Mounting
Appropriatemountingisveryimportantfortheprolongedlifeexpectancyofanyamplier.Selectalocationthatallowsenough
spacesosucientairowismaintainableandalocationthatprovidesprotectionfrommoisture.Keepinmindthatanamplier
shouldneverbemountedupsidedown.Upsidedownmountingwillcompromiseheatdissipationthroughtheheatsinkand
couldengagethethermalprotectioncircuit.Excessiveheatwillshortenyouramplierslife.Tomaximiseheatdissipation,be
suretoleaveatleast2.5”ofclearancearoundtheamplier.Ifspaceisoftheessenseandtheampliermustbemountedin
anenclosedorrestrictedarea,asmall3inchfanshouldbeusedincorrespondencewithaductsotheheatcanowpastthe
FUTRANZHeatsink.Trytoavoidmountinganyamplieronasubwooferenclosure,asextendedexposuretovibrationmaycause
malfunctionoftheamplier.
ToavoidscratchingyournewFUSIONamplier,pre-drillthemountingholeswitheithera3mmor9/64”diameterdrillbitanduse
thescrewssuppliedintheaccessorykit.Besuretoinvestigateyourmountingareathoroughlytoavoidelectricalwires,vacuum
linesandbrakeorfuellines.
Installation Options
ThequalityofinstallationwillaecttheperformanceandreliabilityofyourFUSIONamplier.Formaximumperformancewe
recommendyouhaveyournewFUSIONamplierinstalledbyanauthorisedFUSIONdealer.Ourhighlyskilleddealershavevast
knowledgeofourproductsandtheirinstallationtechniquesarenecessarytounleashthehighperformancecapabilitiesofyour
amplier.
Ifyoudecidetoconnecttheamplieryourself,itisimportantthatyoureadthismanualcarefullyandthroughoutbeforestart-
ing.Onceyouhavenishedreadingandyoustillhavequestionsregardinginstallation,werecommendyourFUSIONdealer.
Connection
FUSIONampliersaredesignedtoworkwithina10to16voltDCrange.Beforeanywiresareconnected,thevessel’selectrical
systemshouldbecheckedforcorrectvoltagesupplywiththehelpofavoltmeter.First,checkthevoltageatthebatterywiththe
ignitionintheOFFposition.Thevoltmetershouldreadbetween12and13.8Volts.Ifyourvehicle’selectricalsystemisnotupto
thesespecication,werecommendhavingitcheckedbyanautoelectricianbeforeanyfurtherinstallation.Oncethevesselis
checked,makecertainthecorrectcablesizeisused.Werecommendusingthefollowingcablescalculatordiagramonpage8to
calculatethecorrectpowercableforyourapplication.
Power
FUSIONampliersshouldbewireddirectlytothebatteryusingtheappropriatesizedcable.Startatthevehiclebatteryandrun
thepowercablethroughtotheamplier.FUSIONrecommendstheuseofgrommetswhenpassingthepowercablethroughany
metalwalltoavoidsharpcornersorsharpbodypartsthatmayeasilycutthroughtheinsulationonthecable.
Avoidrunningthepowercableoverenginecomponentsandnearheatercores.Theuseofaninlinefuseorcircuitbreakeris
amust,thiswillpreventtheriskofapotentialrecausedbeashortinyourpowercable.Connectthefuseholderorcircuit
breakerasclosetothebatterypositiveterminalaspossible.Useafuseorcircuitbreakerofequalvalueasthatfoundonthe
chassisofyourFUSIONamplier.Youmaynowconnectthecabletothebattery,butremembertoleavethefuseoutorcircuit
breakerountilallothercableconnectionsaremade.
