Positioning

The Pill Dispenser is a free-standing unit which can be

placed on any flat surface within the home.

Operation

The Pill Dispenser will sound an alarm, flash a red light

and the display will show “TAKE MED” when it’s time for

the user to take their medication.

It will make the correct dosage available at the correct

time each day, at all other times the pills are securely

locked inside the dispenser.

If the pills are not taken, an alert will be sent to the

Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) or local Manager.

Warning

Certain medication should not be exposed to the air and

should therefore not be placed in automatic dispensers; if

in doubt check with a Pharmacist.

Medication Time Alert

When the alarm sounds the shutter will be unlocked. The

pills are removed from the dispenser by tilting it through

90o and pouring them into the hand.

The tilting action will silence the

alarm then re-lock the shutter

again after 2 minutes.

If the dispenser is not tilted

the alarm will continue

until the programmable

AFTER time has expired

(5 mins to 5 hours). When

half the AFTER time expires an

alarm call will be transmitted to the ARC or the

local Manager. When the full AFTER time has expired

another alarm will be transmitted and the shutter will lock

to prevent the possibility of 2 doses being taken within a

short time (i.e. potential double-dosing).

Dispenser Left Upside Down

If the Pill Dispenser is upside down when an alarm occurs,

the alarm will sound as normal, but the tray will not turn

until the dispenser is returned upright.

If more than one alarm time has passed whilst the

dispenser has been upside down the dispenser will present

the correct medication for that time.

Low Battery Condition

If the battery level falls below 20% the display will show

“LOWBATT” in sequence with the DATE/TIME.

If the batteries have not been replaced by 00:05:10 (five

minutes and 10 seconds after midnight) a low battery

condition will be reported automatically to the ARC or the

local Manager. This will repeat every night at 00:05:10

until the batteries are replaced.

If the battery percentage falls to 0% the Pill Dispenser will

cease to operate, it will bleep, and the display will show

“ERROR 10”. The battery level can be checked at any time

by tilting the dispenser forward (between 15 and 40

degrees); after the “NEXT DOSE” and “DOSES LEFT”

information the battery level remaining will be displayed

e.g. “B 75%”.

All programming is retained when the batteries are

replaced. The time may need correcting if the batteries are

left out or are completely out of charge.

Replacement batteries: 4 x 1.5V Alkaline AA Rechargeable

batteries may also be used but ensure the “BATT” function

in Menu B is set as “NIMH”.

Error Alarm

If the tray fails to rotate due to an obstruction an alarm

will sound, and the display will show ERROR 01, 04 or 08.

This can be cleared by pressing button 3. Any obstruction

should be removed. When the obstruction is cleared retest

the unit. If the fault cannot be rectified contact your

supplier.

Out of Range Notification (Reach IP/NOVO)

The Reach IP/NOVO can monitor all radio peripheral

devices to determine whether they have been damaged or

removed from an installation. Should the Reach IP be

unable to detect a device’s heartbeat it will automatically

generate a “radio out of range” notification. Firstly,

investigate if there’s a genuine reason for the alert, if not,

arrange for the peripheral device to be replaced

immediately.

The “Radio out of range timer” can be set from 30 hours to

99999 hours in Pulse CMP. “Radio supervision” can be

disabled by unchecking the tick box associated with each

peripheral device in Pulse CMP.

Self-Test Mode

The tray rotation, light and alarm sound can all be tested

and demonstrated by pressing and holding all 3 buttons

down together until TEST is displayed. Press button 3 to

start a whole alarm sequence, the display will show

“DEMO”. Close the lid and the tray will turn to the open

position.

The alarm will sound, the light will flash, and the display

will show “TAKE MED”.

Pick the dispenser up and tip forward to demonstrate

dispensing the medication.

The display will show “CLOSE” and the tray will turn to the

locked position.

Press button 3 to repeat or press and hold button 1 for a

few seconds to end.

Cleaning

Dispenser unit: do not submerge in water, wipe clean with

a damp cloth only and polish with a dry duster. Avoid using

strong detergents or furniture polish.

Internal Tray: may be washed in warm water or in a dish

washer (max 70oC).

