BLOTZ B28-HH-001 Assembly Instructions

  • Hello! I've reviewed the instructions for the BLOTZ Highland Hovel 28mm #1. This document provides a detailed guide for assembling the model, from the initial steps of removing components from the sprue to completing the thatched roof and painting the finished model. I'm ready to answer any questions you might have about the assembly process.

Please read these instructions fully before starting construction.
PVA or equivalent glue will be required to stick sections together.
Sand paper can be used to gently clean any joints.
A sharp modelling knife will be required to remove sections from the sprue. Please use knives with due care
and remember to cut away from yourself at all times.
During the construction of this model, you may find it convenient to use pegs / elastic bands to hold pieces in
place while you allow glue to dry.
Remove the floor and the inner walls from the
sprue.
Glue the walls to the floor (etched detail facing
inwards) to form an open topped box.
Note: there is a small line etched into the top of all
the short wall pieces. This should be at the top.
Add the upper wall support, gently slotting all the
lugs into the associated holes.
Glue the door handle to the door.
The outer wall pieces.
Starting with the door – glue the outer wall piece
into place.
Move around the building, adding each outer wall
piece in turn.
Place the bottom door lug into the hole in the
floor. Place the top support on top of the door,
then slide it into place within the gap in the wall.
Push the top support flush with the wall (it may be
a very snug fit)
Take the base of the roof and the two triangular
roof supports.
Glue them into place as shown above.
Each set of end supports is made from these
pieces.
Glue them together as shown.
Glue them into position.
Take the two connector pieces.
Glue them into place.
Place the roof on top of the ground floor.
Take the two rectangular roof sections.
Stick them into place.
Each end of the roof has six trangular pieces
(marked – in order A B C C B A)
Start at one side and add one of the “A” pieces.
Glue each one into place. There will be a small
hole left at the top.
Read the thatching instructions.
When sticking the side thatch on, it should cover
the rectangular roof section as well as the two
triangular “A” sections next to it.
This leaves four triangular sections uncovered (B C
C B). These are then covered by a single piece of
thatch which is trimmed to fit.
The completed model.
Painting
After construction we sprayed our model with black car undercoat / primer.
The stone areas received a heavy drybrush of a blue/grey colour, a medium drybrush of a pale grey and a
light dry brush of white – all were DIY emulsion.
All the wooden areas were then heavily dry brushed with a dark brown colour (DIY emulsion), followed by a
medium dry brush using a milk chocolate colour (DIY emulsion) and finished off with a light dry brush of a
cream colour (DIY emulsion).
After painting, the thatched roof was added (see separate guide).
