1. SAFETY
1.1 General
WARNING: Ensure you understand and follow all the safety guidelines, safety instructions, w arnings and
cautions mentioned in this manual.
WARNING: Be aw are of suspended loads.

Notice on safety
This equipment is built in acco rdance with the requi
rements of the international safety standards IEC60950-1, EN60950-1,
UL60950-1 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No.60950-1, which are the safety standards of information technology equipment including
electrical business equipmen t. These safety standards impose important requirements on the us e of safety critical co mponents,
materials and insulation, in or der to protect th
e user or operator against risk of electric shock and energy hazard, and having
access to live parts. Safety standards also impose limits to the internal and external temperature r ises, radiation levels, mechanical
stability and s trength, enclosure construction and protection against the risk of re. Simulated s ingle fault condition testing ensures
the safety of the equipment to the user even wh
en the equipment’s norm al operation fails.
Restricted access location
The FLM must be installed in a restricted access location, due to the temperature rise of parts of the equipment (air outlet).

A location for equipment where both of t
he following paragraphs apply:
1) Acc ess can only be gained by S ERVICE PER SO NS or by USERS who have been instructed about the reasons for
the restriction applied to the location a nd about the precautions that shall be taken.
2) Access is through the use of the tool or lock and key, or other means of security, and is controlled by the authority
responsible for the location.

1.2 Important safety instructions
To prevent the risk of electrical shock
This product should be operated from a m ono phase AC power s ource. Power input voltage range must be between 200-240
VAC, 50/60Hz, 20 amps max imum at 230 VA C.
The power cord of the FLM is equipped with a 3-wire grounding plug, a plug having a third (grounding) pin. This plug will only
t into a grounding-type IEC 60309 power outlet. This is a safety feature. Mains po wer cord with IEC 60309 plug:

Warning: This apparatus must be grounded (earthed) via the supplied 3 conductor AC power cable. If
the supplied power
cable is not the c orrect one, consult your dealer.
If you are u nable to insert the plug into the outlet, c ontact y our electrician to replace your obsolete o utlet w ith respect to the
local regulations. Do not defeat the purpose of the grounding-type plug.
Do not a llow anything to r est on the power cord. Do not locate this product where per sons will walk on the cord. To disconnect
the cord, pull it out by the p lug. Never pull the cord itself.
If an extension cord is used with this product, m ake sure that the total of the ampere ratings on the products plugged into the
extension cord doe s not exceed the extension cord am pere rating.
Use only the power cord supplied w ith your device. While appearing to be similar, other power cords have not been safety
tested at the factory and may not be used to power the device. For a replacement power cord, contact your dealer.
Never push objects of any kind into this p roduct through cabinet slots as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out
parts that c ould resu lt in a risk of re or electrical shock.
Never spill liquid of any kind on the product. Should any liquid or solid object fall into the cabinet, unplug the set and have it
checked by qualied service personnel before resuming operations.
Lightning - For added protection for this video product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long
periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. T his will prevent damag e to the de vice due to lightning and AC power-line surges.

