Verify Engine Oil Level and Add Fuel
NOTICE Be sure you have attached wheels and support leg prior to
this step.
NOTICE Before starting the engine, check oil level and ensure that
engine is serviced as described in the Operator’s Manual.
Move generator outdoors to a flat, level surface. 1.
NOTICE DO NOT use E85 fuel.
NOTICE DO NOT mix oil with fuel.
The generator engine is shipped from the factory filled with oil. 2.
Before starting the engine, check oil level (L).
4
Replace and fully tighten oil fill cap.3.
Remove fuel cap (M), and add clean, fresh, UNLEADED fuel. 4.
Leave room for fuel expansion per instructions located on top of
tank.
5
Replace fuel cap, and let any spilled fuel evaporate before 5.
starting engine.
Move Generator to
Safe Operating Location
Move generator outdoors to a flat, level surface, in an area that 1.
will not accumulate deadly exhaust gas. DO NOT place generator
where exhaust gas could accumulate and enter inside or be
drawn into a potentially occupied building. Ensure exhaust gas
is kept away from any windows, doors, ventilation intakes, or
other openings that can allow exhaust gas to collect in a confined
area. Prevailing winds and air currents should be taken into
consideration when positioning generator.
6
To reduce the risk of exhaust heat or exhaust gases igniting 2.
nearby combustible material, keep at least 5 feet (1.5 m)
clearance on all sides of generator, including overhead.
Start Generator
Make sure unit is on a level surface. Disconnect all electrical 1.
loads from the generator.
Ensure fuel valve (N) is in the ON position. 2.
7
Move choke lever (P) to CHOKE position. 3.
8
Push rocker switch (R) to ON. 4.
9
Pull starter rope handle slowly until resistance is felt. Then pull 5.
rapidly to overcome compression, prevent kickback and start
engine.
If engine starts, proceed to step 9. If engine fails to start, 6.
proceed to step 7.
Move choke lever to “Half” choke position, and pull recoil handle 7.
twice. If engine starts, proceed to step 9.
If engine fails to start, repeat step 7.8.
Slowly move choke lever (P) to “Run” position. If engine falters, 9.
move choke lever to “Half” choke position until engine runs
smoothly, and then to “Run” position.
8
NOTICE If engine floods, place choke lever in “Run” position and
repeat step 5 until engine starts.
Plug in Items to be Powered
Let engine stabilize and warm up for a few minutes after 1.
starting.
Ensure the circuit breaker (S) on the control panel is in the ON 2.
position.
10
Connect electrical loads in OFF position, then turn ON for 3.
operation.
Plug in and turn on the desired 120 (T) and/or 240 (U) Volt AC, 4.
single phase, 60 Hz electrical loads.
10
Refer to 5. Do Not Overload Generator section of Operator’s
Manual.
Shut Down Generator
Turn OFF and unplug all electrical loads from generator panel 1.
receptacles. NEVER start or stop engine with electrical devices
plugged in and turned ON.
Let engine run at no-load for several minutes to stabilize internal 2.
temperatures of engine and generator.
Push engine rocker switch (R) to “Off” position. 3.
9
Move fuel valve (N) to “Off” position. 4.
7
To prepare for storage, refer to Operator’s Manual.5.

WARNING Overloaded electrical cords can overheat, arc,
and burn resulting in death, bodily injury, and/or property
damage. ONLY use cords rated for your loads. Follow all
safeties on electrical cords.
CAUTION E-rings can cause eye injury. E-rings can spring
back and become airborne when installing or removing.
Always wear eye protection when installing/removing
e-rings.
WARNING Failure to read and follow the
Operator’s Manual and all operating
instructions can result in death, bodily injury,
and/or property damage.
WARNING Outdoor use ONLY. DO NOT start or
run engine indoors or in an enclosed
area, even if windows and doors are
open. Running engines give off carbon
monoxide, an odorless, poison gas that can cause
nausea, fainting or death.
WARNING Fuel and its vapors are flammable and
explosive. Turn off engine and wait at least
2 minutes before refueling. Let spilled fuel
evaporate before starting engine. Always
allow space for fuel expansion.
WARNING Contact with Muffler area can result in
serious burns. DO NOT touch hot parts and
AVOID hot exhaust gases.
WARNING Generator produces hazardous voltage
and current. Contact with live parts can cause
electric shock or burn. DO NOT operate
under wet conditions. Transfer switch MUST
be used when connecting generator to a building’s
electrical system.
