INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction: This technical bulletin is to inform the field how to step by step install ULT 48, 60 and 72
defrost heaters. This technical bulletin may not cover all situations that may arise in the field and final
diagnosis of field based equipment is the sole responsibility of the technician contracted to perform any

Install Instructions:
1. First unplug the unit and empty the unit of all product and shelves.

2. Remove the shelving brackets (far left of above picture); these are held in with thumb screws.
Next remove top (hat) and the aluminum side panels. After this step is done you should have the
below picture.
3. Next remove the dual evaporator fan panel on top, followed by the two galvanized side pieces. A
few zip ties may need to be removed to allow slack to set this piece aside. This would be a good
point to test the heaters resistance before proceeding any further.

4. Remove the screws holding the evaporator in place then lift the front side, bending the copper
upwards temporarily and carefully. With a pair of needle nose pliers remove the heater clips from
under the evaporator.
5. Unplug defrost heater connections and fish out of housing, angle front side upwards as much as
possible and remove the either side of the housing. Once removed test resistance again. If
determined the defrost heater needs to be replaced. Check with your supervisor about returning
the defective part to Traulsen.