Ground
WhengroundingyourFUSIONamplier,locateametalareaclosetotheamplierthatisagoodsourceofground.Onceagain,
investigatetheareayouwishtouseforelectricalwires,vacuumlines,andbrakeorfuellines.Useeitherawirebrushorsand-
papertoeliminateunwantedpaint.Thiswillsupplyabettercontactforyourground.Usethesamegaugecableforgroundas
youdidforthepower.Securethegroundcabletotheappropriategroundpointusingabolt,starwasherandnut.Spreadsilicon
overthescrewandbaremetaltopreventrust.Nowitstimetoconnectthepowerandgroundcablestotheamplier.Cutboth
cablestolength.Crimptheyellowspadeconnectorssuppliedtothepowerandground.Useahextypescrewdrivertoloosenthe
+12VandtheGNDconnectionsontheamplier.Terminatethegroundrst,andthenthe+12Vandpleasemakesurethatyou
terminatethemintothecorrectterminals.Thentightenthescrewsdownsecurely.
Speaker Load
KeepinmindFUSION‘FM’seriesampliersarehighpowerampliersandnothighcurrentampliers.Inotherwordstheyrequire
aminimumimpedanceof2ohmsSTEREOand4ohmsbridgedMONOtooperatetroublefree.Toolowofanimpedancecouldsend
yourFUSIONamplierintoprotectionmodeand/ordamagetheamplier.
Remote Turn-on
Thisterminalmustbeconnectedtoaswitched+12Vsource.Typically,remoteturn-onleadsareprovidedattheheadunitwhich
willturnonandotheamplierincorrespondencewiththesource.Iftheheadunitdoesnothavearemoteturn-onlead,then
apowerantennawirecanbeused.Ifneitheroftheseleadsarepresentontheheadunitthenaswitched+12Vsupplymustbe
used,liketheACC+12V.
Runaminimumof18gaugewirefromtheamplierlocationtothesourceoftheswitched+12Vlead.Ifpossible,routethiswire
onthesamesideofthevehicleasyourpowercable.Connectthesourceremoteoutputtothewire.Gobacktotheamplierand
cutthewiretolength.LoosenthescrewterminalmarkedREMontheamplierusingahextypescrewdriver.Slipthewireinto
theconnectorandtightenthescrewsecurely.
Speaker Wiring
Choosethecorrectspeakerwireforyourapplication.Mostapplicationwillrequireaminimumof16gauge.Routetheseusingthe
sameprecautionsasyoudidwhenyouranthepowercables.Terminatethesewiresatthespeakerendusinginsulatedspeaker
terminals(notsupplied)orbysolderingtheconnection.Makesurethespeakerconnectionsarepositivetopositiveandnegative
tonegative.Attheamplierend,usea#2Phillipsscrewdrivertoloosenthespeakerterminalsontheamplier.Connectthe
speakerwiresandtightenthescrewssecurely.Checktomakesureyou’vemaintainedproperpolarityandbalance.
Inputs & Gain Setup
Low Level Inputs
BeextracarefulwithyourRCAinterconnects.Hiss,enginenoise,andfannoisecaneasilybepickedupthroughRCAcablesifrun
incorrectly.AvoidrunningyourRCAsnearlargewireloomsandelectricfansifpossible.RunyourRCAcablesontheoppositeside
ofthepowercable.Besuretocheckforcorrectbalance(Redisrightandblackorwhiteisleft)
Level Control
Ontheamplier,istheLEVELcontrol,thiscontrolallowsyoutomatchtheinputleveloftheampliertotheoutputlevelofyour
headunit.Matchingtheinputcanbeaccomplishedinthreesimplesteps:
1. TurntheLEVELcontrolontheampliertominimum.
2. Turnuptheheadunitandadjustto2/3maximumvolumeensuringthattheBASSandTREBLEaresettozero.
3. AdjusttheLEVELcontroluntilthedesiredvolumeisachievedwithoutaudibledistortion.
Remember,thegaincontrolisnotavolumecontrol.Ignoringthethreestepsabovemayleaveyouwithdamagedspeakersand/
oradamagedamplier.
