Configuration
The Sensata IQ DIY App is a powerful, yet simple tool to support remote
configuration of the 6VW sensors. With the information gathered about your
machine assets, you can quickly navigate through the Sensata DIY app and
prepare yourself for the physical installation of the devices.
Installation and Commissioning
Before beginning the installation process:
•Warning: The device must only be installed by a competent person is someone
who has the necessary technical knowledge to inspect work equipment and
plants that require monitoring. This specialist knowledge can be gained through
vocational training, professional experience and recent professional activity.
•Warning: The asset the device is to be installed on must be in a safe condition
before installation can begin.
•Warning: Do not remove or replace the battery in a hazardous area.
•Warning: Under certain extreme circumstances, the non-metallic parts
incorporated in the enclosure of this equipment may generate an ignition-
capable level of electrostatic discharge.
•Warning: The sensor shall not be installed in a location where the external
conditions are conducive to the build-up of electrostatic charge on such
surfaces.
•Warning: Do not switch the device on or off or use any of the switches in the
hazardous area.
•Warning: Do not remove or replace the battery in the hazardous area.
•Warning: Installation in an explosive environment must be in accordance with
the appropriate local, national, and international standards, codes, and
practices.
•The equipment shall only be cleaned with a damp cloth.
•The sensor shall be installed on an earthed metal frame.
•Verify the connectivity and strength of the cellular or Wi-Fi network to ensure
that the sensor will operate at the machine asset location before turning on the
device. For support contact your local Field Application Engineer at

It should be clean and free of any residue, paint, or other objects. (Consult the
Operation Manual for additional mounting options and instructions.)
4. Prepare a flat surface using a spot face tool and drill pilot hole for tapping
5. Tap for desired threading (1/4'' – 28 UNF or M8)
6. Install sensor using the stud or adapter stud (Sensata part number 6VW3-01 or
6VW3-09).
7. Turn the device on by using the slide switch.
8. Use your hand to replace and tighten the cover.
Shipping Considerations
•Contact Sensata Product Support to obtain a Return Materials Authorization
(RMA) number.
•The unit was shipped to you with the battery inside but isolated. Remove the
isolating paper tab to connect the battery. If returning the 6VW sensor, you may
remove the battery assembly prior to shipping and dispose of properly.
•Primary lithium batteries are regulated in transportation by the U.S. Department
of Transportation and are also covered by IATA (International Air Transport
Association), ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), and ADR
(European Ground Transportation of Dangerous Goods).
•It is the responsibility of the shipper to ensure compliance with these or any
other local requirements. Please consult current regulations and requirements
before shipping.

For safety reasons, however, the sensor was shipped to you with an isolating
plastic tab between the battery and the terminal. You will need to remove the
isolating tab to connect the battery before installing & commissioning the device.
Replacing the battery
The battery must not be replaced in hazardous locations.
Replace the battery assembly with only a Sensata 6VW3-05. Follow the
instructions in the User Guide for replacing the battery.
Installation Considerations
When choosing an installation location and position, consider the need for access
to the sensor.
Installation in Hazardous Areas
The device is covered by a hazardous area rating. It is the responsibility of the
user to verify that the device has the necessary approvals required for the
intended area of use. Warning: Installation in an explosive environment must be
in accordance with the appropriate local, national, and international standards,
codes, and practices. Please review this document for any restrictions associated
with safe installation. Configure the device outside of the hazardous area, prior to
installation on the machine asset. Do not switch the device on or off inside the
hazardous area.
Temperature Limits
As a safety precaution, the following limits must be observed for temperature:
Storage Temperature: -40 to +85C (-40 to + 185F)
6VW Operating Temperature: -10 to +85C (-14 to + 185F)
Hazardous area temperature:
Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D.
-40°C (-17°F) <= Tamb <=50°C (122°F)
ATEX IECEx Zone 0 Gas Intrinsically Safe
-40°C (-17°F) <= Tamb <=50°C (131°F)
General Notice
