Brussels Airport
Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the administrative centre of the European Union
Brussels has been given its character by the coexistence of French and Flemish culture. Brussels is ofcially
bilingual, French and Dutch.
It has a population of 1.025.000 inhabitants.
Brussels is served by Brussels Airport located in the nearby Flemish municipality of Zaventem, and by the
much smaller so-called Brussels South Airport, located near Charleroi, (Wallonia), some 50km from Brussels.
Brussels is also served by direct high-speed rail links: to the United Kingdom, the Eurostar train via the Chan-
nel Tunnel; to Amsterdam, Paris and Cologne by the Thalys and to Cologne and Frankfurt by the German
ICE.
Facts about the Airport
19 October 2006 the airport revealed its new name.
From the earliest days the Belgian royal house took a keen interest in aviation.
In February 1915 the construction of a zeppelin hangar on the territory of Haren was nished and little by little
the civil aviation was organized between Brussels and the British and French capitals.
By the middle of 30s several foreign airline companies operated from the airport.
After the Second World War the most of the civil aviation activities were moved from Haren to Melsbroek.
In 1956 the construction of a new airport started. Runways and hangars were adapted to the needs of the
jet age. The rst Sud-Est SE.210 Caravelle landed at Melsbroek 25 July 1956.
2 July 1970 the rst Jumbo jet landed at Zaventem.
In 1985 the Master Plan for the modernization of the airport was presented. In December 1994 the new termi-
nal was nished and inaugurated by King Albert II and in May 2002 the Pier A was opened by Prins Philip.
The Brussels airport is today one of the fastest growing international airports. In the past few years the airport
was proclaimed “The Best Airport in Europe” by several organizations.

Performance
To achieve a framerate as high as possible within Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, please note the following:
Your maximum visibility should be 10-20 miles (see weather settings). This accelerates the framerate and it is
more realistic.
You can even turn down the scenery complexity from extremely dense to dense to normal and to very
sparse to accelerate the simulator some more. This may result in some scenery elements not appearing on
the screen. The reason it has been done is because most PC systems will be able to achieve an optimum
speed. I do recommend you to use this function. If you upgrade to a faster processor you can change the
scenery complexity accordingly. If you have a need for better performance set the autogen to sparse or
normal and AI to 3-40%. If you think that this could improve
the performance even more. Important if you want everything to show up on the screen you have to set
the scenery slider to extremely dense.
