Symbols

This manual uses the symbols depicted below for Danger, Caution and Note:

Danger

This symbol indicates situations where failure to follow the instructions carefully can result in

danger to life, injury or accidents.

Caution

This symbol indicates situations where failure to follow the instructions carefully can cause

damage to your equipment.

Note

This symbol is used to draw your attention to a particularly important sections of text.

Important Rules

jaguar is no dangerous piece of equipment. Protective insulation and a series of additional protective measures

ensure that you cannot contact any harmful electric currents. However, as with all electrical equipment, you will

need to follow a few simple rules:

• Never switch on equipment that is obviously damaged. Send the equipment back to

your dealer or transtechnik for repair.

• If there is any reason to suspect a fault, unplug mains supply immediately. Ensure that

it cannot be operated again. Send equipment to an authorized dealer or back to

transtechnik for repair.

• Always unplug equipment from mains supply before opening.

• Assemblies inside the equipment can be very hot if it has just been switched off.

Common Rules

Repairing jaguar should be limited to changing assemblies. Faulty assemblies should be returned to

transtechnik for repair.

Changing assemblies is simple. Keep in mind following rules, to preserve full operation and reliability of your

console.

• Do not apply any violence

Remove assemblies or parts with care, replace them with caution.

Do not trap cables. On demand use tools to unplug connectors, for example a screw driver. Avoid

tensile loadings.

• Obviously damaged parts should always be exchanged.

• For handling printed circuit boards, refer to instructions on page 3

• Use screw drivers of appropriate size only.

• Unplug connectors only if you are sure that on assembly you will not confuse any cables or

connectors.

• Be careful on cables, use cable ties.

• Take care that no parts fall accidentally into the console. Missing parts can produce short circuits

or other subtle malfunctions.

• Do not forget or omit washers or retaining rings.

• Fasten screws and nuts with care.

• Lock screw joints using screw lacquer.

• After installation of assemblies check connectors and cabling.

Tools and Supply Material

To repair jaguar you do not need any special tools. Equipped with following simple tools you should be able to

change all assemblies without any problem.

Tools:

• Screw driver of several sizes (standard or Phillips)

• Socket wrench size 5,5 and 7, sometimes an additional flat wrench 5,5

• Cutter

• Flat nose pliers

• Welding iron

Material:

• Cable ties

• Screw lacquer

All screw fasteners are metric.

Handling Printed Circuit Boards

Some printed circuit boards are equipped with CMOS-type parts. They are sensitive to overvoltage.

Uncontrolled touch of PCBs can destroy those parts. Consider following precautions, to avoid accidental

damage:

1. Touch PCBs or parts only for repair purpose.

2. Before you start working on PCBs or parts discharge yourself be touching an earth connected part of the

enclosure.

3. Dismount PCBs only after mains supply is switched off, better disconnected.

4. Before removing PCBs disconnect cables.

5. Touch PCBs only at the edge.

6. Use only antistatic packaging material for transport and store.

7. Prevent touch of PCBs and highly insulating material like plastic foils or clothing made from synthetic fibers.

8. Deposit PCBs only on conductive base.

9. Care for earth connection to welding iron.

Open jaguar

To access assemblies for service or repair you have to open the console.

Procedure

Unplug mains supply

Unfasten 10 screws, which attach front panel to the bottom section (right, left and backside)

Lift front panel carefully

4

Unplug cables connecting front panel to bottom section

X1 and X6 on TT-1781, X31 on TT-1778, earth connector from TT-1783)

5

Put aside front panel.

Power Supply

Power supply is divided into 2 parts:

• Power supply unit generates 15V DC from mains supply.

• Voltage control TT-1778 generates additionally +5V, +/-12V and +/-15V. On power fail, it switches to

accumulator power controlled by a signal from the IO2 card.

Remove

Unplug mains supply

Remove fuse near accumulator

Unscrew 5 screws from PCB TT-1778, unplug 4 power supply lines

Flap PCB towards back panel

Power supply unit is attached to retaining bracket by 3 screws. Unfasten screws and tear power

supply to front side.

