Window / Child Guard Installation Instructions

Before installation, contact your local building code department or fire department for specific
codes related to this installation.
Make sure that your window frame is in good condition, and can accept the fasteners used in
this installation.
Use only the approved fasteners supplied with this product.
Fasteners should always be firmly anchored to a solid stud or window frame material for
maximum safety. Never anchor fasteners to decorative molding.
Always use the provided stops or “L” brackets to limit the inside sash from opening more than
4" higher than the top horizontal member. (This is a building code requirement. )
This window guard is intended to protect against potential window falls by children age 10 &
under.
Window guards are designed to be a deterrent to accidental window falls. This product is not
intended as a substitute for proper adult supervision.
This egress model is equipped with a release mechanism for emergency access, and it should
only be opened in case of an emergency or if conducting a test on the release mechanism.
Test the release mechanism once a month to ensure proper operation.
All household members 10 years of age and older should be instructed on the operation of the
release mechanism in case of an emergency.
Window guards are not meant for, and should never be used as protection against intruders.

1/8” or 9/64” Twist Drill
Parts Included:
Window Guard, 1 Hardware Pack
(10 Screws, 1 Ball Lock Pin,
2 ‘L’ Brackets, Instructions)
Make sure that the size of your window does
not exceed the stated size range that can be
found on your window guard product label.
Be sure there is no more than a 4 inch
opening anywhere in the guarded area.
Installing Outside Window Frame
1. Position window guard assembly outside window frame. Mount with the hinges and labels facing you. Determine
hinge location, (RH or LH) depending on the swing desired. (figure 1) Note: Leave enough space between the
guard and window so that normal operation of window is not restricted.

2. Fasten the hinge side of guard with one standoff tube (or mounts) to window frame using the three screws
provided. Keep the guard level vertically with a bubble level. Screws must be fastened into a solid stud
or frame. (figure 2) Note: steel framed windows, pre-drill with a 9/64" drill bit. Attach with 5/16" slotted
screwdriver. Do not tighten until final adjustment.

7. Position 2 window stop brackets with the holes placed against the sash track and the
stop resting on the top of the sash. Mark the position of the bracket holes on the sash
track.
8. Remove the brackets and pre-drill the holes for the four fasteners.
9. Fasten the window stop brackets in position. raise the sash to the window stops and verify that the gap is at
4" or less. (figure 5)

6 Place inside sash in a position so that the measurement from the bottom of the sash to
the top of The highest horizontal tube is 4" or less.
You Must Install Window Stops (applies to
double hung windows only)
This is a building code requirement.
If the open space from the BOTTOM of the FULLY OPENED WINDOW to the TOP of the
HIGHEST HORIZONTAL Window Guard tube exceeds FOUR (4) INCHES:

3. Attach vertical lock tube and standoff tube (or mounts) to opposite side of
window. Insure standoff tube (or mounts) is level with hinge side of window
guard and attach with one-way screws provided. (figure 3) Do not tighten
until final adjustment.
4. Check lock tube alignment with window guard. Close window guard and insert
lock pin. Adjust standoff tube (or mounts) up or down for proper fit of reten
tion pin. Tighten standoff tube (or mounts) and window guard screws. After
installation, test guard for proper quick release operation. (figure 4)
5. Raise the inside sash to its maximum height and measure from the bottom of
the sash to the top of the highest horizontal tube. If the measurement exceeds
4", you must use the provided window stops.If the measurement is 4" or less,
skip: Window Stop steps 6-9.

1. Hook finger in split ring (1) and pull away from retention pin assembly in order to remove keeper pin from assembly.
2. Grasp tab (2) and pull off the end of the retention pin (3).
3. Grasp keeper wire (4) and pull retention pin (3) from window guard assembly.
Guard retention pin release mechanism should be operated once
a month to ensure proper operation. All household members 10
years of age and older should be instructed on the operation of
the release mechanism.
