Planning:*
Place!the!barrels!in!position!on!a!firm!level!surface.!!All!barrels!should!be!at!the!same!level!to!prevent!
flooding!if!u s in g!c o n t a in e rs !w it h !removable!lid s!o r !sc re e n s .!!The!Y-Valve!will!connect!to!primary!barrel!that!
will!be!used!to!access!or!drain!water.!!!!The!single!valve!will!c o n n e c t!to!the!sec o n d !b a rr e l.!!
Install*bottom*drains:!
1. Select!a!location!for!the!valves!near!the!bottom!of!the!barrel.!
2. Hold!the!hose!in!position!between!the!barrels!and!mark!the!barrels!at!the!hose!ends.!!The!hose!can!be!
bowed!and!placed!off!center!to!allow!the!barrels!to!sit!rim!to!rim!if!desired!
3. Measure!up!approximately!1.5”!to!2”!(40-50mm)!from!the!bottom!of!the!barrel!and!mark!the!center!for!
the!hole.!!This!heigh t!will!give!ha n d !c le a ra n c e!t o !c o n n e ct !h o s e !e n d !fit tin g s. !!!A void!corne r s!or!ridges!
that!could!affect!the!w a te r !se a l.!
Warning'risk'of'Electrocution!''Make'sure'to'drain'all'water'from'the'container'before'drilling.'
4. Drill!holes!using!the!1-1/4”!spade!bit!included!in!the!set.!!
5. Insert!th e !th re a d e d !ru b b e r!seals!into!the!h o les!from!t h e !o u ts id e !o f!t h e !barrel.!!
Tip:%Pinch%the%seal%into%a%“U”%shape%for%easier%insertion.!!The!triangular!tab!sho u ld!lay!flus h !o n !t h e !
outside!of!the!barrel!when!finished.!Repeat!for!th e !s e co n d!barrel!
6. Thread!the!drain!assemblies!into!the !se a ls!until!the !h e x !co lla r !sit s!fir mly!again st !th e !s e a l.!!We!
recomm en d !leavin g!the !ho se!ca p!on !the !drains!while!assembling!to!insure!proper!thread!orientation.!

Tip:!Soapy%water%or%hand%lotion%on%the%threads%will%reduce%friction%and%aid%in%installation.%

7. Connect!the!swivel!end!of!the!Y-valve!to!the!drain!on!the!primary!barrel.!%
8. Connect!swivel!end!of!the!single!valve!to!the!drain!on!the!seco n d !b a r re l.!
9. Link!the!barrels!by!attaching!one!end!of!the!connecting!hose!to!the!Y-valve!and!the!other!end!to!the!
single!valve.!
To*Use:*
• Leave!the!connecting!valves!OPEN!t o !a llo w!water!t o !p a s s!fre e ly !b e tween!th e !lin k e d !b a rr e ls.!
• CLOSE!the!free!end!of!the!Y-valve!to!allow!the!barrels!to!fill.!
• OPEN!the!free!e n d !o f !th e !Y-valve!to!access !o r!drain!the!water!in!barrels.!!
• Close!the!valves !b e tween!b a rre ls! to !isolate!or!d isc o n n e c t!b a r re ls.!
• A!garden!hose!or!soaker!hose!can!be!connected!to!the!free!end!of!the!Y-valve.!!Be%careful%not%to%pull%on%
a%connected%hose%as%it%could%dislodge%the%drain%and%valve%from%the%barrel.%!
Tip.%If%no%hose%is%connected,%thread%the%cap%from%the%drain%onto%the%free%end%of%the%valve%to%prevent%
accidentally%draining %th e %b a rr els.!
Winterizing!a!rain!barrel!is!recommended!in!freezing!climates,!disconnect!the!hose!and!open!valves!to!
make!sure!that!water!will!not!free!inside!the!barre l!or!co m po n en ts. !
