BONNeT
- To release the bonnet, the passenger door needs to be opened. Then the lever can be seen at the
bottom left of the passenger footwell.
- Remember to check the coolant, oil, screen wash and battery levels frequently.
- Please note, if the bonnet fails to close at first attempt, DO NOT push the bonnet closed (which could
damage it). Re-open and release from a greater height.

1 THE KEYS TO YOUR CAR
- There are four buttons on the fob, which release the metal key, switch on the lights for 60 seconds or
alternatively opens the tailgate on the Exclusive Tourer, lock and unlock the car.
- The locking button also has some additional features:
- Deadlocking the car – disconnects the door handles both on the outside and inside as a
security measure.
- Guide Me Home Lights the headlights remain on for a short time, to help at night.
- ‘Find Mefunction – The indicators flash for 10 seconds for locating the car in a busy car park.
- ‘Global closer’ – by pressing and holding the lock button, this will close all windows and
sunroof too.

FUeL FLAP
- The tank capacity is approximately 71 litres.
- During the filling of the tank, the filler cap can be attached on the inside of the flap.

TYReS
- The tyre pressures are indicated on the label on inside of the drivers door frame.
(For more details please refer to page 206 of the owners handbook).
TYRe PReSSURe MONITOR (eXCLUSIVe)
- This function warns of tyres that are deflated or punctured.
- Sensors monitor the tyre pressures whilst driving. In the event of change in pressure, a message will
appear on the instrument panel screen.
- The pressures can be checked at any time by pressing on the ‘Check’ button on the right.
The information will be displayed on the instrument panel screen.

TAILGATe (TOUReR eXCLUSIVe)
- The Tourer may have electronic opening and closing tailgate. Opening the tailgate can either be done
via the key or the handle. Closing is done by pressing the red boot close button on the under side of
the tailgate or can be done manually.
- It is possible to interrupt the tailgate whilst it is closing or opening, by either pressing the button on
the key, the handle or the red boot closing button.
- It is possible to memorise an intermediate position. This is done by moving the boot to the required opening
angle and then pressing and holding the red boot close button until a confirmation beep can be heard.

SPARe WHeeL
- The spare wheel is stored in the boot.
- On 1.6HDi there is a temporary puncture repair kit.

TORCH (ON TOUReR VTR+ & eXCLUSIVe MOdeLS)
- The boot light, can also be used as a torch which lasts up to 45 minutes using the
rechargeable batteries.
- Automatically recharges whilst driving with the torch in its housing.
- There is an additional bracket (A) on the torch, which allows the torch to be propped up whilst on the
ground, lighting up the wheel bolts when changing a wheel at night.

HIGH LOAd ReTAINING NeT (TOUReR)
- The high load retaining net is installed by clipping it onto the back of the rear seats and fixing it into
the roof anchor points.
- There are two places the net can be positioned with the car, either behind the rear bench seat or
behind the front seats once the rear bench seat is folded down.

FOLdING ReAR SeATS
- It is possible to fold the rear seats (1/3 - 2/3).
- Before folding the seats, stow the head restraints. Then lift the seat cushion, and rest it against the front
seat and using the lever tilt the back rest of each seat forward.
- When repositioning the seat, ensure that the back rest is correctly locked into place by checking that
the red indicator has disappeared.

ReAR WINdOW BLINdS (LeATHeR PACK OPTION)
- As part of the option the Saloon comes with a rear window blind and side window blinds.
- The Tourer comes with the side blind only, as the rear glass is tinted on the VTR+ and Exclusive.
- Pull up on either blind and hook onto the area marked B (for the side blind) and D (for the Rear blind).

dRIVeR CONTROLS
- Before you drive your car, make sure you are fully aware of all the main controls needed whilst driving.

dRIVeR’S SeAT AdJUSTMeNTS
- There are several different adjustments which can be made to the drivers seat, allowing for the most
comfortable position including height adjustment.
- In addition to the standard seats the VTR+ has lumbar adjustment and the Exclusive has electric seats
with additional shoulder adjustment and memory. The Leather Pack option adds to these seats a heat
and massage function.

STeeRING WHeeL HeIGHT & ReACH
- The steering wheel is adjustable for both the height and reach. The adjuster is on the bottom left of the
steering wheel.

FIXed-CeNTRed CONTROLS STeeRING WHeeL
- The benefits of the fixed centred controls steering wheel, are that the driver’s airbag can be shaped
to match the human form regardless of the amount of steering lock applied. The following controls
can be used without taking your hands off the steering wheel, and are always in the
same position.

