Firmware Update through Ethernet
Version: 1.0.6
Update: Nov.02, 2011
Reminder
The code (in the boot loader) used to update the firmware image is not part of the firmware
it-self. Thus, users can update the firmware even the built-in one is broken or does not
exist. If the firmware update fails, we just need to rerun the update procedures again.
Firmware Update through the Ethernet
1. Connect the tM-752N to the same HUB or same sub-network as your PC.
Do not connect it to a router or Internet that may cause the update failure.
2. Run the eSearch Utility to search tM-752N. Right click on the name
of the module and select “Firmware Update”.
If the above IP address does not work correctly (for example, it does not response to
the ping command), please contact with your network administrator to get a valid IP
address for the tM-752N.
Note: The tM-752N may use a user-defined MAC address if you have defined it via
web configuration. When updating firmware, the tM-752N is always using factory-
setting MAC address. Thus, the displayed MAC address above may not what we want.
If so, please check the factory MAC address in the eflash.exe window as step 4. You
can also restore the MAC address to factory setting via web configuration first.
3. Select the firmware file that will be updated, and then click OK

5. Set the “Init Switch” of the tM-752N in “Init” state.
6. Power-on reboot the tM-752N in initial mode to request the update.
Note: The “BOOTPREQ from MAC: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx” message shows which module
is asking for update the firmware. The MAC address above is the factory-setting one.
The update procedure will not actually run if you assign a user-defined MAC address in
the eflash parameter. If so, please modify your “update.bat” to use the correct factory-
setting MAC address and then try again.
7. Set the “Init Switch” in "Run" state after the update is finished as shown “100%”.
8. Reboot the tM-752N module for running in normal mode.
9. Run the VxComm Utility to search the tM-752N again to see if it is working now.
If the firmware does not work (for example, the module has no response to the search,
or the system LED is always off), please download a new firmware image from our web
and then update it again.
10. Login (default password is “admin”) to the web configuration of the tM-752N to
check the firmware version/date.

Addition Introduction
The tM-752N series supports firmware update through the Ethernet network via
BOOTP/TFTP protocol. It gets firmware image and obtains IP address assigned by user
through the eflash.exe utility program.
Note: When updating firmware, the tM-752N series uses factory MAC address instead of
user-defined MAC address.
The tM-752N has a built-in feature of flash protection that prohibits modification to the
firmware in the flash. Before updating the firmware, we have to set Init Switchin Init
state and then power-on reboot the tM-752N and disable the flash protection. Since the
flash becomes writable, we can update the firmware through the Ethernet network.
Notes:
1. Well configure the network settings of your computer or the update procedures through
the Ethernet network may not work correctly.
2. The eflash.exe program (TFTP server) may not run correctly if there is another TFTP
server running on the same computer.
3. RFC-951 defines BOOTP (Bootstrap Protocol, uses UDP port 67 and 68).
4. RFC-1350 defines TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol, uses UDP port 69).
