SISisthesoftwareanduserinterfaceforrealtimedataprocessingforhydrographic

instruments.ItisincludedonalldeliveriesofmultibeamechosoundersfromKongsberg

Maritime.

SISisanintuitiveanduserfriendlyinterfaceforthesurveyor,providingthefunctionality

neededforrunningasurveyefciently.

SISrunsonaWindowsoperatingsystem,andiscompatiblewiththeHydrographicWork

Station(HWS)hardware.UptofourscreenscanbeusedononeHWS,andSIScanalso

showgeographicaldisplaysonseveralremotecomputersinthenetwork.

TheKongsbergMaritimeechosoundersarecompletesystems.Allnecessarysensor

interfaces,datadisplaysforqualitycontrolandsensorcalibration,seabedvisualization,and

dataloggingarestandardpartsofthesystems.

Networksecurity

IfaSISsystemisconnectedtoalocalareanetwork,datasecurityisimportant.

EquipmentmanufacturedbyKongsbergMaritimeisfrequentlyconnectedtothevessel's

localareanetwork(LAN).Whenyouconnectacomputertoalocalareanetworkyouwill

alwaysexposethedataonthatcomputer.Allothercomputersconnectedtothesame

networkmaybeabletoaccessyourdata.Severalthreatsmayimmediatelyoccur:

•Remotecomputerscanreadthedata.

•Remotecomputerscanchangethedata.

•Remotecomputerscanchangethebehaviorofthecomputer,forexamplebyinstalling

unwantedsoftware.

Usually,twoparametersareusedtodenethethreatlevel:

1Thelikelihoodthatanyremotecomputerwilldoanyoftheabove.

2Thedamagedoneifaremotecomputersucceedsdoingthis.

KongsbergMaritimehasnoinformationregardingthecompletesysteminstallationon

anyvessel.SystemsprovidedbyKongsbergMaritimeareregardedasstand-aloneofine

systems.Theyarestand-aloneeventhoughtheymaybeconnectedtoanetworkforsensor

interfacesand/ordatadistribution.

Note

NonetworksafetyapplicationsareinstalledonKongsbergMaritimecomputers.The

computersarethereforenotprotectedagainstviruses,malwareorunintentionalaccessby

externalusers.

SecuringtheSISsystemitselfhasnomeaningunlessthereisapolicyinplacethatsecures

allcomputersinthenetwork.Thispolicymustincludephysicalaccessbytrainedandtrusted

users.Thecustomer/enduseroftheSISsystemwillalwaysbeinchargeofdeningand

implementingasecurity,policyandprovidingtherelevantnetworksecurityapplications.

Note

KongsbergMaritimewillnotacceptanyresponsibilityforerrorsand/ordamagescausedby

unauthorizeduseoforaccesstotheSISsystem.

IfyouwishtoconnecttheSISsystemtotheship'slocalareanetwork,youmustimplement

thesamesecuritymechanismsontheSIScomputer(s)asfortherestofthenetwork.Thisis

ataskforthenetworkresponsiblepersononboard.Somekeyelementsheremustbe:

•Thesameanti-virusprotectiononallcomputers,includingroutinesforupdatingthis

protection.

•Thesamesettingsfortherewallonallcomputers.

•Controlledphysicalaccesstocomputersonthenetwork.

•Trustedandtrainedoperators.

•Log-inaccessmechanisms.

•Samepolicyforattachingperipheralequipmenttothecomputers(USBdevices,hard

drivesetc).

•Installationofprogramsonanycomputerinthenetwork,vericationthateachprogram

isauthentic.

Prerequisites

Note

SISsettingswillbelostwheninstallinganewversionofSIS.

PU-parameters(Installation-andRuntime-parametersforthetransducers)arekept.The

operatorshouldinspectandsetAutomaticstartupofechosoundersto1,intheStartup

optionsforsystemfoundITools->ParameterSetup.

Note

Installingapreviousversionofprogrammustbedonebyperformingacompleteprogram

installation.

Donotreplace.exe-lesonlyasthismaycausethesystemtomalfunction.

Inordertoinstallthesoftware,youneedtherelevantlesetonasuitablemedia.

Youneedoneinstallleforeachechosounder.

Note

Makesurethatyouhaveadministrativerightsonthecomputer .Youneedthistoinstall

thesoftware.Ifyoupurchasedyourowncomputer,youmustmakesurethatitmeetsthe

6InserttheSISlicensedongleinanyUSBconnectorontheHydrographicWorkStation.

7Oncethesoftwareinstallationhasbeencompleted,double-clicktheSISicononthe

desktoptostarttheprogram.

8Dependingonyouroperatingsystemparameters,certaindialogboxesmayopen.
