ports 1-4 use P1-P4 (T/R), respectively. In the 19-inch chassis, physical slots 1-6 use
P1, slots 7-12 use P2, and slots 13-18 use P3.
PROVISIONING
There are no hardware options on the Quad R-POTS access module. The Quad
R-POTS access module is provisioned by connecting a VT100 terminal or a computer
running a terminal emulation program to the craft interface ADMIN port located on the
System Controller Unit (SCU) front panel. Connection to the port is achieved by using
a male-ended RS-232 DB-9 cable. Craft port settings are as follows:
♦ 9600 Baud
♦ No Parity
♦ 8 Data Bits
♦ 1 Stop Bit
♦ No Flow Control
Windows HyperTerminal
Windows HyperTerminal can be used as a VT100 terminal emulation program. Open
HyperTerminal by selecting
Programs/Accessories/HyperTerminal. Refer to the Help
section of HyperTerminal for additional information.
NOTE: To ensure proper display background, select VT100 terminal emulation under
Settings.
Password and User ID
Password protection is a function of the SCU and is factory disabled. If password
authentication is enabled, then the SCU will display the
Logon screen. A valid user
name and password are required to access the menus.
NOTE: The default user name is “user”, and the default password is “password”.
The user name and password are not case sensitive.
Menu Navigation
To traverse through the menus, select the desired entry and press ENTER. To work
backward in the menu press the
ESC key.
The menu tree on the reverse page illustrates the path to every provisioning,
performance, and test access point in the Quad R-POTS menu.
TEST FEATURES
The Quad R-POTS supports a Digital Network Loopback Test, 1004 Hz Tone
Generation Test, Network Hook Test, and Customer Ringing Test for each circuit to
support circuit turnup and maintenance efforts. These tests are initiated from the Total
Access 1500 local craft port on the SCU or remotely via Telnet or SNMP, and are
initiated on an individual port basis. The tests are described below.
DESCRIPTION
The ADTRAN
®
Total Access
®
1500 Quad R-POTS is a Remote Terminal POTS
access module that provides four independent POTS interfaces between a Total Access
1500 Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) backplane and a 2-wire Voice Frequency (VF)
transmission and signaling facility. Each interface contains the necessary circuitry to
convert voice data signals from the customer loop to PCM digital data and convert
PCM digital data from the carrier to voice data. The access module also provides
ringing voltage to the loop when appropriate. The Quad R-POTS features are as
follows:
♦ Four independent VF interfaces
♦ FXS, TR08, PLAR, Tandem, DPO, and TO with SC operating modes
♦ Loop start, Ground start, and Wink start signaling modes
♦ Caller ID Class
™
compatible
♦ Digital loopback to network
INSTALLATION
After unpacking the Quad R-POTS access module, inspect it for damage. If damage
has occurred, file a claim with the carrier then contact ADTRAN Customer Service.
Refer to the Warranty information on the following page.
The Quad R-POTS inserts into any access module slot (1 through 24, 23-inch chassis
or 1 through 18, 19-inch chassis) of the Total Access 1500 chassis.
Gently, but firmly, push the Quad R-POTS into any slot on the shelf. Simultaneous
thumb pressure at the top and bottom of the Quad R-POTS will ensure a good seat of
the Quad R-POTS pins into the backplane connector. Push the ejector latch up and
closed against the Quad R-POTS front panel to lock it in place.
When the Quad R-POTS first powers up it performs a power up self-test. Once the
power up self-test is complete, the status LEDs will reflect the true state of the
hardware.

TIME SLOT ASSIGNMENTS
The Total Access 1500 platform can have multiple time slots in the T1 data stream
assigned to each physical slot in the channel bank. The system will automatically map
DS0s in the T1 as determined by the Line Interface Unit (LIU) operational
configuration. Manual mapping is available via the LIU menu.
CONNECTIONS
Four 50-pin male amphenol connectors on the 23-inch Total Access 1500 backplane
and three on the 19-inch chassis backplane provide the interconnect wiring for the four
analog circuits on each access module. For each physical slot on the 23-inch chassis,
