prises utili-

sées pour les outils de jardinage. Des boîtiers électri-

ques équipés d’une protection GFCI sont vendus dans

le commerce et peuvent être utilisés pour cette mesure

de sécurité.

Mise en garde : Pour réduire les risques d’élec-

trocution, utilisez uniquement un prolongateur

conçu pour l’utilisation à l’extérieure, tel qu’un

prolongateur de type SW–A, SOW–A, STW–A,

STOW–A, SJW–A, SJOW–A, SJTW–A ou

SJTOW–A.

SLes types SW, SOW, STW, STOW, SJW, SJOW, SJTW

et SJTOW sont d’autres désignations des types SW–A,

SOW–A, STW–A, STOW–A, SJW–A, SJOW–A, SJTW–

A et SJTOW–A, respectivement.

S Prolongateur Vérifiez le bon état de votre prolonga-

teur. Lors de l’utilisation d’un prolongateur, veillez à en

utiliser un suffisamment calibré pour le courant que vo-

tre produit va consommer. Un prolongateur d’un calibre

insuffisant provoquera une chute de tension, entraînant

une perte de puissance et une surchauffe.

Consultez le tableau suivant pour connaître le calibre

correct à utiliser selon la longueur du prolongateur et

l’ampérage. En cas de doute, utilisez un fil plus lourd.

Plus le numéro de calibre est petit, plus le fil est lourd.

SPour réduire les risques de débranchement du cordon

de l’appareil pendant le fonctionnement, branchez le

prolongateur conformément à l’illustration de la section

« Utilisation » de ce manuel.

SÉvitez les démarrages involontaires. Ne portez pas

l’appareil branché avec le doigt sur la gâchette. Vérifiez

bien que la gâchette est en position éteinte lorsque

vous branchez l’appareil.

SNe maltraitez pas le cordon. Ne portez jamais l’appareil

par son cordon et ne tirez pas sur le cordon pour le dé-

brancher de la prise. Gardez le cordon à bonne distan-

ce des sources de chaleur, d’huile et des objets

tranchants.

SNe saisissez pas les lames de coupe exposées ou les

bords tranchants lorsque vous ramassez l’appareil ou le

tenez.

SNe forcez pas l’appareil. Il effectuera mieux le travail

avec moins de risques de blessures au rythme pour le-

quel il a été conçu.

SNe tendez pas trop les bras. Maintenez de bons appuis

et un bon équilibre en tout temps.

SRestez vigilent. Faites attention à ce que vous faites.

N’utilisez pas l’appareil lorsque vous êtes fatigué.

SDébranchez l’appareil de la source d’alimentation élec-

trique lorsqu’il n’est pas utilisé, avant de le réparer et

lorsque vous en remplacez des accessoires.

SRangez les appareils inutilisés à l’intérieur. Lorsqu’ils ne

sont pas utilisés, les appareils devraient être rangés à

l’intérieur, dans un endroit sec et haut ou verrouillé, hors

de portée des enfants.

SEntretenez avec soin l’appareil. Gardez les bords de

coupe tranchants et propres pour en obtenir un meilleur

rendement et réduire les risques de blessures. Suivez

les instructions de graissage et de remplacement des

accessoires. Examinez régulièrement l’appareil et, s’il

est endommagé, faites le réparer par un centre de répa-

ration agréé. Examinez régulièrement les prolongateurs

et remplacez–les s’ils sont endommagés. Gardez les

poignées sèches, propres et sans huile ni graisse.

SExaminez–le pour y déceler la présence de pièces en-

dommagées. Avant de réutiliser l’appareil, toutes les

pièces endommagées devraient être soigneusement

examinées pour voir si elles continueront de bien fonc-

tionner et d’effectuer la fonction prévue. Vérifiez l’aligne-

ment et la fixation des pièces mobiles, le bon état des

pièces, le montage et toute autre situation qui pourrait

gêner le bon fonctionnement de l’appareil. Un dispositif

de sécurité abîmé ou une autre pièce endommagée de-

vrait être correctement réparé ou remplacé.

SLaissez en place et en état de marche les dispositifs de

protection.

SGardez les lames tranchantes.

SPour les réparations, utilisez uniquement des pièces de

rechange approuvées par Murray, Inc. L’utilisation d’au-

tres pièces ou accessoires pourrait entraîner des bles-

sures pour l’utilisateur et des dégâts matériels pour

l’appareil.

SNe tentez aucun travail d’entretien, de réparation ou de

remplacement non décrit par votre mode d’emploi.