F. Selection of the type of information displayed on the central screen

CRUISe CONTROL ANd SPeed LIMITeR
- The minimum speed for setting the systems is 25mph and the controls are located on the left side
of the Fixed Centred Controls steering wheel.
- Cruise Control is designed to maintain one constant speed.
- Speed Limiter is designed not to allow for a speed to be exceeded.

dOOR MIRRORS
- To activate the heated door mirrors press the rear screen de-icing button.
- The mirrors can also be fitted with an ‘Indexing. As part of the Leather Pack option on the VTR+ or as
standard on Exclusive, this feature lowers the door mirror towards the ground showing the curb, when
reverse gear and either mirror has been selected on the control button.
- The position of the ‘Indexingmirror can be adjusted.

HeAdLAMPS
- The C5 is also fitted with ‘Cornering Lightsor ‘Bend Lighting. These extra lamps switch on below
25mph when either indicating or turning the wheel more than 90 degrees. They add extra light to the
left or right of the main beam dependent on the direction youre turning.
- ‘Direction Headlampsare part of the Xenon option. They adjust the main beam to the left and right
by 15 degrees according to the steering angle.
- All these systems can be deactivated in the Main Menu.

AUTOMATIC ILLUMINATION OF HeAdLAMPS (ON VTR + & eXCLUSIVe MOdeLS)
- Once ‘AUTO’ has been activated, the headlamps will illuminate either when the light levels are low or
if the wipers are activated.
- Please note they do not necessarily respond to foggy conditions. In these types of conditions they
must be switched on manually and may also require the fog lamps.

GUIde Me HOMeLIGHTING
- Designed to improve the visibility whilst walking away from the vehicle, by keeping the headlamps on
temporarily after switching off the ignition.
- Automatic activation can be set for 15, 30 or 60 seconds through the onboard computer menu on
cars with ‘Automatic headlamps’ or manually for 30 seconds for those without, by pulling the lighting
stalk towards the steering wheel within 2 minutes after switching off the engine.

AUTOMATIC RAIN SeNSITIVe WINdSCReeN WIPeRS (VTR + & eXCLUSIVe)
- To activate this function push down on the windscreen wiper stalk.
(For more details please refer to pages 89 - 91 of the owners handbook).
WINdSCReeN WIPeRS ‘MAINTeNANCe POSITION’
- For up to one minute after switching off the ignition, press the windscreen wiper stalk down and the
wipers will move to a vertical position.
- This allows for the screen/wiper blades to be cleaned, changed or positioned for winter parking
without risking damage to the bonnet. Winter parking is leaving the wiper blades off the screen
overnight reducing the risk of frost damage to the blades.

HYdRACTIVe 3+ SUSPeNSION
- The Hydractive 3+ suspension enhances driving comfort by maintaining a constant body height
whatever the vehicle load.
- Hydractive 3+ suspension gives you the possibility of choosing between two modes of suspension:
- Normal mode allows for maximum comfort
- Sport mode is more suited to a sporty style of driving. (Sport mode is retained when you
switch off the engine).
ADJUSTMENT OF BOOT SILL HEIGHT:
- When stationary it is possible to adjust the height of the C5 Tourer boot sill manually:
- Keep the button pressed down which is located in the boot on the right handside
- The sill height can be raised as well as lowered.
- There are three ways in which the vehicle will return to its original position:
- Close the boot
- Open the drivers door
- Drive the vehicle taking care to allow correction before driving over raised surfaces.
The pump motor may be heard on entering or exiting the vehicle when the engine is off (this is raising/
lowering of the suspension).

AUTOMATIC eLeCTRIC PARKING BRAKe
- The parking brake button can be found in the centre behind the gear lever.
- The parking brake is automatically released when pulling away and automatically applied when the
engine is switched off.
- It can also be engaged/disengaged manually, by pulling the parking brake button (A).

SPECIAL FEATURES:
- When towing a caravan or stopping on a steep gradient, maximum application is obtained by a long
pull on the paddle (warning lamp P).
- Emergency disengagement can be achieved by using the strap in the central armrest (see reactivation
instructions in user manual)
- Dynamic emergency braking is possible by a continuous pull on the paddle (braking made safe by ABS/ESP).
With the ignition on or with the engine running: keep a foot on the brake pedal to manually release
the handbrake using the paddle. Before getting out of the vehicle, check that the warning lamp is lit
continuously on the instrument panel or the paddle. A normal operating noise can be heard during the
application and release phases.
HILL START ASSIST FUNCTION
- The Hill Start Assist function holds the vehicle on a gradient greater than 5%, for approximately 2
seconds (the time required to move from the brake pedal to the accelerator).
For the system to be activated, the vehicle must be at a standstill with the brake pedal depressed.
Do not get out of the vehicle while it is being held by the Hill Start Assist function.

