Installing Your Yap Jack
Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Before using your Yap Jack, you will need to select an Internet Service
Provider (ISP) and set up an account if you do not already have one.
Please note that you must select an ISP that uses standard Internet
Point-to-Point protocol (PPP). While most ISP’s use PPP to connect,
currently America Online (AOL) does not. Thus, you will not be able
to use AOL to make Internet telephone calls with your Yap Jack. If
you already have a PPP-compatible Internet access account, you can
begin installing your Yap Jack. Please contact your ISP directly if you
have any questions regarding their PPP compatibility.
Choosing an ISP
You are responsible for selecting your own ISP account. Care should
be taken when selecting an ISP since the quality of its service could
have an impact on the quality of your Internet phone calls. For exam-
ple, you will want to utilize an ISP that has a reliable connection and
provides ease and speed in connecting to the Internet during peak
usage hours.
Choose an ISP that provides a local access number so that calls to the
network are local telephone calls. If you live in an area without local
ISP access, choose a service that provides the closest access number
to minimize your telephone charge. Check with your local telephone
company to ensure your access number is considered a local call. A
cost-effective ISP may be one that charges a fixed rate for unlimited
dial-up access.

Installation Procedure:
• Remove the Yap Jack, the telephone line cord, and the AC power
adaptor from the packing box.
• Disconnect your telephone line cord from the wall jack and con-
nect it directly to the Yap Jack in the connector marked “PHONE”
on the rear panel.
• Insert one end of the telephone line cord provided into your tele-
phone wall jack.
• Insert the other end of the telephone line cord provided into the
connector marked “LINE” on the rear panel of the Yap Jack.
• Plug the AC power adaptor provided into an electrical outlet and

panel of the Yap Jack.
You will hear a beep and the button on the Yap Jack will flash.
• Lift the handset on your telephone and listen for the dial tone that
indicates the Yap Jack has been installed properly.
If you do not hear a beep and the button on the Yap Jack does not
flash, check that the power adaptor is plugged into a live electrical
outlet and that the power cord is pushed securely into the connector.
If you do not hear the dial tone, check all connections to be sure the
telephone line cords are plugged firmly into each connector.
IDT ISP Service (U.S. Customers)
In order to simplify choosing an ISP, we have partnered with IDT to
offer a discounted ISP service in the U.S. If you are interested in acquir-
ing IDT ISP service, please contact us at 888-581-0842 and identify
yourself as a Net2Phone Yap Jack user.
Information Needed From Your ISP
Your ISP will guide you through the account activation procedure and
give you the opportunity to select or supply you with a user name and
password. Your ISP will also provide an Internet access telephone
number that you will enter into the Yap Jack. You can use the space
below to record your ISP access information.
Internet Access Telephone Number:
User Name:
Password:
The above information will be entered into your Yap Jack using the
keypad on your telephone during configuration (see page 9).
Location of Your Yap Jack
Place your Yap Jack near a telephone jack and electrical outlet. Do not
put anything on top of the air vents on the Yap Jack casing since it
may cause the Yap Jack to overheat during operation.
Before continuing with your installation, refer to the warning on the
inside front cover.

Entering Your ISP User Name
Most ISP user names and passwords are case sensitive and may require

each number key with the associated alphanumeric values.
Press 4 to enter the ISP USER NAME MENU from the CONFIGU-
RATION MENU. Using Tables 3 and 4 as a guide, press the appropri-

will return to the CONFIGURATION MENU prompt.
Examples:

Users with a Host Exchange
If your telephone is connected to a host exchange, an access number is
necessary to obtain an outside line (usually the number 9). In most
cases, you will need to add a pause after the 9 by using the * key to
trigger a pause in the dialing sequence. The voice prompt will
acknowledge the * key as a comma or a pause.
Example:
To enter: 9 555-1234
Press: 9 * 555 1234 #
Press: 3 (to save value after you have been prompted)
Users with Call Waiting
If you subscribe to call waiting, it must be blocked during Internet
telephone calls. Because Internet access is obtained through a modem
inside the Yap Jack, call waiting will not work as it does on a regular
telephone call. The feature to block call waiting must be activated
through the EXTENDED MENU (see EXTENDED MENU section).
The call waiting code may vary depending on where you live. In the
United States, the code is "*70". Enter your call waiting code using
alphanumeric entry if it is not "*70".

Answer: If you do not currently have an ISP, you have a variety
of options. We have partnered with IDT to offer you a
discounted ISP service. Please contact us at 888-581-
0842 for details. You can also check your telephone
directory for a list of all local ISP’s.
