Stainless Steel Tank-in-Tank Technology
Stainless steel inner tank
Specially designed stainless steel hot water
cylinder enclosed within an outer tank which is
heated by the boiler.Stainless steel,coupled
with the know-how of ACV,gives the domestic
hot water tank exceptional resistance to
aggressive water conditions.
Large heating surface area
The inner tank acts as a large thermal store and
is the heart of the Tank-in-Tank system. It is
totally immersed in the primary hot water and
with a large heating surface area (typically 1.5
to 2.5 times greater than that of a standard coil)
it can heat a large quantity of domestic hot
water in an exceptionally short time. Thanks to
this rapid heating capacity, the volume of water
stored can be reduced, and energy loss kept to
a minimum.
Self-descaling
The tank is free to expand and contract as a
result of the variations in pressure which occur
with every draw-off. The corrugations amplify
these movements and prevent the formation of
lime scale on the surface of the exchanger,
which retains its high performance throughout
its service life.Just one of the unique
advantages of ACV Tank-in-Tank systems.
Maintenance-free
Thanks to their stainless steel tank, the ACV
range of Tank-in-Tank products require no
anode protection and the self-descaling
feature eliminates the need for regular
descaling.A primary coil is not required and
there is no need to worry about
contamination,leaking and sludging caused by
cracked linings.
Anti-legionellae
Natural turbulence across the concave base
keeps particles in suspension,preventing
formation of sediment and - aided by high
store temperatures - helps to avoid growth of
legionellae bacteria.

The Facts about Tank-in-Tank
Like all good ideas, the ACV Tank-in-Tank concept is as simple as its
effective and like all good ideas that work really well,it’s also stood
the test of time.
The Tank-in-Tank is a DHW tank entirely immersed within an outer
tank which contains the primary fluid, with the inner tank itself being
a stainless steel heat exchanger. The corrugated wall of the inner
tank forms a large heat exchange surface that can heat the domestic
water in a very short time.
It also provides a uniform temperature throughout the volume of the
tank.Since the inner tank can move freely,it can expand and contract
under changes in pressure and prevent limescale forming on the
surface.
This simple and highly effective design allows specifiers and installers
to benefit from the cost advantages of ACVs high volume production
while taking comfort from the fact that the system they are
specifying or installing is the best there is.
Combined boilers and water heaters
Tank-in-Tank doesn’t stop at hot water storage
tanks – the design is also found throughout
our HeatMaster and Delta ranges of combined
boiler and water heaters. These are high
performance,direct fired hot water storage
heaters, which have indirect heat transfer due
to the Tank-in-Tank construction.They have
one very major advantage over other direct
fired water heaters - because they heat the
DHW with a primary circuit, this primary water
can be used to provide central heating as well.

SVM TripleTank system providing central heating and hot water :all
the proven advantages of ACV Tank-in-Tank technology with an
additional tank fed by a district heating main
Ideal for high-rise apartment blocks and dwellings fed from a central
boiler plant or district heating main
Three concentric tanks wrapped around each other :
- Stainless steel inner tank for domestic hot water
(maximum operating pressure 10 bar)
- Intermediary tank containing the central heating circuit,
provides heat transfer to the radiators at low pressure
- Outer tank contains the district heating water, operating at up
to 6 bar with low pressure drop across the tank
Compact and very easy to install, with proven reliability and minimal
maintenance :efficient,economic,quiet and safe
High quality polyurethane insulation
Stove enamelled casing complete with control panel containing
thermostats
Available in 3 models :115,140 and 180

Langdon Hills,Basildon,Essex.
This refurbishment of the heating and hot water systems for Basildon District Council of a 1960’s housing estate
utilised the existing district heating mains infrastructure together with a selection of 278 SVM TripleTanks.
The design was undertaken by G K Salter & Associates of Swanley, Kent. The installation was carried out by
Interserve FM Ltd.
Project References
Hillside Towers,Sheffield.
These apartment blocks were the first in the UK to make use of the superior characteristics of the ACV SVM
TripleTanks in District Heating. This Sheffield City Council financed refurbishment involved the total renovation of
seven 1960’s-built blocks of flats, which involved the installation of 336 SVM 115 TripleTanks. The design was
undertaken by DBS Architects of Sheffield and installed by local contractor Bumford Heating Ltd of Barnsley.