PARKING SPACe GAP’ MeASUReMeNT SYSTeM (OPTION)
- Part of the ’Detection Pack’ option, this system measures the space available for parallel parking and
tells you whether the space available is big enough for the car or not.
- In order for it to work, it needs to be switched on by pressing the P button on the fixed-centred controls
steering wheel, the car needs to drive past the space at 12mph or below with the indicator on,
no further away from the parked cars than 1.5m.
The system does not measure spaces under 3 metres and over 8 metres.

INTeRIOR MOOd LIGHTING (ON eXCLUSIVe MOdeLS)
- The brightness of the ambient lighting can be adjusted.
- The door pockets use motion sensors to switch the lights on.

AUTOMATIC dOOR LOCKING
- Designed for personal safety, the system locks the doors at speeds above 6mph (10km/h).
- It can be deactivated by pressing and holding the padlock button on the dash.
- All doors are unlocked as soon as either an internal door handle is used or an activation of the airbags.

CHILd LOCKS
- This prevents the rear windows and doors from being opened, from the rear seats. A warning lamp in
the instrument panel lights up for approximately 10 seconds, each time the ignition is switched on.

AUTOMATIC MODE
- Adjust the temperature control button(s) (2) to the desired temperature and press the ‘AUTO’
button (1). This is the mode we recommend to be most comfortable.
MANUAL MODE
- The air-distribution control button(s) (3) control where the air is directed to. The air-flow control (5)
increases or decreases the flow of air. It is possible to manually adjust one function whilst keeping the
other in automatic mode. Buttons (6) and (7) allow you to demist the front and rear screens. You can
control the air recirculation using button (8).
Check that the soft diffuser is closed in high temperatures. This will increase ventilation from the vents.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTeM (ABS) WITH eLeCTRONIC BRAKeFORCe
dISTRIBUTION (eBd), eMeRGeNCY BRAKe ASSISTANCe (eBA)
eLeCTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (eSP) WITH TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)
- The C5 comes with ABS, EBD EBA and ESP/ASR as standard.
- ABS prevents the wheels from locking when emergency braking, allowing you to steer round
an obstruction (The hazard lights will also be activated to warn other drivers).
- EBD maximizes stopping power.
- EBA applies an immediate maximum brake force.
- ESP is a reactionary system which is designed to keep the car stable in an emergency such
as a quick lane change.
- ASR prevents the wheels from spinning in low traction circumstances.
SWITCHING OFF ESP/ASR SYSTEMS
- In certain exceptional conditions such as starting the vehicle when stuck in mud, snow, or on loose
ground, you may wish to switch the system off by pressing the button, located on the dashboard.
If the warning lamp flashes then the ESP or ASR have been triggered and are operational.

WARNING LIGHTS ANd AUdIBLe WARNING SYSTeM FOR ALL UNFASTeNed SeAT BeLTS
- There are seat belt warning lights for the driver, front and rear passengers which are displayed in the
roof console display, showing the outline of the vehicle and the various seating positions.

INTeLLIGeNT TRACTION CONTROL SYSTeM
- This is a system which enables a very significant improvement to driving on snow-covered
icy surfaces.
- Using snow tyres further improves the effect of using this system, and offers a performance approaching
that of a 4x4 vehicle.
- It can be disconnected using the ESP OFF button.

LANe dePARTURe WARNING SYSTeM (OPTION)
- This system uses sensors located in the front bumper, to detect when a lane marking has been crossed
(continuous or dotted line) at speeds above 50mph and if the indicator is not on. The drivers seat
vibrates on the side corresponding to the direction of drift.
- It can be switched on/off as and when required, by using the button to the left of the steering wheel.

8 OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS
AUdIO SYSTeM WITH RdS FM/AM RAdIO ANd Cd, MP3 PLAYeR
- As well as the standard features of the radio, there are some additional choices which can be made,
such as vehicle settings and radio parameters, changing the display screen, darkening the display
screen for night time driving, Traffic Announcements and playing of MP3 music.

AIRBAGS
- The car comes with seven airbags, which includes a passenger’s airbag which can be disarmed. The
‘On/Off’ switch for the passenger airbag is located on the glove box.

ISOFIX ReAR PASSeNGeR SeAT
- The rear and front passenger seats have ISOFIX points, with top tether points.

‘MYWAY’ NAVIGATION SYSTeM (ON VTR+ MOdeL)
- This integrated navigation system includes European mapping and live traffic information.
- As well as the usual audio function including the playing of MP3 tunes, the system has a built-in
Bluetooth

connection for pairing with mobile phones.

NAVIdRIVe SYSTeM (OPTIONAL ON eXCLUSIVe MOdeL)
- This optional system, in addition to the standard radio features includes:

- Hands-free telephone capability.
- Voice Activation of the main controls.
