beneficialforaperson’shealthandreiteratedtheneedforexerciseasakeycomponentfordiseasepreventionandhealthier
living.
Thebestwaytodetermineexerciseintensityistomonitoryourpulserate
.Yourhear
tratecaneasilybedeterminedbycounting
thenumberofheartbeatsperminuteatthechest,wristorthecarotidarteryonyourneck.Itisdifficulthowevertocountyour
ownpulsewhileexercisingasitisnotpossibletocountfastenoughtoac
curatelytrackth
enumberofbeatsperminute.This

UsingtheTouchHeartRateSensors

CalculatedMaximumHeartRate&TargetTrainingZone
Yourtargetheartratedependsprimarilyuponyourage.Itisimportanttoworkwithin
asafeandproductivezone,foriftheexerciseintensityistoolowortoohigh,only
modestgainswillbemadeinstrengthandcardiovascularfitness.Aworkoutatavery
lowintensitywillnotoffermaximumben
efits.Conversely,ifth
eworkoutintensityis
toohigh,injuryorfatiguemayslowtheprogressionofyourexercisegoalsasthebody
attemptstorecover.
Note: Itismosteffectivetotrainataheartratebetween60%and85%of
yourmaximumheartrate.Maximumheartrateiscalculatedasa
percentageofyourmaximumheartrate(estimatedas220beats
perminuteminusyourage).
Tocalculateyourmaximumheartrateandfindtheappropriatetargettrainingzone,usethefollowingformulas.Forexample,

WORKOUTQUALITYANDQUANTITY
Itisrecommendedthatyouaccumulateatleastthirty(30)minutesofphysicalactivitymostdaysoftheweek.TheAmerican
CollegeofSportsMedicinemakesthefollowingrecommendationsforthequantityandqualityoftrainingfordevelopingand
maintainingcardiorespiratoryfitnessinhealthyadults:
Anactivitythatuseslargem

ups,maintainedcontinuously,andisrhythmicalandaerobicinnature.
Duration: 20to60minutesofcontinuousaerobicactivity,includingawarmupandcooldownperiodforeach
session.
Frequency: 3to5timesperweek.

Inadditiontoaerobicexercise,strengthtrai
