Introduction
Quick setup
TACT Millennium is the world's first true-digital power
amplifier where digital audio data is converted directly
into sound without analog amplification or conventional
low-level D/A conversion involved at any step.
The core technology is based on patented EQUlBlTru
processing and output modules.
The TACT
Millennium is a modular design, a platform for
state-of-the-art music reproduction. This means that you
can add functions or upgrade the pertormance when the
tech
nology becomes available.
This manual will expand together with your Millennium.
lf you take the time to register
your investment, we
guarantee that you will get information about future
u
pgrades and expansions.
Pure and simple design
The Millennium is very
easy to operate. Three buttons
and a
volume control are what you have at your disposal.

sure that the label
on the rear
panel
of the
Millennium indicates
the correct AC operating
voltage for your country.
When
the
power switch (1)
is pressed
- the standby
circuitry,
which
controls
the mains relay will be activated.
The amplifier will start in standby mode indicated by the red
TACT logo. After a few seconds,
the amplifier can be
switched
into operational mode by pressing
any of the two
input selector
(2 or 4) buttons
or using the power button on
the remote
control. ln operational
mode, the display located
in the wheel will be visible
To
bring the amp back to standby
mode,

Digital Inputs
There
are 4 digital
inputs on the backpanel
corresponding
to
4 input indicators
at the right hand section
of the display:
DI - BNC input (6)
D2 - BNC input (6)
D3 - RCA
input (7)
D4 - AES|EBU input (14)
The D (4)
button on the frontpanel
and on the remote
control
is used
to toggle between
the inputs. The
two EIVC
connec-
tors
can be used with standard RCS
pluqs
if a BNC/RCS
con-
verter is used.
Clock Gate
A proprietary
S-pole XLR input is provided for a clock
syn-
chronized CD-transport,
where the reference
clock is con-
trolled by the Millennium.
This feature
is called
Clock Gate.
When a compatible
device is connected
to the S-pole
connec-
tor (10),
position
D4 selects the Clock Gate input as a source.
(This
means
that anv Clock Gate
source
will override the
AES/EBU input.)
Digital Output
Ihe se/ecfed
analog
or digital input source
is relayed
to the
digital output. Use the output for recording
CD:s etc.
'
-:.
Analog lnputs
One of the two S-pole XLRs
(15)
is dedicated
for the
optional
Analog Input Module
A.l.M., which will be clock
synchro-
nized
and
powered
by the
Millennium.
When
the A.l.M. is
connected,
one of four analog inputs
can be se/ected by tog-
gling
through input
Al to 44. When
the A.l.M.
is not pre-
sent, the Al indicator will flash and the Millennium
returns to
the
previous
digital
input.

Adjusting the volume
The volume
can be adjusted by turning the big wheel or press-
ing volume
up/down on the remote
control.
The volume level is displayed in decibels
(dBl where 99.9d8 is
the maximum
setting
giving
full power for a full-scale input
form a digital
source.
Note that no clipping
is possible.
Some recordings may
be
recorded
at a lower
level
that doesn't make use of the full
16
bit dynamic range of the CD. The Millennium will not deliv-
er full power with such records.
The
volume
is adjusted in
approx.
500 uniform steps of 0.1BBdB.
The
value displayed is
always
rounded to 0.1d8 resolution. Howeve4
not all 3-digit
volume
levels can be set, the value
will increase with either
0.1d8 or 0.2d8 according to the rounding number.
Preset Volume
When the Millennium
is turned on, the volume /s
sef to a pre-
programmed
value. This level
can easily be changed;
adjust
the volume
to the desired level,
press
the A and D buttons
simultaneously for 2 seconds. The display will confirm the sef-
ting by flashing the volume and the amplifier automatically
enters standby mode.
Maximum output level
The volume
control
with its low-friction,
high
precision
ball
bearings
can easily spin up to full output. To
prevent
damage
to your speakers, a maximum volume
level can easily
be pro-
grammed.
. Adjust the
volume
to the desired level
and
press
the "MAX
VOL" key on the remote
control to activate this feature.
The Millennium display confirms
the setting with "On".
. Io reset
the maximum
output to 99.9d8,
simply
press
the
"MAX VOL' again.
The
display will acknowledge
this
with"OFF".
Note that this
operation can
only
be done with
the remote
control.
Setting the Max level is an easy way to
protect your speakers from extreme
power levels.
Power
At a first
glance,
the operation
of this very accurate
dB scaled
volume
control may come as a bit of a surpilse.
Normal
opera-
tion will be at levels
that seem to be verv close to the maxi-
mum power of the
amplifier.

Keep
in mind that the dB scale
is not linear,

Display light control
When the Millennium is in operational mode (ON),
three levels
of display-light settings are possible.
The DIM button on the remote
control toqqles between:
A. Maximum light
B. Dimmed
C. Dimmed and volume display/input indicators off
Regardless of this setting,
any
change
in display information
activates
maximum liqht for two seconds.
Polarity
You
can switch the
polarity 180" with the remote
control.
The
display confirms
the
polarity
with either
"pos" or "neg".
Mute
When "Mute" is activated
from the
remote
control the display
shows
"---" and the amp will be muted. Press
fhe "Mute" but-
ton again or change the volume
to deactivate the mute sfatus.
Protection Mode
A sophisticated
monitoring circuit controls the operation of the
amplifier. When an error
is detected, the amplifier shuts down
into protection
mode immediately and indicates the status
by
flashing
the TACT
logo.
Protection mode can be triggered by:
1. Overload/short-circuit
of the speaker outputs
(limits current to approx. 35 Amps)
2. DC
defected at the speaker outputs, this can be due to
extreme
program
material.
3. lnternal
power failure burned luses
etc.
4. Mains supply voltage is too low or too high.
5. Overheating of the amplifier.
Most of the above mentioned error conditions
are
normally
temporary. When the Millennium
goes
into protection
mode,
switch off the
power and inspect the amplifier.
Check
the
speaker cables, feel if the cover is very hot. Turn on the amplifier
again to see
if normal operation mode may
be resumed.
lf the error condition
persists,
the
Millennium
will return to pro-
tection mode immediately. lf this is the case,
the
Millennium
needs authorized
service.
. No bridge coupling is possible.
. The frequency response
of the
Millennium
extends down to
DC. Playback
of material with extreme infrasonic
program
material may cause the amp to go into protection
mode
in
order to protect
the speakers.