Disposal

Waste electrical products should not be disposed

of with normal household waste. The Pill

Dispenser is ideally suited for disposal within the

waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) recycling

scheme. Please recycle where facilities exist.

Check with your local authority or contact your supplier for

recycling/disposal advice.

Loading the Pill Dispenser

The Pill Dispenser is provided with clearly printed discs.

These discs identify the day of the week and the

appropriate number of doses per day (between

1 and 4). A blank disc is provided for those on 5 or more

doses per day. Place the appropriate disc for the required

pill dosage on top of the tray taking care to line-up the

holes and push down over the 4 locating pins. Use the disc

as a guide when placing the pills. After filling, position the

tray so that the compartment with the first dose to be

taken by the user is to the right of the opening.

Resetting the Doses Left Display

Each time medication is dispensed the number of “DOSES

LEFT” will reduce by 1.

When the tray is re-filled it is important to reset the

counter by pressing button 2 until “TRAY Z” is displayed.

If the dispenser is working in the “SECURE” mode, the tray

will move a half turn to lock the shutter.

The number of “DOSES LEFT” will now be the same as the

number entered in the “FILLED” quantity setting.

Close the lid and lock with the key supplied.

The refill frequency will depend on the number of daily

doses; once a day refill every 28 days, twice a day refill

every 14 days, three times a day refill every 9 days, four

times a day refill every 7 days, etc.

How to install the Pill Dispenser

From new you will need to open

the battery compartment and

remove the battery isolation strip

shown in the photo here.

The display will show “BOOT”

followed by the software version e.g. “SW-007” then the

battery charge level “B 100%” (full charge).

When the display shows “CLOCK” and flashes “00:00” the

unit is ready to program.

There are 2 programming menus; Menu A contains the

basic settings and Menu B contains more advanced

functions. See below;

Menu A Settings

Press button 1 to cycle through the following functions;

CLOCK  DATE  DOSES  ALARMS

Press and hold button 1 for 3 seconds to exit the menu and

revert to normal operation.

Setting the Clock

Press button 1 once and CLOCK is displayed.

Press button 2/3 to set the time (00:00 to 23:59) Note:

press and hold for fast forward/reverse

Press button 1 to end and DATE will be displayed.

Setting the Date

The DATE display will change to YY after a few secs.

Press button 2/3 to set the YEAR (00 to 99)

Press button 1 and MM will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the MONTH (01 to 12)

Press button 1 and DD will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the DATE (01 to 31)

Press button 1 to end and DOSES will be displayed.

Setting the Number of Doses per Day

The DOSES display will change to display the number of

doses per day after a few seconds.

Press button 2/3 to set the doses per day (00 to 24)

Press button 1 to end and ALARMS will be displayed.

Setting the Alarm Times for each Dose

The ALARMS display will change to display the time for the

first dose after a few seconds.

Press button 2/3 to set the time for the first dose

Press button 1 to end then set alarm time 2

Repeat for each alarm time, the number of alarm times is

determined by the “number of doses per day” set above.

Menu B Settings

Press and hold button 3 until BEFORE is displayed then

press button 1 to cycle through; AFTER SOUND LIGHT

FILLED BATT SECURE HOURS  DLS START

STOP RECORD

Press and hold button 1 for 3 seconds to exit the menu and

revert to normal operation.

Setting the Before Time

The BEFORE time allows medication to be taken up to 5

hours earlier than the next alarm time.

If this option is set the user may access their medication in

advance by turning the Pill Dispenser upside down then

back upright again twice in succession, the tray will rotate

one step and the next dose will become available.

Press and hold button 3 until BEFORE is displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the before time (00:00 = not

required, to 05:00 max)

Press button 1 to end and AFTER will be displayed.

Setting the After Time

The AFTER time sets how long the alarm sounds and the

pill shutter remains unlocked after the medication is due.

If half the AFTER time expires an alarm call will be

transmitted. If the full AFTER time expires another alarm

call will be transmitted and the pill shutter will lock shut.

After AFTER is displayed;

Press button 2/3 to set the after time (00:05 to 05:00)

Press button 1 to end and SOUND will be displayed.

