BATTERY HEATER KIT INSTALLATION

Tools Required:
– M10 box end wrench or M10 socket and ratchet wrench
– P1 Phillips screw driver or 3/16th flat screw driver
WARNING
Unit must be removed from service during this installation. Only
qualified technicians should perform this installation. Failure
to follow proper procedure could result in bodily injury and/or
electrocution.
1. Move ATS control module switch to OFF position. Module
located on home standby control panel.
2. Move Engine control module switch to OFF position. Module
located on home standby control panel.
3. Move exercise switch to OFF position. Switch located on home
standby control panel.
4. Disconnect 240VAC from automatic transfer switch by opening
circuit breaker in main panel.
5. Disconnect batteries (positive lead first) and remove from
battery compartment.
6. Remove electrical access panel (6 bolts) to gain access to
electrical compartment.
7. Locate wire harness from heater kit and install the 2 fork
terminals onto the battery charger load and neutral terminals.
Make certain battery heater and battery charger power wires
are fully inserted to load and neutral terminals then tighten
hold down screws. See illustration below. Route wire harness
down and forward under the front edge of the electronics panel.
Excess harness should be placed behind electronics panel.
8. Place heater mat in battery compartment with Champion logo
facing up and electrical connector pointing toward the rear
of the compartment. Assemble the heater and wire harness
mating connectors.
9. Carefully reinstall the batteries on top of the heater mat.
10. Reinstall electrical access panel. Note the 2 short bolts are used
on the top of the panel.
11. Reconnect the batteries, positive lead first.
12. Enable 240VAC to automatic transfer switch by closing circuit
breaker in main panel.
13. Move engine control switch to ATS position.
14. Move ATS control switch to AUTO position.
CAUTION
If desired, the exercise switch can be moved to the ON position
at this time but note the engine will start and run for 15 minutes
and exercise time will be set for this time each week. See
owner’s manual for setting exercise time if a different time is
desired.
