EZRest BackRest
tm
The EZRest is a trimmed-down version of our
famous Classic and Sprint BackRests. The
EZRest offers many of the same feature, but
at a much lower cost. The EZRest has a
black powder coated finish, a fixed frame,
and a wide range of back pad adjustments.
EZRest is designed for use by the Passenger
on any motorcycle that has a BestRest
CargoRest. (R1150R Roadster shown)
EZRest is also designed for use on the
R11xxGS with the stock passenger grab rail.
A CargoRest is NOT required for this
application, but may still be used if desired.
Thank you for purchasing a BestRest
BackRest! We’re confident it’ll improve your
riding comfort and expand your riding
adventures. If you have problems with
installation or operation of the EZRest please
call us at the number on the letterhead.
Ride safe and God Bless!

FOR PROPER INSTALLATION & SAFE
OPERATION, PLEASE READ ALL OF
THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Unpack the EZRest BackRest Assembly and
parts package. You’ll find the following parts:
Qty Description Fits model
4 M5x20 button head screws All
8 #10 flat washers All
4 M5 nylon locknuts All
1 3mm hex “allen” wrench All
1 5mm hex “allen” wrench All
2 M5x35 button head screws R11xxGS
4 #10 flat washers R11xxGS
2 M5 nylon locknuts R11xxGS
Additional tools needed for installation:
1 – 8mm open end wrench (in your toolkit)
1 – 10mm open end wrench (in your toolkit)
After installation is complete, you’ll want to
keep the 10mm box wrench and 5mm allen
wrench handy for BackRest adjustments
when you’re on the road. You may wish to
purchase BestRest’s 5mm HexKeyRing, it’s
only ¾” long and fits on your motorcycle key
ring. Cost is $10.
Note: We recommend use of a semi-
permanent thread-locking compound on all
screws and nuts. “Blue Thread Lock” or a
similar product will prevent screws from
loosening due to vibration. Do NOT use
permanent (red) compounds.
Installing the EZRest - on a CargoRest
To install the EZRest for passenger use, you
must have previously installed a BestRest
CargoRest. Refer to your CargoRest FitKit
for instructions on how to properly mount the
CargoRest. All 3 models of CargoRest (C, J,
and T) will work with the EZ Rest. Installation
procedures are the same for all models.
Place the EZRest on the CargoRest. The
cutout will fit over the BestRest logo, and the
4 holes on the bottom will line up with the
holes in the CargoRest.
Insert a 5mm screw (with washer) into each
of these four holes. The screws will pass thru
the CargoRest and FitKit mounting plate.
Attach a flat washer and a 5mm nylon locknut
to the ends of these screws, from the
underside. Tighten securely. Complete the
final tightening process by turning the nut
from the underside - if you turn the hex head
you’ll strip the socket. Use common sense
and do not over-tighten.
Installation is complete!
Installing the EZRest – on the R11xxGS
The EZRest will fit on the R11xxGS, with the
stock luggage rack or with a CargoRest.
If mounting the EZRest onto a CargoRest,
follow the instructions above. Then screw the
EZRest to the grab rail, following the
instructions in the following paragraphs.
If you don’t have a CargoRest on your GS,
the stock passenger grab rail must be in
place. Check that the 6mm screws holding
the grab rail are tight. The grab rail must not
wiggle or otherwise be loose.
Above photo shows the stock luggage rack
and passenger grab rail. Make sure these
two screws are tight. They hold the rail in
place and also hold up the taillight assembly.
Hint: To protect the finish on your stock
luggage rack and grab rail, we suggest
Check

Note: On some early production CargoRests, it
may be necessary to drill two additional ¼”
holes in the CargoRest. A drilling template has
been provided so hole placement is made easy.
Warning: The M5 screws and nuts should
be checked on a frequent (daily) basis to
confirm they’re secure, since they hold
the BackRest in place on the motorcycle.
Loose screws could result in vehicle
damage or Rider/Passenger injury.