Unfasten connections and demount cables, cut cable ties if necessary.

Install

Attach power lines; take care on colors

brown=L, blue=N, green/yellow=earth, red=V+, white=V-

Attach power supply with 3 screws to retaining bracket

Attach PCB TT-1778 to designated position

4

Plug in power lines to PCB TT-1778: red +15V, violet B+, both white to GND

Do not forget to insert fuse near accumulator

Adjust Output Voltages

For proper operation of the console the output voltages have to be adjusted carefully.

Procedure

Power supply unit has to be installed and connected properly

All assemblies must be properly in place and fixed, no loose parts should be visible

Plug jaguar to mains supply and switch on power

Breakpoints for measuring voltage are mounted on PCB TT-1778 (5V, +12V, -12V, +15V, -15V)

All voltages are related to GND.

On PCB TT-1778, adjust 5V supply voltage to 5,25V, +/- 0,05V by potentiometer RP1,

Refer to figure 2 on page 8.

Adjust +15V directly on power supply with a precision of +/- 0,2V

Accumulator

The accumulator is responsible for power in case of power fail. jaguar saves all show data to the hard disk

before it is switched off.

Procedure for Exchange

Unplug mains supply

Unfasten 4 screw and demount attachment device

Exchange accumulator, fix it by the attachment device

Tighten attachment device by 4 screws

Connect power lines to TT-1778 (violet to B+, white to GND)

Remove

Unplug mains supply.

Detach nuts from screws on filter, remove filter unit.

Unplug power lines to power supply unit.

Unplug earth connector

Plug in cables one by one onto new filter to avoid mistakes.

Install

Plug in earth and mains lines

Put in mains filter and attach it with screws.

To assure earth connection you have to insert lock washers between filter and jaguar chassis

Change Mains Fuses

Fuse can be changed without opening console

There are two fuses, one for power and one for ground.

Procedure

Unplug mains supply

On rear side, open cover below mains switch

Change fuses, Type T 3,15A

Never short fuses or use fuses with higher values.

Remove

Take care on electric charges

For handling of CPU board please refer to instructions on page 6

To avoid mix up on installation care for clear labeling of cables connected to the CPU

Unplug all cables, if necessary, unfasten screws

Unfasten 6 screws to base panel

Unlock and remove RAM-module, will be used again

Install

Insert CPU-card and attach it by 6 screws

Insert RAM module, verify locking

Plug in all cables

Notice red marking of flat cables.

Procedure

Remove fastening screws

Disconnect fan power from CPU

Insert new fan and fasten it with four screws

Do not press onto the fan. Fan bearing might be damaged.

Connect fan power to CPU

Remove

Unplug all cables

Unfasten 10 screws M3 from back panel and remove PCBs

Lower PCB TT-1965: same procedure, additionally you have to remove screws from XLR-connectors

Install

Mount PCB to thread pins and fasten it by screws M3.

Plug in all connectors

PCB TT-1965: Do not forget screws for XLR-connectors from back panel

Hard Disk

Remove

Unplug flat cable (notice red marking) and power lines

Unfasten 4 screws attaching the hard disk unit to the assembly and take it out.

Install

Attach hard disk unit by 4 screws to assembly

Plug in flat cable (notice red marking on cable) and power lines.

If the hard disk is completely new, DOS and jaguar software have to be installed. See page 30

Unplug flat cable (note red marking) and power cable from drive

Remove assembly by unfastening 2 screws on rear plane

Unfasten 4 screws attaching the hard disk unit to the assembly and take it out.

Install

Attach floppy disk unit by 4 screws to assembly

Attach assembly to rear plane by 2 screws

Plug in flat cable (notice red marking on cable) and power lines.

Care for proper connection, connectors may be shifted

Dongle

If you have to exchange the dongle you additionally have to change the dongle code. If you do not provide the

appropriate dongle code jaguar will only run in demo mode. Some skill running DOS commands and running the

DOS editor are helpful. But be careful:
