EthernetPort ThisisaFastEthernetportforconnectingtoacomputeror
otherdeviceswithanetworkport.
Group/Reset Createsanencryptedpowerlinenetworkgroupautomatically
(pressthebuttonforlessthan3seconds).
Leavesanencryptedpowerlinenetworkgroup
(pressthebuttonfor5~8seconds).
Restoresthepowerlineadaptertofactorydefaults(pressthe
buttonfor10~15 seco nds).

Chapter3:GettingStarted
3.1HardwareInstallation
1. Alwaysplugthepowerlineadapterdirectlyintoapowersocket.Neverplugitintoa
multiplesocketoruninterruptiblepowersupply(UPS).
2. Ifyouneedtouseamultiple socketforadditionalnetworkdevices,
thenconnectthemultiplesockettotheintegratedpowersocketoftheadapter,and
plugthepowerlinedirectlyintoapowersocket,asshownbelow.Thepowersocketof
theadapterfeaturesafilterfunctionwhichis
abletoimprovethedatatransmissionin
thenetwork.

3.2CreatingaPowerlineNetwork
1. ConnectapowerlineadaptertoyourrouterviaEthernetcable,andthenplugitintoa
powersocket.
2. Connectanotherpowerlineadaptertoyourcomputer,andthenplugitintoapower
socket.
Note:Youcanalsoconnecttheadaptertoaprinter,settopbox,gamingconsole,TVor
otherdevicewithanetworkport,toadd thedeviceintothepowerlinenetwork.
3. MakesurethatthePLCandLANLEDslightuponbothPLCadapters.
4. Thecomputerandtherouterwillbeconnectedtothepowerlinenetworkautomatically.

3.3CreatinganEncryptedPowerlineNetworkwithTwoAdapters
Oncebothadaptershavebeensuccessfullyconnected,pressthe“Group/Reset”button
ofeachadapterforlessthan3secondswithin2minutes.Theadapterswill
automaticallygeneratearandompasswordtoencryptthepowerlinenetwork.
Note:
z Toaddadditionaladaptersintotheencryptedpowerlinenetworkortoremove
anadapterfromthepowerlinenetwork,pleaserefertotheChapter6inthe
manual
z Ifthepowerlineadapterinyournetworkdoesnotfeaturea“Group/Reset” or
an“Encrypt”button,youcanusetheutilitysoftwareasanalternative.For
moredetailspleaserefertoChapter5 inthemanual.

Chapter4:UtilitySoftwareInstallation
Youcanmanagealltheconnectedpowerlineadapterswiththeutilitysoftware.Onlyinstall
theutilitysoftwarewhenyouneedtoaddotherpowerlineadapterswithout“Group”or
“Encrypt”button.
Step1 Beforeinstallingtheutilitysoftware,makesurethatnootherpowerlineutilityis
installedonyourcomputer.Ifanyotherutilitysoftwareisinstalled,uninstallitand
rebootthecomputer.
Step2 InserttheCDintoyourCDROMdrive.Whenthefollowing“AutorunWizard”
appears,selectyourmodel.
Note:Ifautoplayisinstalledonyourcomputer,the“AutorunWizard”willstart
automatically.Otherwise,
pleasegotoAutorunfolderintheCDandexecutethe
“AutoRun.exe”program.

Step3 Thenclick“SetupUtility”.
Step4 IfyouhavenotinstalledWinPcapversion4.1.2(orhigher)onyourcomputer
before,pleaseclick“OK”toinstalltheutility.Thewizardwillguideyouthroughthe
setupprocess.

Step5 Whenthe“EdimaxPowerLineUtility”setupwizardappears,click“Next”to
continue.

Step6 Inthe“LicenseAgreement”screen,pleaseselect“IAgree”andthenclick“Next”to
continue.
Step7 Selectwhereyouwanttoinstalltheutilitysoftware,andthenclick“Next”.

Step8 Ifyouconfirmtoinstalltheutility,click“Next”.
Step9 Aftertheinstallationiscomplete,click“Close”.
Step10Aniconwillappearonyourdesktop.Doubleclicktheicontoopentheutility
software.