placing some black electrician’s tape on the
silver rack and rail BEFORE you screw down
the EZRest. The tape acts as a cushion and
can easily be removed when the EZRest is
removed.
Place the EZRest on the stock rack so it’s in
contact with the grab rail. The holes on the
rear of the EZRest will line up with the
rectangular slots on the rear of the luggage
rack. The holes on the vertical frame of the
EZRest will line up with the rectangular slots
in the grab rail.
Place 5x30 mm screws (with washers) thru
the two holes in the grab rail.
Place 5x20 mm screws (with washers) thru
the two holes at the rear. Place washers and
nuts on the ends of all 4 screws and tighten
securely. Complete the final tightening
process by turning the nuts from the
underside - if you only turn the hex head
you’ll strip the socket.
Hole Drilling Template
Some early production models of CargoRests
do not have all 4 holes necessary for
mounting an EZRest. If your CargoRest
needs additional holes, use the enclosed
template.
Cut out the template and tape it in place it on
the CargoRest. Carefully mark the location of
the holes using a punch or nail. Carefully drill
through the CargoRest using a 1/8” drill bit.
Then enlarge the holes, using a ¼” drill bit.
If the CargoRest is already mounted on the
motorcycle, make sure you don’t drill too far
or you’ll damage your taillight. Clean up the
holes then place the EZRest over the
CargoRest, and refer to the above
paragraphs for installation.
Adjusting the EZRest BackRest
Here’s a series of photos showing the range
of motion of the EZRest:
Low
Medium
High
The patented EZRest is adjustable. As you
examine the various assemblies, you’ll see
how easy it is to adjust the height, angle and
pitch for your comfort and riding style. While
the EZRest lacks some of the more
sophisticated features of the Classic and
Sprint versions of the BackRest, it still retains
the ability to adjust to nearly every condition.
Adjustments to the BackRest should never be
attempted when operating the motorcycle. If
adjustments are needed, come to a complete
stop, turn off the ignition and secure the
motorcycle against tipping or falling. Make
any required adjustments, then tighten all
screws, fittings and fasteners. Before
resuming travel, inspect carefully to ensure
all parts are in place and properly secured.
To change the angle or height of the
BackPad:
1. Using the hex wrench and a 10mm
spanner, loosen the eight M6
screws holding the four SwingArms,
adjust the angle as needed, and
tighten.
2. Note that as the BackPad is moved
thru its arc of rotation the pad moves
up/down as well as forward/back,
always staying parallel to the
BackPlate.
To change the elevation of the BackPad:
1. Remove the eight M6 nuts and
screws.
2. A nylon washer is located between
the swing arms and the frame to
prevent damage to the powder
coated finish – don’t lose them!
3. Move the BackPad up/down along
the BackPlate to the required height.
Replace the washers, M6 screws
and locknuts and tighten securely.
To change the “forward reach” of the
BackPad:
1. The swing arms have three holes,
you can use any two holes per bar
2. Remove the screws and replace
them in another set of holes
3. Changing screw holes will affect the
forward and rearward range of the
BackPad
4. You can combine a different set of
holes for the upper and lower bars
to achieve changes in the pitch of
the BackPad
Remember to tighten all nuts and screws every
time you make an adjustment! Failure to
tighten may result in unexpected movement!
Check all screws daily to make sure they’re tight!
The screws and nuts should be checked on a
frequent (daily) basis to confirm they’re secure,
since they hold the BackRest in place on the
motorcycle. Loose screws could result in the
EZRest coming loose, causing vehicle damage

Changing the four SwingArms from their
factory setting (parallelogram) to a trapezoid
allows the BackPad to change pitch as it
moves up or down in its arc of motion. You
can experiment with these settings to get
exactly the configuration you require.
To change the FRONT pivot points:
1. Remove the screws, nuts and
washers
2. There’s a washer between the
BackPad frame and the main
BackRest frame - it protects the
finish - don’t lose it !
3. Relocate the screws to another set
of holes
4. Be careful to replace all the washers
as they were originally installed –
they protect the finish of the EZRest
Helpful Hints:
If you make frequent adjustments to your
EZRest, you may need to occasionally
replace the nylon locknuts. The nylon inserts
will eventually wear down and will no longer
grip the screw tightly and won’t have the
gripping qualities of new nylon locknuts. You
may purchase replacement nylon locknuts
from BestRest for a nominal fee, plus
postage.
You can strap duffels and other gear against
the Sprint BackRest. Use common sense to
avoid excessive loading.
Caring For Your BackRest:
The BackRest assembly and the mounting
hardware are made from high quality steel,
finished with a wrinkled, UV resistant, black
powder coated polyester finish. Wash with
mild detergent and water. Touchup of minor
blemishes may be done with black marker
pen or black, high quality automotive enamel
such as Krylon.
Do not use abrasives, solvents, or harsh
chemicals when washing or cleaning. Do not
use paste wax or other coatings that leave a
whitish residue when they dry. We
recommend ‘Mother’s Back-To-Black’ and
‘Protect-All’ brand products, or similar
solutions.
Wash the Sprint BackRest with a solution of
mild detergent and water. Use common
sense and apply water sparingly so it doesn’t
penetrate the seams or saturate the padding
of the BackPad. A plastic bag over the
BackPad is a good idea.
While it’s OK to leave the BackRest exposed
to the elements for short periods, we strongly
suggest protecting your investment with a
tarpaulin or other covering, or park your bike
inside, away from acid rain and UV rays.
Do not use penetrating agents or solvents
since they may attack the nylon inserts on the
locknuts.
