1. SAFETY
DANGER! - Beware, Misusing or incorrectly connecting the SOYOND
DPI may damage the equipment or create hazardous conditions for
users. Read the following safety instructions and pay special attention
to all Caution and Warning statements in the guide. Warnings identify
conditions that may result in personal injury and lose of life. Cautions
identify conditions or practices that may damage the unit or other
equipment.
KEEP AWAY from children. DPI series inverter generates the same potentially
lethal AC power as a normal household wall outlets. Treat it with the same
repect that you would any AC outlets.
DO NOT insert any objects into AC outlets or fan hole.
DO NOT expose the DPI150/300 to water, rain, snow or spray.
DO NOT connect DPI150/300 to power utility AC distribution wiring under any
circumstances.
DPI150/300 housing may become uncomfortably warm, reaching 140° F (60° C)
underextended high power operation.
DO NOT use DPI150/300 in the presence of flammable fumes or gases, such as
in the bilge of a gasoline powered boat, or near propane tanks.
DO NOT use the in an enclosure containing automotive-type, lead-acid batteries.
These batteries, unlike sealed batteries, vent explosive hydrogen gas, which can
be ignited by sparks from electrical connections.
DO NOT replace any vehicle fuse with a rating higher than recommended by the
Vehicle Manufacturer. Ensure that the electrical system in your vehicle
can supply this product without causing the vehicle fusing to open. Information
on the vehicle fuse rating is typically found in the vehicle operator’s manual. If a
vehicle fuse opens repeatedly, do not keep on replacing it. The cause of the
overload must be found. On no account should fuses be patched up with tin foil
or wire as this may cause serious damage elsewhere in the electrical circuit or
cause fire.
CAUTION: Some chargers for small nickel-cadmium batteries can be damaged
if connected to DPI150/300.
DO NOT use the inverter with the following appliances:
• Small battery-operated appliances like rechargeable flashlights, some
rechargeable shavers, and night lights that are plugged directly into an AC
receptacle to recharge.
• Battery chargers used in hand power tools. These chargers display a warning
label stating that dangerous voltages are present at the charger battery terminals.
SAFETY FEATURES
• Overload protection with automatic shutdown
• Low battery voltage shutdown
• High-input voltage protection with automatic shutdown
• Overheat protection with automatic shutdown
• Output short circuit protection.
ENSURE at least 2 inches of air space is all sides of DPI150/300 during operation.
KEEP AWAY from materials that may be affected by high temperatures.
DPI150 and DPI300 is capable of continuously powering most 110 volt AC
products that use 120W and 240W or less. Its AC output waveform is modified sine
wave, is designed to function similarly to the sine wave shape of utility power. Most
AC products rated for 120W and 240W or less will operate normally with DPI150
and DPI300.
The power or wattage rating of AC products is the average power they use. When
many AC products are first switched on, the initially consume more power than their
power rating. TVs, monitors and electric motors are examples of products that have
high surge power as high as 300W and 600W. Ocaasionally some products rated
less than 120W and 240W may exceed its surge capabilities and trigger its safety
overload shutdown feature.
>>Indicators controls and connectors
● An AC outlets is provided on one end of the inverter. A 110-volt AC products with
a continuous power consumption of 120W and 240W or less can be plugged in.
● The inverter receiveds its operating power through its DC plug that fits standard
vehicle cigarette lighter sockets and 12-volt power outlets.
● The ON/OFF switch enables output AC power at the AC outlet when switch on.
● The green POWER light indicates AC power is present at AC outlet and the
inverters operates normally.
● The red FAULT light indicates inverter shutdown caused by low or high battery
voltage, overload or excessive temperature.
>>Inverter operation
● Plug the inverter DC plug into a vehicle’s cigarette lighter or 12V outlet.
● Turn the AC products you need to operate the AC outlet and switch it on. As
the battery charge issued up battery voltage will begin to fall. When inverter
senses the voltage at its DC input has dropped to 10.7V then audio warning.
When input voltage drop to 10.0V this inverter will automatically shut down to
prevent battery over discharge. The RED fault light illuminates.
2. USING DPI
● If the inverter exceeds a safe operation temperature due to insufficient ventilation
or a high temperature environment, it will automatically shut down. Then RED
fault light will turn on.
● In the event of overload, low battery voltage or overheating. The inverter will
automatically shut down.
CAUTION! Although the inverter has protection against over voltage, it may still
be damaged if the input voltage exceeds 16V.
>>Interference with electronic equipment
Generally most AC products are operated by inverter just as they are driven by
household AC power. Below is information concerning two possible exceptions.
(1) Buzz sound in audio systems
Some inexpensive stereo system and boom box have inadequate internal power
supply filtering and buzz slightly when powered by the inverter.
(2) TV signals interferred
The inverter is shielded to minimize interference with TV signals. However there
will still weak signals interference maybe visible in the form of lines scrolling
across the screen.
>>Interference solution
● Use an extension cord to increase distance between inverter and TV.
● Adjust the direction of the inverter, antenna and cables.
● Maximize TV signal strength by using a better antenna and use shielded antenna
cable if possible.
● Try a different TV model. Different models televisions vary considerably in their
susceptibility to interference.
>>Battery operating time
When using the DPI150/ DPI300 inverter, operating time will vary depending on
the charge level of battery. Its capacity and the power level drawn by particular
AC load. With a typical vehicle battery and a 50 watts load(such as a portable
stereo/CD player), an operating time of 5-6 hours or more could be expected.
When using a vehicle battery as a power source, it is strongly recommended
to start the vehicle every hour or two to recharge the battery before its capacity
drops too low. The inverter can operate while the engine is running. But the
normal voltage drop that occurs during starting mant trigger the inverter’s low
voltage shutdown feature.
3. TROUBLESHOOTING
● Problem: AC products will not operate. No inverter lights ON.
● Problem: Measured inverter output is too low
Possible cause:
Poor contact with lighter
socket or 12 volt outlet
(1) Lighter socket or 12
volt outlet may reuquire
ignition to be switched on
(2) Cigarette lighter or
12volt outlet fuse is blown
Inverter unit has been
connected with reverse
DC input polarity
Check vehicle fuses and replace
blown fuse with correct value
Probable inverter damage has
occured. Have unit repaired.
Suggestion:
Press plug firmly into socket.
Clean plug or socket if necessary
Turn key to accessory position
3.
Possible cause:
Standard “average
reading”AC voltmeter
used to measure output
voltage, resulting in an
apparent reading 5 to
15 V too low.
Suggestion:
Inverter’s “modified sine wave”
output requires “true RMS”
voltmeter for accurate measurements.
Possible cause:
AC product power
comsunption is higher
than rated
Suggestion:
Use a large battery to make up
for increased power requirement
Possible cause:
AC product(s) connected
are rated at more than
the inverter’s continuous
power rating; overload
shutdown has occurred.
Suggestion:
Use a product with a power
rating less than the inverter’s
continuous power rating.
Battery voltage is too
low
Recharge the battery
Battery is old or defective
Battery is not being
properly charged
Replace battery.
Have a vehicle electrial system
checked by a qualified technician
● Problem: Battery run time is less than expected
● Problem: AC product will not operate, red FAULT light ON