To prevent personal injury
Isolated electrically before re-lamping. Caution : hot lam p (house).
Caution: High pressure lamp may explode if impro perly handled. Refer s ervicing to qualied service personnel. Th e customer
should never attempt to disassemble the lamp casing or to dispose of the lamp c asing oth er than by returning it to Barco.
To reduce the lamp heat of the projector, switch the projector rst to standby and let the projector lamp cool d own for at least 5
minutes. Then the projector may be switched off w ith the power switch.
To prevent injury a nd physical damage, always read this manual and all labels on the system before inserting the lamp casing,
connecting to the wall outlet or adjusting the projector.
To prevent injury, take note of the weight of the projector. Minimum 4 persons are nee ded to carry the FLM.
To prevent injury, ensure that the lens and all cover plates are correctly installed. See installation procedures.
Warning: high intensity light beam . N EV ER look into the lens ! High luminance c ould result in injury to the ey e.
Before attempting to remove any of the projector ’s cove rs, y ou must disc onnect from the wall outlet.
When performing setup work to a ceiling mounted projector, to prevent injury caused by falling objects or the system, set out
a keep out area.
Consult a professional structural engineer prior to suspending the projector from a structure n ot intended for that us e. Always
ensure that the working load limit of the structure c an handle the load of the projector.
Never stack more than two (2) FLM projectors in a hanging conguration (truss) and never stack more than three (3) F LM
projectors in a base stand conguration (table mount).
The power input at the projector side is considered as the dis connect device. When required to sw itch off the device, to ac cess
parts inside, always disconnect the power cord a t the bas e of the device. In case the power input at the base of the dev ice is
not acces sible (e.g. ceiling mou nt), the socket outlet supplying the device shall be installed near by the device and be easily
accessible, or a readily ac cessible general disconnect device shall be incorporated in the xed wiring.
Do not place this equipmen t on an unstable cart, stand, or table. T he product may fall, causing serious damage to it and
possible injury to the user.
When mounting the device to the ceiling or to a rigging system, always mount security chains.
It is hazardous to operate without lens or shield. Shields, lenses or utra-vilolet screens sh all be changed if they have becom e
visible damaged to such an extent that their effectiveness is impaired. For example by cracks or deep scratches.
Warning: Protection from ultraviolet radiation: Do not look directly in the light beam. The lamp contained in this product is
an intense source of light and heat. One component of the light emitted from this lamp is ultraviolet light. P otential eye and skin
hazards are present when the lamp is ener gized due to ultraviolet radiation. Avoid unneces sary exposure. P rotect yourself and
your employees by making them aware of the hazards and how to protect thems elves. Protecting the skin can be ac com plished
by w earing tightly woven garments and gloves. Protecting the ey es from UV can be ac comp lished by wea ring safety glasses
that are designed to provide UV pr otection. In addition to the UV, the visible light from the lamp is intense and should also b e
considered when ch oosing pr otective eye wear.
Exposure to UV radiation: Some m edications are known to make individuals e xtra sensitive to UV radiation. The Amer ican
Conference of Governm ental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) recommends occupational UV exposure f or an-8hour day to be
less than 0.1 microwatts per s quare centimeters of effective UV radiation. An e valuation of the wor kplace is ad vised to assu re
employees are not exposed to c umulative radiation levels exceeding these government guidelines.
Cooling liquid circuit. The device head contains a cooling circuit lled with Blue antifreeze d iluted ( 1/3 ethanediol 2/3 Dem i
wate r).
When the cooling circuit leaks, switch off the device and c
ontact a service technician.
The liquid is not for household use. Keep out of reach of children. Harmful by oral intake. Avoid exposure to pregnant women.
Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Avoid inhale of the nox ious fumes.
To prevent device damage
The FLM has been des igned for use with a specic lamp (house) type. See installation instructions for its correct type.
If the air lters are not regularly replaced, the air ow inside the projector could be disr upted, caus ing overheating. Overheating
may lead to the projector shutting down during operation.
In order to ensure that correct airow is maintained, and that the devic e complies with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
requirements, and for safety requirements, it should always be o perated with all of it’s covers in place.
Slots and o penings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the produc t and to protect it from
overheating, these openings mus t not be blocked or covered. T he openings should never be blocked by placing the p roduct
on a bed, sofa, rug, or other sim ilar surface. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. The
device shou ld not be plac ed in a built-in installation or enclosure unless proper ventilation is provided.
Do not block the projector cooling fans or free air movement under and around the projector. Loose papers or other objects
may not be nearer to the projector than 10 cm (4") on any side.
The device must always be m ounted in a m anner which ensur es free ow of air into its air inlets and unimpeded evacua tion of
the hot air exha usted from its cooling system. Heat sensitive materials should not be placed in the path of the exhausted air.
Leave at least a free safety area of 1 meter (40”) at the rear of the projector.
Ensure that nothing can be spilled on, or drop
ped inside the projector. If this does happen, s w itch off and unplug the mains
supply imme diately. Do not operate the projector again until it has been checked by qualied service technicians.
Consult a professional structural engineer when you have the intention to use this projector as ceiling mounted projector. Always
ensure the working load lim it of the structure supporting the projector.
Do not us e this equipment near water.

