#6-1888 TWIN BAG GRASS CATCHER KIT for
SNAPPER LAWN TRACTOR MODELS with 38” DECKS
This grass catcher kit fits Lawn Tractor Series “A” & Later Models with 38” Decks. Adapter Kit #6-1334 must be
installed to the Lawn Tractor before this grass catcher can be installed. Install adapter kit as described by
instructions provided with kit. Some pre-assembly steps may be required on specific lawn tractors before the
initial installation of the grass catcher. These steps will be described in this instruction.
STEP 1: To determine the horse power and series
designation of your lawn tractor, locate the serial/model
identification decal on the tractor. The decal is located at
the rear of the tractor. See Figure 1. The identification of
the model will be used in certain steps in this instruction.
The most important information needed from this decal
is: 1) Series of tractor, 2) Horse power of engine.

engine. Remove spark plug wire from spark
plug and secure wire away from spark plug. Engine
and components can be extremely hot. Avoid burns
by allowing engine and components sufficient time to
cool.
IMPORTANT: This kit contains bolt on type air lifts
and high lift type blades. Lawn Tractors with
engines that produce 14 horse power or more can
use the high lift
blades or bolt on type air lifts.
Lawn Tractors with engines that produce less than
14 horse power must use bolt on type air lifts only.
DO NOT
use the high lift type blades on lawn
tractors with engines that produce less than
14 horse power.

STEP 2A: Air Lift Installation. Engines that produce
less than 14 horse power. Remove existing blades
from mower. Install air lifts to the tips of blades using
nuts and bolts supplied with kit. Be certain to install lifts
to both ends of both blades. Torque nuts and bolts to 20
to 30 ft. lbs. on air lifts. Using existing hardware, reinstall
blades to mower deck. Torque blade retaining bolts to 80
to 90 ft. lbs. See Figure 2A.
FIGURE 2A
STEP 3: Baffle Installation (Optional)
Note: The baffle installation may not be required for all
mowing applications. It is recommended that the baffle
be installed if the following conditions exist; if operator is
bagging grass in extremely dry conditions, is
experiencing excessive debris blow out from the front of
deck or is bagging leaves.
Mounting holes will have to be drilled to mount baffle to
the front of deck. Remove the two nuts that secure the
left wheel bracket. Place the baffle onto bracket bolts
and reinstall nuts onto bolts to hold baffle in position. Do
not completely tighten at this time. NOTE: If there are
two existing holes in deck it will not be necessary to drill
new holes. Make sure bottom of deck is parallel to
bottom of baffle and support in place with c-clamp or
similar tool. Use both holes in baffle as a reference,
mark the deck for drilling. Drill holes in deck using a
11/32 drill. Insert the 5/16 x 3/4” hex cap screws from
underneath deck to the outside, through baffle, and
secure with 11/32” washers and 5/16 hex lock nuts.
Tighten all nuts securely. See Figure 3.
FIGURE 3
IMPORTANT: On 1996 model and earlier model (Series
“A”, “B”, “C”) Lawn Tractors it will be necessary to drill
holes in the adapter to mount the adapter to the deck. It
will also be necessary to remove certain parts from deck
to mount adapter. Go to STEP 4A for 1997 & later model
(Series “D” & Later) Lawn Tractors.
STEP 4: Adapter Installation. Remove the front and
rear gage wheels located on the right side of tractor. The
right side as viewed from operator’s position. Save
retaining hardware and gage wheels for future use. It will
be necessary to raise the tractor to gain access to the
underside of deck. Use a hydraulic floor jack or hoist to
raise tractor high enough to gain access to the underside
of deck. Secure tractor with safety blocks. Remove the
discharge chute. See Figure 4. STEP 4 is continued on
next page.

adapter and the deck flange as a reference point. Use
holes in deck as shown in Figure 5 to mark areas on
adapter to be drilled. Drill holes in adapter using a 11/32
drill. Mount adapter to deck using 5/16 x 1” carriage bolts
5/16 flat washers and 5/16 wing nuts. Tighten nuts
securely. Remove mounting strap from adapter, it will
not be used on these tractors. See Figure 5. Go to STEP
5 to continue set up for these model year tractors.
FIGURE 5
NOTE: On 1997 & later model (Series “D” & Later) Lawn
Tractors the adapter to deck is installed as follows.
STEP 4A: Adapter Installation – Series D & later.
Install 5/16 x 5/8” screw through hole from the underside
of deck. Insert washer and “T” nut from the outside as
shown. Tighten securely. See Figure 6. Raise the
discharge deflector on the mower deck and position
adapter over opening. Place slotted opening at the rear
of adapter over “T” nut located on deck. Slide adapter
forward to lock in place. See Figure 6.
STEP 4B: Use mounting strap to secure front of
adapter by hooking to the gage wheel bracket and hook
other strap to the deck flange as shown. See Figure 7.
IMPORTANT: The following steps are the same for all
model Lawn Tractors.
STEP 5: Adapter Kit Installation. Install Adapter Kit
#6-1334 per instructions supplied with kit. See Figure 8.