Setting the Alarm Sound

The alarm SOUND will play to alert the user when it is time

to take their medication. It will sound every 5 seconds for

the first minute, then every 8 seconds up to 1 hour then

once a minute until the medication is dispensed or the

AFTER time is reached, maximum 5 hours.

After SOUND is displayed;

Press buttons 2/3 to select the preferred sound (01 to 04).

Select 00 for no sound.

Press button 1 to end and LIGHT will be displayed.

Setting the Light On/Off

The LIGHT will flash to alert the user when it is time to take

their medication. It will flash every 5 seconds for the first

minute, then every 8 seconds up to 1 hour then once every

16 seconds until the medication is dispensed or the AFTER

time is reached, maximum 5 hours.

After LIGHT is displayed;

Press button 2 for no light (display shows OFF)

Press button 3 for light (display shows ON)

Press button 1 to end and FILLED will be displayed.

Setting the Filled Quantity

This is the number of doses placed in the medication tray

when filled and allows the DOSES LEFT display to be

shown.

After FILLED is displayed;

Press button 2/3 to set the FILLED quantity (00 to 28)

Press button 1 to end and BATT will be displayed.

Setting the Battery Type

It is possible to use 4 x AA size alkaline or 4 x AA size

rechargeable batteries in the Pill Dispenser.

After BATT is displayed;

Press button 2 to select alkaline (ALC)

Press button 3 to select rechargeable (NIMH)

Press button 1 to end and SECURE will be displayed.

Setting the Secure Mode

With SECURE mode ON the pill shutter will be locked

except at alarm time and during the subsequent after time.

With SECURE mode OFF the shutter does not lock.

After SECURE is displayed;

Press button 2 to select secure mode ON

Press button 3 to select secure mode OFF

Press button 1 to end and HOURS will be displayed.

Setting the Hours Mode

The clock can be set to display the time in 12 hour AM/PM

mode or 24 hour mode.

After HOURS is displayed;

Press button 2 to select 12 hour clock (AM/PM)

Press button 3 to select 24 hour clock

Press button 1 to end and DLS will be displayed.

Setting the Daylight Saving Mode

The clock can be set to automatically adjust +/- 1 hour

every March/October for GMT/BST.

After DLS is displayed;

Press button 2/3 to select OFF/EU/US

Set EU for Europe, US for America or OFF to disable.

Press button 1 to end and START will be displayed.

Setting the Start Time

It is possible to delay the time at which the dispenser will

start to operate (useful if the dispenser is being filled off

site and being delivered to the user later).

After START is displayed the display will change to YY after

a few seconds;

Press button 2/3 to set the YEAR (00 to 99)

Press button 1 and MM will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the MONTH (01 to 12)

Press button 1 and DD will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the DATE (01 to 31)

Press button 1 and HH will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the HOUR (01 to 23)

Press button 1 to end and STOP will be displayed.

The time (HH) should be in advance of the first dose to be

dispensed for the user.

Setting the Stop Time

It is possible to stop the dispenser’s operation at a future

date and time. This is useful if two dispensers are being

used by one user in sequence and this ensures only one

dispenser is active at one time.

After STOP is displayed the display will change to YY after a

few seconds;

Press button 2/3 to set the YEAR (00 to 99)

Press button 1 and MM will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the MONTH (01 to 12)

Press button 1 and DD will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the DATE (01 to 31)

Press button 1 and HH will be displayed

Press button 2/3 to set the HOUR (01 to 23)

Press button 1 to end and RECORD will be displayed.

The time (HH) should be after the last dose to be dispensed

for the user. If the function is not required set the year to

99.

Record Function

The dispenser will record the actual times the previous 28

medications were dispensed.

After RECORD is displayed;

Press button 2/3 to scroll through the actual times the last

28 medications were taken.

Press button 1 to end.

Telecare Radio ID

The Pill Dispenser includes a radio transceiver to

communicate with the Reach IP, XT2, Carer Response or

NOVO.

