Installation Procedure (Overview, no instructions)
Note Avoid starting the LD-PeCo and the connected PC/host simultaneously.
1. Check the delivery to make sure that none of the components are missing.
2. Mount and align the LD-PeCo on the counting area.
LD-PeCo5,5 and LD-PeCo15:
1. Open the LD-PeCo housing. To do so, loosen the five clamps on the cover.
2. Lead the connection cable(s) through the PG 11 conduit threads on the rear of the
housing.
3. Connect the 24 V DC power supply to the 10-pin terminal block on the terminal board.
Use thereby a wire cross-section of at least 1mm
2
(18 AWG) at a maximum length of
20 m (65.6 ft).
Do not switch on the power supply yet!
4. Depending on application, connect the switching outputs Count IN and Count OUT at
the 10-pin terminal block (cross-section at least 0.25 mm
2
(24 AWG)).
5. To configure the LD-PeCo, connect temporarily the prefabricated setup cable 1.
In order to do that, replace the socket at the interface adapter by the 9-pin D Sub socket
of the setup cable 1 (no. 1025703).
6. Connect the 24 V DC supply voltage for the LD-PeCo5,5/LD-PeCo15 via the two wires
with banana plugs (red = +, black = –) of the setup cable 1.
7. Switch on the power supply for the LD-PeCo5,5/LD-PeCo15.
The device initiates a self-test and starts using the factory default settings.
The green LED flashes. The scanner head starts to rotate.
The LD-PeCo does not start counting immediately because its field of view (outline) has
to be taught in first.
8. Connect the 9-pin D Sub plug of the setup cable 1 to the RS 422/RS 232 interface con-
verter (e.g. B&B Model 4WSDR9). The pin assignment of the plug is defined for the in-
terface converter B&B Model 4WSDR9.
9. Connect the PC to the RS 422/RS 232 interface converter.
Use a RS 232 data cable with 1:1 pin assignment (extension cable).
10. Further information can be found by the section “All LD-PeCo:“, Page 10.
LD-PeCo3100:
1. Remove the unconnected 20-pin Harting connector from the rear of the unit.
2. Lead the connection cable(s) through the PG 11 conduit thread of the connector and
wire the plug-inlet (screw terminals) according to the connection diagram. Consider the
recommendations for the wire cross-section (see above).
3. To configure the LD-PeCo3100 connect temporarily the prefabricated setup cable
no. 6032770. Connect the 20-pin Harting connector of this cable to the unit.
4. Route the supply voltage for the electronics of the LD-PeCo3100 via the two open wires
of the setup cable (white = +, brown = –). The heater will not be supplied with voltage.
5. Switch-on the supply voltage for the LD-PeCo3100.
The LD-PeCo3100 will start after the selft-test using the default settings.
The unit does not start counting because its field of view (outline) has to be taught in
first.
6. Connect the 15-pin D Sub HD plug of the setup cable by user specific cableing (adapter)
to a RS 422/RS 232 converter (e.g. B&B Modell 4WSD9R).

3 Product Description
This chapter describes the design, the features and the functions of the LD-PeCo.
¾ Please, read this chapter for the installation, electrical installation and startup assis-
tance of the LD-PeCo as well as for the configuration of the device using the PeCo Setup
configuration software prior to carrying out any of the tasks.
3.1 Design of the unit
The LD-PeCo People Counter consists of a LD-OEM1000 laser measurement system and a
construction of mirrors and a connectivity. The components are, depending on the type,
integrated in two different robust housings. The mirror construction and the both openings
(viewing windows) in the housings are used to generate two, for the human eye invisible,
fan-shaped light curtains. At each window, the laser beam of the light curtain exits and the
reflected light enters again. In order to count from above the unit has to be mounted over
the location, the openings are directed downwards. The unit provides a RS 422 interface as
well as two digital switching outputs (active low).
LD-PeCo5,5/LD-PeCo15
To access the connection board with terminals, the cover of the LD-PeCo5,5/LD-PeCo15
housing (IP 40) can be opened with the assistance of 5 quick release clamps (Fig. 3-1,
Page 18). On the rear of the unit there are two PG 11 conduit threads and a hinged foot
together with a pipe for mounting the unit at the wall or ceiling of a room. A corresponding
tube fastening system is contained in the scope of delivery. The 4 LEDs at the laser
measurement system in the housing-inside are giving information about the status and the
condition of the switching outputs during the setup and the inspection. The two viewing
windows in the cover consist of plastic.
LD-PeCo3100
The variant LD-PeCo3100 with integrated heater is designed for the operation in areas,
where a high enclosure rating (IP 67), and/or ambient operating temperatures down to
–25 °C (–13 °F) are required. The electrical connection is done via a Harting plug-in
connection. The unit does not have any accessible LEDs. By the means of 4 screw thread-
sockets at the rear-side and available mounting accessories, the LD-PeCo3100 can be
mounted at flat surfaces (walls, ceilings, beams) or at vertical tubes. The two viewing
windows consist of glass. The counting system works after switching on the supply voltage
for the electronics independently from the heater. However, the unit only works reliably at
deep environment temperatures, if an inside temperature of minimum 0 °C (+32 °F) is
reached. The warm-up time of the appliance amounts approximately 90 min at an ambient
operating temperatures of –25°C (–13 °F). The heater cyclically switches on and off
controlled by a two-point-regulator.
