INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The FBR-1GE2LX-SFP is a three-port unmanaged switch, with one UTP 10/100/1000 Ethernet
interface and two SFP based optical interfaces. The FBR-1GE2LX-SFP is ideal for optical daisy-chain
applications as an add-drop multiplexer, where multiple devices, such as IP cameras, share a single fiber
link. The unit uses industry standard Small Form-Factor, Pluggable (SFP) modules for connecting to the
fiber media. Proper Aventura Technologies approved SFP modules are selected by the customer to
accommodate the type and number of fibers, as well as the transmission distance for each link.
The FBR-1GE2LX-SFP converts a single 10/100/1000base-T/TX Ethernet input to an optical fiber
output and transmits it over one of the two fiber links, based on the address of the destination device.
The FBR-1GE2LX-SFP converts any packet received from either optical link and addressed to the IP
address of a device connected to the unit’s UTP port, to a single 10/100/1000base-T/TX Ethernet output.
The FBR-1GE2LX-SFP also passes through any packet received from either fiber link to the other fiber
link, based on the destination address.
The FBR-1GE2LX-SFP is configured to auto-negotiate the data rate on the UTP Ethernet port to either
10, 100, or 1000 Mbps and operating mode to either full or half-duplex. Additionally, the unit is
configured to perform the MDI/MDIX sensing and switching automatically. This feature allows for the
use of standard, straight through patch cords, without regard to the configuration (MDI or MDIX) of the
device the FBR-1GE2LX-SFP unit is connected to.
The data rate on the optical port of the FBR-1GE2LX-SFP is always 1000Mbps, full-duplex.
The FBR-1GE2LX-SFP can operate with two different SFP modules at the same time. This feature
allows the unit to interconnect two different fiber infrastructure types (e.g. convert a single fiber,
multimode, connection to a two-fiber, single mode connection.)
This unit is contained in a compact and rugged steel housing with internal dc voltage regulation. The
detachable terminal block and LED indicators provide for easy installation and monitoring of Ethernet,
optical link, and dc power status.
The unit operates as either a surface mounted, modular, stand-alone device, or within a rack mounted
card cage.
INSTALLATION
THE INSTALLATION OF THIS UNIT SHOULD BE MADE BY A QUALIFIED SERVICE
PERSON(S) AND MUST CONFORM TO ALL LOCAL CODES.
The physical outline and front/rear panel configuration of the unit is detailed in Figure 2.
Mount the unit to a secure surface using #8 (3mm) hardware in two places. See Figure 3 for a full size
mounting template. Be sure to allow sufficient room for the required minimum bend radius of the fiber
cable used.
