Vertiv™ EPIV Kits for Liebert® CRV CW Units User Manual
1 Product Overview
1.1 Electronic Pressure Independent Valve (EPIV) overview
The EPIV (Electronic Pressure Independent Valve) is an optional kit for Vertiv™ CRV Chilled Water Units that automatically
balances pressure changes and fluctuations in the water system to maintain a constant water flow output.
CRV CW units are from the factory equipped with a standard field adjustable 3-way/2-way chilled water flow control valve with
an actuator. If the installation requires a pressure independent control valve, Vertiv offers a field installed EPIV kit which can
be installed outside of the unit on the chilled water piping. This manual describes the installation of these kits.
Vertiv™ Liebert CRV CW units utilize BEMILO EP..R2+BAC series EPIV. The main technical specifications are as follows.

1.2 EPIV Kits Selection
It is important to select the right EPIV valve size for your installation. The size of the EPIV valve depends on the water flow
through your Liebert CRV unit. When selecting your EPIV kit, please make sure that the water flow rate of your installed CRV
is within the maximum limits of the valve kit.
The default setting maximum flow rate V'max for the EPIV is equal to V'nom. If you install a Liebert CRV unit with a maximum
water flow rate less than V'nom of the EPIV, then you can reset V'max to the maximum flow rate you need.
The EPIV maximum flow rate is settable from 25% to 100% of V'nom. the table below provides the maximum range of flow rate
that can be set for each valve size.

2 Mechanical Installation
2.1 Installation Specification of EPIV
Recommendations for the installation requirements of the EPIV are as follows.
Flow direction. The direction of flow, specified by an arrow on the housing, is to be complied with, since otherwise the flow
rate will be measured incorrectly.
Installation direction. The ball valve can be installed upright to horizontal. The ball valve may not be installed in a hanging
position, i.e. with the spindle pointing downwards.
Figure 2.1 Installation direction of the EPIV
Inlet section. In order to achieve the specified measuring accuracy, a flow-calming section or inflow section in the direction of
the flow is to be provided upstream from the flow sensor. Its dimensions should be at least 5x DN.

2.3 Mechanical Installation
The EPIV is recommended to be installed on the outlet side of the CRV CW unit, as close to the unit as possible.
Figure 2.8 Installation location of the EPIV
NOTE: According to the connection thread specifications of the EPIV, the connection thread specifications and copper
pipe specifications of the CRV CW units, select the appropriate threaded fittings, adapters, or reducers for
connection. These accessories are not included with the CW units and EPIV kits. These fittings and reducers will be
provided by installer based on the piping and EPIV used on site.
2.4 Standard Valves Adjustment of CRV CW Units
If the EPIV kit is selected and installed in the CRV CW unit, the three-way valve and manual shut-off valve that comes
standard with the CW unit will need to be adjusted.
lCheck and confirm that the manual shut-off valve is fully closed. The manual shut-off valve is closed when the handle
is perpendicular to the piping line. If the manual shut-off valve is open, rotate the handle in clockwise direction to the
closed position. Please see the figure 2.9 for the location of the manual shut-off valve.
lCheck and confirm that the electric three-way valve is fully open. The three-way valve is open when the handle is
parallel to the piping line. If the electric three-way valve is closed, press the button and rotate the handle in
counterclockwise direction to the open position. Please see the figure 2.9 for the location of the electric three-way
valve.
NOTE: Manual operation of the handle of the electric three-way valve must be evenly and slowly, and make sure it
takes more than 10s to switch the whole process, otherwise it will be possible to damage the actuator.
NOTE: Do not supply power to the electric three-way valve after the valve is opened manually, otherwise the valve
may be reset to the closed state.

3 Electrical Installation
After the mechanical installation, the wiring connections of the original three-way valve and flowmeter need to be removed,
and then the wirings of the new EPIV valve need to be connected. This chapter describes the wiring procedure for the new
EPIV valves and CRV CW units.
3.1 CRV CRC30 Unit
Ensure that the unit is powered off. Open the rear door and remove the air filters, follow the cables of the electric three-way
valve and flowmeter, and find their respective white butt terminals. Unplug the butt terminals of the electric three-way valve
and flowmeter to disable the standard valve and flowmeter.
NOTE: Please take care to mark and protect these disconnected terminals to avoid confusion or misuse by others
during maintenance.
Pull out the main electrical box and remove the cover, the layout of electrical box is shown in Figure 3.1. Remove the original
electric three-way valve connector J15 and flowmeter connector J24 from the iCOM Edge Controller, the position of the J15
and J24 connectors is shown in figure 3.2.

Using the attached new cables, connect the new EPIV valve wirings. Connect the J15 and J24 connectors of the attached
cable to the corresponding iCOM Edge Controller ports, then plug the other end of the cable into the connector of the EPIV
cable.
According to the marking of the terminal block, connect the G1&241 of the attached cable to the reserved terminals (G1, 241)
of the terminal block to ensure 24V power supply to the EPIV valve. The terminal block of CRC30 unit is shown in figure 3.3.

cable.
According to the marking of the terminal block, connect the G1&241 of the attached cable to the reserved terminals (GND,
24V) of the terminal block to ensure 24V power supply to the EPIV valve. The terminal block of CRC60 unit is shown in figure

4 HMI Setting
After all the EPIV kit installation, the water flow high limit needs to be reset on the HMI. After the device is powered on, enter
the third-level password to access the HMI and to set it.
lReset the flow high limit on the HMI. Touch the Main Menu icon, choose Maintenance >> CW valve Settings >> CW
Flow High Limit, enter the new flow high limit based on the rated flow of the installed EPIV kit. Please see the rated
flow are shown in table 1.2 and the default value are shown in the table 4.1.

NOTE: The purpose of setting the Water Flow High Limit in the HMI is only for the Liebert CRV device to detect a
more accurate flow value, it does not represent the V'max of the EPIV.
NOTE: The V'max of the EPIV cannot be set by the HMI of the CRV unit, it must be set by Belimo Assistant App or
other Belimo tools. For the more details about the Belimo EPIV, please contact Vertiv support.

Appendices
Appendix A: Minimum Pressure Drop Calculation for EPIV
A.1 Minimum differential pressure (pressure drop)
The minimum required differential pressure (pressure drop through the valve) for achieving the desired volumetric flow V'max
can be calculated with the aid of the theoretical Kvs value and the below-mentioned formula. The calculated value is
dependent on the required maximum volumetric flow V'max. Higher differential pressures are compensated for automatically
by the valve
.Formula to calculate minimum pressure drop:
NOTE: Please see table 1.1 in Chapter 1 for the Kvs theor.
A.2 Behavior in case of sensor failure
In case of a flow sensor error, the EPIV will switch from flow control to position control. Once the error disappears, the EPIV will
switch back to the normal control setting.