Chapter5:UsingtheUtilitySoftware
5.1MainTab
The“Main”tabprovidesalistoflocalorremotepowerlineadaptersinthenetwork.
Youcouldmanagetheremotepowerlineadapters(thoseonyourcircuit,butnotdirectly
connectedtoyourcomputer)here.
UpperPanel‐LocalDevice(s)onyourcomputer
Theupperpaneldisplayslocalpowerlineadaptersconnectedtothecomputer’s
networkport.Insituationswheretherearemorethanonelocaldevicebeingconnected,
suchasaUSBoranEthernetadapter,theusercanselectthelocaldevicebyclickingon
it
andthenclickthe“Connect”button.Thestatusareaabovethebuttonindicatesthatyour
PCisconnectedtowhichdevice.Onceconnectedtothelocaldevice,theutilitywill
automaticallyscanthepowerlineperiodicallyforanyotherpowerlinedevices.Ifnolocal
powerlinedevicesarediscovered,the
statusareaabovetheconnectbuttonwillindicate
withamessage“HOMEPLUGADAPTERSNOTDETECTED’.

Ifyouwanttoupgradefirmwareoftheadapterdirectlyconnectedtoyourcomputer,
pleaseclick“Upgradefirmware”button.Thedialogboxwillbeshownasbelow,pleaseclick
“Browser”buttontochoosethePIBandfirmwarefilesyouwishtoupdateandthenclick
“OK”button.
Note:Pleasebe
sureyouhaveselectedthecorrectmodelfirmware,orthedevicemaybe
damaged.
LowerPanel‐PowerlineDevicesdetected
Thelowerpaneldisplaysremotepowerlineadaptersinthenet work.Thefollowingare
descriptionsofeverysetupitems:

DeviceName Thiscolumnshowsthedefaultdevicename,forexample:
“Device2”,“Device3”.Ifyouwanttochangethename,
pleaseclick“Rename”buttontoeditthename.
Password(DEKPassword) Thiscolumnbydefaultisblank.Inordertomanagethe
powerlineadapters,youhavetoenterthepassword(DEK
password)oftheadapter.TheDEKpasswordisprintedon
thelabellocatedinbackofthepowerlineadapter.After
youhaveenteredthecorrectpassword,thiscolumn
will
showthepassword.
Tosetthepasswordoftheadapter,firstselecttheadapter
byclickingonitsnameandthenclick“EnterPassword”
button.Adialogboxwillappearasbelow.Pleasetypethe
passwordandclick“OK”button.

Quality Thestatusoftheconnectionqualitywillbeshownhere.
Rate(Mbps) Showsthecurrentdatarateofthepowe rlineadapter.
MACAddress Theadapter’sMACaddresswillbeshownhere.
Rename Selectanadapterandclick“Rename”torenamethe
adapter.
EnterPassword Selectanadapterandclick“EnterPassword”tosetthe
passwordfortheadapter.
Add Thisbuttonisusedtoaddaremotepowe rlineadapter
whichisnottheexistingnetwork.Clickthisbuttonandthe
followingdialogboxwillappear.Pleaseenterbothdevice
nameandthepasswordandclick“OK”button.
Scan Click“Scan”andtheutilitysoftwarewillperforman
immediatescanofotherpowerlineadapters.Bydefault,
theutilityautomaticallyscanseveryfewseconds.

Inthe“Privacy”tab,youcancreateaprivatenetworkbychangingthedefaultnetwork
name.
Thefollowingaredescriptionsofeverysetupitems:

networkname“HomePlugAV”.Withthesamenetwork
name,allthepowerlineadapterscanbeconnected
directly.

networknameandthenclick“SetLocalDeviceOnly”or
“Set
AllDevices”button.
UseDefault(Public
Network)
Clickthisbuttonandtheinthe“PrivateNetworkName”
columnwillbeshownthedefaultname“HomePlugAV”.
SetLocalDeviceOnly Thisbuttonisusedtochangethenetworknameofthe
localdeviceonly.Onceyouhav echangedthenetwork
nameofthelocaladapteronly,theadaptersseenonthe
“Main”tabpriortothiswillbenolongerpresentinthe
network.