Pill Dispenser Alarm Test Call

Check a pill dispenser alarm is reported by letting the Pill

Dispenser deliver a dose, DO NOT tilt the unit to TAKE the

dose, and let half the AFTER time expire.

HINT: to speed-up the test adjust the CLOCK to few

minutes before the next dose time and reduce the AFTER

time to 5 minutes.

Note: don’t forget to reset the clock/after time when the

test call is complete.

Alternatively, open the lid on the Pill Dispenser, press and

hold all 3 buttons together until TEST is displayed, press

button 3, the display will show DEMO and an alarm

transmission will be made during the demo.

Note: press and hold button 1 on the Pill Dispenser to exit

the DEMO mode.

Registering the Pill Dispenser onto a Reach IP

Reach IP Serial No. in the ALARM UNIT view. Press the

Accessories button and enter the Radio ID code, Location

and Equipment type. Press Save then  Synchronize.

IMPORTANT: when the Pill Dispenser is delivered to the

customer a test call must be made to check operation and

start the digital heartbeat.

Alternatively, with the Reach IP in normal operating mode

undo the fixing screw and remove the stand or connector

cover to access the ⚫ Power button.

Press the ⚫ Power button to enter Control Mode, then

press and hold the  button until the unit announces

“add radio device” then release.

Press the ⚫ button to confirm then activate a Pill

Dispenser alarm test call.

The Reach IP unit will sound a high beep if it’s a new

device and announce “range test mode”.

Press ⚫ to confirm, or press  to step to the next

function, or press  to exit the mode.

Activate a test call to check operation.

Registering the Pill Dispenser onto an XT2

Press the Settings button on the Home page of the

Manager’s Panel. Press the Manager (or Engineer) button,

enter the password and press the Programming button.

Select the Program Radio Devices option from the tabs

along the bottom of the screen.

Press Flat ID and enter the flat number the Pill Dispenser

is being installed in. Enter 4-digits e.g. 0014.

Press Radio ID and enter the 10-digit code taken from the

label on the bottom of the Pill Dispenser.

Press Room Locations and select “no location” as the Pill

Dispenser is a portable device.

Press the Send button to update the XT2 system.

Activate a test call to check operation.

Registering the Pill Dispenser onto a Carer Response

Refer to the Carer Response

user manual for full details

of the button functions and

how to navigate the menus.

From the Main menu select

Programming.

From the Programming menu select

Add transmitter.

The display will prompt you to Activate the transmitter…

Activate a Pill Dispenser alarm test call.

The Carer Response will beep and the display will change

to the Add transmitter menu with a box showing No ID.

Press  then  to select Room, then press 

Press  to select the room number box 0000.

Press  to select the first digit, press  to move between

the digits and press  or  to change each digit.

Press  when the correct room number is displayed.

Press  to select the alarm type box None.

Press  then to select Assistance then press 

Press the  button to select Save then press 

The display will show Radio ID saved to memory…

Return to the Main menu and select Quit.

Activate a test call to check operation.

Registering the Pill Dispenser onto a Neat NOVO

Start your NOVO with the AC adapter attached.

Pairing using CMP

and enter the NOVO serial number

in the CAREPHONE view.

Perform a search to locate the NOVO.

Select Accessories and thereafter New.

Enter the Radio ID code and the Equipment type.

The Radio ID can be found on the Pill Dispenser alarm

label.

Be sure to enter all 10 characters then press Save.

Wait and thereafter perform a Refresh, it may take up to

30 minutes for accessory to be added.

Make an Alarm Test Call in the Pill Dispenser to check

operation in the CMP Alarm log.

Pairing using the NOVO Service Mode

Enter Service mode by a short press on the Power switch.

(Button B1, B2 & B3 are lit)

Then press and hold button B3

until “Add transmitter” is announced.

(Button B1 is lit and Button B3 is flashing)

Press button B1 to confirm.

(Button B1, B2 & B3 are flashing)

Activate the Pill Dispenser test alarm.

The NOVO will sound a high beep and

announce “range test mode”.

The pairing is done.

Exit Service mode by pressing button B2.

(Button B1 is lit).

Make an Alarm Test Call in the Pill Dispenser to check

operation in the CMP Alarm log.