Special Care for Laser B eams : Special care should be used when D LP p rojectors are used in the sam e roo m as high power
laser equipment. D irect or indirect hitting of a laser beam on to the lens can severely da mage the Digital Mirror Devices

which case there is a loss of warranty.
Never place a F LM in direct sun light. Sun light on the lens can severely damage the Digital Mirro r Dev ices
TM
in which case
there is a loss of warranty.
Save the o riginal packing m aterial; they will c ome in handy if you ever have t o ship your equipm ent. For maximum protection,
repack your set as it was originally pac ked at the factory.
Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol c leaners. Use a damp cloth for
cleaning. Never use strong solvents, such as thinner or benzine, or abra sive cleaners, since these wil
l damag e the cabinet.
Stubborn s tains may be rem oved with a cloth lightly dampened with mild detergent solution.
To ensure the highes t optical performance and reso lution, the projection lenses are specially treated with an anti-reective
coating, therefore, avoid touching the lens . To remove dust on the lens, use a soft dry cloth. Do not use a damp cloth, detergent
solution, or thinner.

The lamp hou se shall be r eplaced if it has become damaged or thermally deformed.
To prevent battery explosion
Danger of explosion if battery is inco rrectly installed.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.
Dispose of u sed batteries according to the manufacturer’s instruction.
To prevent re hazard
Warning “ Risk of re”. Do not place ammable or combustible m aterials near the projector !
This projector radiates heat on its external surfaces and from ventilation ducts during normal operation, which is both normal
and safe. Exposing ammable or combustible materials into clos e pro ximity of this projector could result in the spontaneous
ignition of that m aterial, r esulting in a re. F or this reason, it is absolutely necessary to leav e an “exclusion zone” around all
external su rfaces of the projector whereby no ammable or c ombus tible materials are present. The exclusion zone must be not
less than 40 cm (18”). The ex clusion zone o n the lens side must be at least 2 m (80”).
Do not cover t he projector or the lens with any m aterial w hile the projector is in operation.
Mount the device in a well ventilated area away from sources of ignition and out of direct sun light.
Never expose the projector to rain or moisture.
In the event of re, use sand, CO
2
, or dry powder re extinguishers; never us e water on an electrical re.
This pro duct should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register.
This projector should not be placed in a built-in installation or enclosure unless proper ventilation is pro vided.
The operation room must be well ventilated or cooled in ord er to av oid build up of he
at.
On servicing
Do not attem pt to service this product yourself, as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage potentials
and risk of electric s hock.
Refer all servicing to qualied s ervice person nel.
Fence off a restricted area of a t least 3 m eters around the projector using an eye-catching fence and “KEEP OU T” signs . This
to prevent unauthorized persons coming near the projector duri
ng servicing.
Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualied service technicians under the following conditions:
- When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed.
- If liquid has bee n spilled into the equipment.
- If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
- If the product does not operate normally wh en the operating instructions are followed. Adjust only those controls that are
covered by the operating instructions since im proper adjustm ent of the other controls may result in dam age and will often
require extensive work by a qualied technician to restore the product to normal operation.
- If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
- If the product exhibits a distinct change in per formance, indicating a need for service.
Replacement parts: When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used original Barco replace-
ment parts. Unauthorized substitutions may result in degraded performance and reliability, re, electric s hock or other hazards.
Unauthorized substitutions may void warranty.
Safety check: Upon completion of any service or repairs to this device, as k the service technician to perform safety checks to
determine that the product is in proper operating condition.
Lamp replacement: high pres sure lamp may explode if improperly handled.

1.3 Important warnings concerning FLM ight cases
Important warnings concerning stacking/transporting FLM rental ight c ases
Stack m aximum two (2 ) FLM rental ight cases high. Never higher.
Surface on wh ich ight cas e is standing must be level to ensure that the total load is evenly spread out among the four wheels.
The surface must also be able to support the load sa fely.
Before stacking or transporting ight cases, check the wheels and their xation screws for wear or defects.
Before stacking or transporting ight cases, check that the four lock handles on each ight case are in good working order and
locked securely.
When stacked, make sure the wheels of the upper ight c ase are precisely positioned in the stacking dishes of the ight cas e
below.
•Stackedight cases may not be moved. Before stacking, the lower ight case must alrea dy be in its n al resting position before
placing the second upon it.
Never stack loaded ight cases in a truck or other transport medium , un less each ight case is rigidly strapped tight.
In the event of a wheel breaking, ight cases m ust be rigidly strapped tight to prevent a stack collapsing.
Use an appropriate forklift to raise ight cases and take the nec essary pr ecautions to avoid personnel injury.
