Zone Air Pathway (ZAP)
The QuietCool Zone Air Pathway (ZAP) is designed to allow homeowners with a single QuietCool Whole House Fan system the
ability to close their doors at night and still open their bedroom windows while operating a QuietCool system.
Simply install a ZAP in each of the rooms that you would like to pull the cool air from. The tools you will need include:
• Drywall saw
• Pencil
• Tape measure
• Stud nder
• Electric Drill
• Phillips Drill Bit
• Screwdriver or Awl
• Level or Square
• Ladder
• Reciprocating saw
(If cutting out stud)
Step 1: Select an area over the doorway you want to install the ZAP.
Using your stud nder, check to see if there is a stud in the way. If there is a
stud, you will need to cut through the stud in order to make room for the box.
CAUTION: Make sure that the stud you are cutting through is not load
bearing. If it is, you will need to nd a new location.
Measure the width of the door, including the door trim. Find your
center horizontally. Once you locate your center point, take a level and
measure from the center to the celling and nd the center vertically.
Place the center of the template over the overall center point above the door.
(See Figure 1)
Step 2: Trace around the template. (See Figure 2)
Step 3: Using your drywall saw, cut along the lines, and remove the drywall.
(See Figure 3)
Step 4: Using a screwdriver or awl, poke through the corner of the cutout,
keeping the tool straight through the backside of the drywall. Repeat this step
in every corner. (See Figure 4)
Step 5: Set the ladder up on the other side of the wall and you will notice the
4 holes that you just poked through. Take the box that is labeled number 1
(which is the larger of the boxes) and line up the corners with the holes that you
made above the doorway. Once the box is lined up trace a rectangle outside
the box. (See Figure 5)
Step 6: Using your drywall saw, cut along the lines, and remove the drywall.
(See Figure 6)
Step 7: Take box # 1 and insert it into the rst hole you cut out. Take box # 2
and put the bafe back inside the box and insert into the second hole you cut
out. (See Figure 7)
Step 8: Screw one grille on each side using the provided grille screws. Make
sure the grille is level before tightening the screw down. (See Figure 8 & 9)
