1. Introduction
Before assembling, please read this manual. Familiarize yourself with the process and the necessary
precautions for efficient and safe assembly of this Grain Guard Next Generation 9000 & 10000.
Everyone present at the assembly site is required to be familiar with all safety precautions.
Keep this manual available for frequent reference and review it with new personnel. Call your local
distributor or dealer if you need assistance or additional information.
1.1. General Description
The Grain Guard Next Generation 9000 & 10000 is an excellent addition to any new or existing hopper bottom
bin that does not presently include an aeration system. It can allow you to harvest in damp conditions, maintain
stored grain in peak condition, and reduce the likelihood of mould growth and insect infestations.
Our Grain Guard Next Generation 9000 & 10000 tubes have been re-engineered to provide many value added
features. These features include:
Newly designed support ring is lighter and meets or exceeds strength of previous design.
Louver direction has been optimized to prevent open area blocking, lessen grain drag during unloading and
reduce the amount of debris entering the tube.
New section lengths allow for assembly lengths of 6'—14' in 1' increments, thus maximizing available airflow
into the bin.
Following the guidelines listed in the Intended section will ensure the system will function as intended and will
last for years to come.
It is important to note that the Grain Guard tube aeration system has been designed to use in 40 degree
hoppers. Contact Grain Guard prior to using this system with hopper angles other than 40 degrees.
1.2. Intended Use
The tube aeration is intended for use as listed below and described throughout this manual. Use in any other
way is considered contrary to the intended use and is not covered by the warranty.
Note
Always inspect all tubes and supports prior to filling the bin.
Do not leave tube assembly in bins used for fertilizer storage.

3.3. Hopper Diameter: 14' to 21'
3.3.1 Tube Selection
Tube Diameter
The Grain Guard tube aeration is available in two diameters:
18" (9000 Series) — for 14' to 16' bin diameter
24" (10000 Series) — for 16' to 21' bin diameter
Note
Tube diameter is typically dictated by hopper design. Consult your hopper supplier for the required tube
diameter.
Tube Length
Tube sections are available in two lengths:
• 3'
• 4'
This allows for the assembled lengths of 6' — 12'. Lengths over 12' are not recommended. See Table 1 for
maximum tube length for a given bin diameter and tube length. Use the bin diameter and dimension Y to find
the maximum tube length.

Important considerations when choosing tube sections:
1. Ideally the length of the tube is centered in the hopper (dimension X = dimension Z, see Figure 1 on page 8).
2. Dimension X is not less than 5".
3. If the dimension Z exceeds the centered dimension shown in Table 1 on page 9, follow one of the three
options below:
Trim the inlet length to recommended length, if the hopper design allows. This option is ideal as it utilizes
all available louvered area.
Telescope the tube assembly into the inlet until the gap between the end of the tube and hopper is 5", if
inlet length allows. This option is not utilizing all available louvered area.
Order a 1' shorter tube assembly. This option is not utilizing the available hopper space. It also reduces
the potential airflow.

3.3.2 Support System
To withstand the forces that the aeration tube is subjected to during loading/unloading and settling of grain in
the bin, it is extremely important to properly support the tube assembly. This is best accomplished by providing
a full span cradle to support the tube inside the bin. See Figure 2 for a recommended design.
Recommendations must be followed as listed below. Failure to meet these recommendations will void the
warranty.
Do not install system in bins where the sidewall heights exceed 22 ft and/or diameter exceeds 21 ft.
The support system needs to be manufactured from a minimum 1/4" thick 2" X 2" square tubing or material
of equivalent structural strength.
Cross braces should be placed in the center of the support system.
Additional cross braces are required to be placed symmetrically on either side of center support. Spacing of
these supports should not exceed 42", add additional braces if unbraced span exceeds 42".
Horizontal and vertical supports should be attached to the hopper with a 3/16" thick pad not less than
36 square inches in area.

3.4.1 Tube Selection
Tube Diameter
The 24" (10000 Series) Grain Guard tube aeration is available for 24' bin diameter.
Tube Length
Tube sections are available in two lengths:
• 3'
• 4'
For a 24' diameter hopper it is recommended to use a tube that is 14' long. This tube should be comprised of
two 3' and two 4' tube sections. The sequence of tubes from the inlet should follow a 3'/3'/4'/4' pattern as
shown in Figure 4.

Spacing of cradle members is recommended to be 18" on centers. See Figure 6 on page 14.
Cross braces between cradle members should be spaced in the center of the bin with vertical supports that
are bolted to the hopper, as close as possible to the throat.
Additional cross braces are required to be placed symmetrically on either side of center support. Spacing of
these supports should not exceed 42", add additional braces if unbraced span exceeds 42".
If additional vertical supports are required avoid locating the bottom ends at the midpoint of the cone sheet
where the deflection is the greatest. Consider moving closer to more rigid locations such as closer to the
throat or the ring beam if possible.
Consider fastening cradle ends to a point higher up on the cone sheet as close as possible to the ring beam
where cone sheet deflection under load is minimal.
Horizontal and vertical supports should be attached to the hopper with a 3/16" thick pad not less than 36
square inches in area.