SNettoyez la zone à couper avant chaque utilisation. Re-

tirez–en tous les objets, comme les cailloux, les mor-

ceaux de verre, les clous, les câbles ou les fils qui

pourraient être jetés ou s’entortiller dans l’accessoire de

coupe. Faites partir les enfants, les spectateurs et les

animaux de compagnie de la zone.

SUtilisez l’appareil uniquement pendant le jour ou dans

de bonnes conditions d’éclairage artificiel.

SUtilisez uniquement l’appareil à l’extérieur dans un en-

droit bien aéré.

SGardez les cheveux, les vêtements lâches, les doigts,

les mains et toutes les autres parties du corps à bonne

distance des ouvertures et des pièces mobiles.

SSi les lames touchent ou s’entortillent dans un objet

étranger, éteignez immédiatement l’appareil et vérifiez–

en l’état. Ne l’utilisez pas avant de le faire réparer. N’uti-

lisez pas l’appareil s’il a des pièces lâches ou abîmées.

S Éteignez toujours l’appareil lorsque son utilisation est

suspendue ou lorsque vous marchez d’un endroit de

travail à un autre.

SAvant de poser l’appareil, il faut toujours l’éteindre et

vérifier que les pièces de coupe se sont arrêtées.

SÉteignez et débranchez l’appareil pour les travaux d’en-

tretien, de réparation ou le remplacement des accessoi-

res de coupe ou d’autres accessoires.

SExaminez régulièrement tous les prolongateurs et tous

les branchements. Remplacez les prolongateurs qui

présentent des traces de défauts ou de dégâts.

SGardez l’appareil propre de toute végétation ou autre

matière. Elle pourrait se coincer entre l’accessoire de

coupe et le dispositif de protection.

SNettoyez l’appareil après chaque utilisation. Laissez

l’appareil refroidir avant de le ranger ou de le transpor-

ter.

SN’aspergez jamais l’appareil d’eau ou d’un autre liquide.

Gardez les poignées sèches, propres et sans débris.

SDanger – Risque de coupure – Gardez les mains à bon-

ne distance des lames. Gardez les deux mains sur les

poignées lorsque l’appareil est allumé.

SN’essayez pas de retirer les matières coupées ou de

tenir les matières à couper lorsque les lames bougent.

Vérifiez que l’appareil est débranché et que la gâchette

est en position éteinte lorsque vous retirez des matières

coincées des lames. Ne saisissez pas les lames expo-

sées ou les bords tranchants pour ramasser ou tenir

l’appareil. Les lames ne s’arrêtent qu’après un délai

lorsque l’appareil est mis hors tension.

SSi les lames se coincent sur un cordon ou un fil électri-

que, ne touchez pas les lames! Elles peuvent être sous

tension et très dangereuses. Continuez de tenir votre

taille–haie par ses poignées isolées et débranchez im-

médiatement au niveau de la source d’alimentation le

cordon ou le fil électrique endommagé. Le non–respect

de cette mesure de sécurité importante pourrait entraî-

ner des blessures graves, voire fatales.

Conservez ces instructions.

Consultez-les souvent et utilisez-les pour renseigner les autres utilisateurs.

UTILISATION

MISE EN GARDE : Une fois l'appareil

branché, il suffit de saisir les deux poignées

pour le faire démarrer. NE BRANCHEZ

L'APPAREIL QU'UNE FOIS QUE VOUS ÊTES

PRÊT À TAILLER LA HAIE.

Avant de démarrer l'appareil, effectuez les

vérifications suivantes :

1. Vous portez des lunettes de sécurité ainsi

qu'un équipement de protection de l'ouïe et

des vêtements appropriés.

2. La zone de travail est exempte de

personnes, animaux domestiques et corps

étrangers.

3. La lame de coupe n'est pas en contact avec

quoique ce soit.

Utilisation du taille-haie

1. Branchez l'appareil et raccordez la

rallonge.

2. En positionnant la lame écartée de votre

corps et la rallonge derrière l'appareil,

tenez le taille-haie des deux mains. (Voir

la figure)

3. Démarrez l'appareil en tenant la lame à

l'écart de la haie à tailler.

4. Saisissez dabord la poignée avant

dune main, ensuite, saisissez la

poignée arrière de lautre main.

5. Déplacez l'appareil sur la haie à tailler.

6. Une fois la taille terminée, soulevez

l'appareil de la haie avant de relâcher les

mains.

Vérification du branchement de la rallonge

Afin d'éviter tout débranchement accidentel,

utilisez le crochet de rallonge pour brancher la

rallonge sur le cordon d'alimentation.

Gardez le cordon derrière la tondeuse lorsque

celle-ci est en fonctionnement. Ne le laissez

jamais reposer sur la haie à couper.
