The TBS DISCOVERY PRO is a versatile and powerful gimbal controller designed for use with FPV cameras and GoPros. This device is perfect for capturing smooth, stable footage, even in challenging conditions. The DISCOVERY PRO comes pre-configured with optimal gimbal gains, but you can also adjust these settings to your liking using the SimpleBGC (BASE CAM) software.

One of the standout features of the DISCOVERY PRO is its ability to switch between camera and GoPro on the fly. This allows you to capture footage from different perspectives without having to stop and change cameras. The DISCOVERY PRO also supports PPM input, making it compatible with a wide range of receivers.

Guide

1 QUICK INFO

 Gimbal controller: SimpleBGC by AlexMos, firmware version 2.1 – www.simplebgc.com –

connect via USB to the DISCOVERY. Power battery first. The DISCOVERY has all SimpleBGC

parameters pre-set and calibration performed, there is no modification of settings required

 The gimbal gains are adjustable with above software. We have loaded on the settings that work

best for us. If you find one that works better, please let us know. We are very appreciative of

constructive feedback.

2 CORE, FPV CAM & GOPRO CONFIGURATION

 When you first power up the CORE will ask you to cycle through the buttons DN, ENTER and UP

accordingly just to see that they work.

 Press ENTER for a few seconds to go inside the configuration menu. Set the camera type to

“SWITCH”. Once this is set you can switch between camera and GoPro on the designated

channel (find the correct input on the top plate).

 Set the GoPro recording mode to match your FPV camera. 25p if you’re using PAL, 30p if you’re

using NTSC. This allows faster transitions between the two cameras because the viewing device

does not need to switch between PAL and NTSC.

3 GIMBAL ALIGNMENT

 You can slide the roll-bar of the Gimbal to balance the Gimbal on the roll axis. For the tilt axis it

is generally ok, but if you notice that the motors are working too hard you can pad the camera

with bamboo or balsa wood pieces or any similar material to elevate it into balance.

4 TO PPM OR NOT TO PPM

 The DISCOVERY PRO is built with PPM in mind. The top and bottom plate automatically

distribute PPM to the designated areas when you plug PPM into the allocated channel. Ensure

that your receiver can emit a valid PPM signal and runs on the latest firmware revision.

 There is a solder jumper near the battery bay on the top plate allowing you to switch the gimbal

to PPM. You will need to configure the gimbal to accept the PPM commands. Use the AlexMos

SimpleBGC (BASE CAM) software for this.

 On the bottom plate you can access the PPM stream behind the flight control. This plugs into

Naza X2 port if you’re using Naza. Keep in mind that you will need to adjust the NAZA settings.

 The CORE’s camera switcher does not support PPM (we have our reasons for this …) so you will

still need to supply a PWM signal to this channel.

5 SOURCES FOR JELLO

 Unbalanced or badly damaged propellers. Please balance your propellers and use high quality

propellers only.

 Untrue gimbal. The gimbal must be positioned in parallel to the top and bottom plates. The best

way to ensure alignment is by verifying that the roll motor and bottom plate are parallel – with

camera inside the gimbal! Use the sliding position holes on the bottom plates to adjust.

 kV and prop size do not match the damping properties of the installed dampers. Think of the

entire damper layout as accumulating hardness. The green dampers are the softest, red the

medium and orange the hardest. Vary between the colors and layouts, keeping the left and right

half of the gimbal symmetrical (top and bottom do not need to remain symmetrical) to find the

system that works for you. TBS can only ensure proper operation with the TBS-approved setup:

900kV motors, 9x5 Graupner propellers, TBS BULLETPROOF ESCs. All other layouts are subject to

optimization. We did provide various dampers free of charge to allow you to experiment with

any given setup.

6 TROUBLESHOOTING

 The gimbal will go nuts if you have the USB plugged in while cycling power. Always plug the

main battery cable in first, the USB second.

 Ensure that the gimbal turns true. If there are any wrongly assembled or bent parts the gimbal

will oscillate and make the motors work harder.

 If the gimbal drifts, please download the BASECAM software at www.simplebgc.com – connect

you DISCOVERY PRO to your PC and run the ACC. and Gyro calibration. Ensure that the gimbal is

perfectly still and perfectly straight during this calibration process.

 Ensure that there is no shrink wrap in the hole of the ball bearing. Slide it before or after if it

happens to be there. It can hinder the movement of the gimbal.

 Should the GB2208 gimbal motor bell not be firmly attached to the shaft, use some sandpaper

to roughen up the shaft and mating hole of the gimbal motor. Secure with Loctite or CA glue.

Apply glue carefully.
