MIL-9200X MEDIA CONVERSION SYSTEM
Chapter 1: Introduction
Chapter 1 gives an overall description of the MIL-9200X Media
Conversion System.
1.1 Overview of the MIL-9200X
The MIL-9200X Media Conversion System is a 16-slot rack mount
assembly that can support up to sixteen different MiLAN media
conversion devices.
MiLANs MIL-4750 Master and MIL-4755 Slave devices are used to man-
age the MIL-9200X using SNMP. The Master or Slave module is installed
in the rear of the MIL-9200X.
The Media Conversion System can accommodate media converters that
support Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, ATM or a combina-
tion of all these technologies. The MIL-9200X is “hot-swappable,” mean-
ing you can remove and replace media converters without powering down
the device.
1.1.1 Features
The MIL-9200X offers the following features:
4Fits into a 19" rack in a 2U size slot
4One on-board power supply, with a second bay
for one additional hot swappable, load balancing,
redundant power supply
4Diagnostic LEDs indicating power supply status
1.2 Media Converters
The MIL-9200X supports a variety of MiLAN designed devices. Refer to
the individual devices installation guide for configuration and installation
information for each device.

Chapter 2: Installation
Chapter 2 gives installation information for a MIL-9200X Media
Conversion System.
2.1 Installation Requirements
Before installing the MIL-9200X, make sure you have the following:
4MIL-9200X Media Conversion System
4Power supply (Two if necessary for redundancy)
4Two right-angle mounting brackets
4Four 10-32 x 1/2 Binding HD cap screws or equivalent
4Power cord
4Standard, Phillips screwdriver (not included)

2.2 Installation
To install a MIL-9200X Media Conversion System:
1. Install the two mounting brackets, one on each side of the unit.
Line up the bracket holes to the holes on the chassis. Use the
phillips head screws (supplied) to secure the brackets.
2. Install the MIL-9200X into a 2U size slot in a rack. Use the screws
supplied with the rack to secure the device to the rack.
Note: For safety reasons, MiLAN recommends that two people install the
MIL-9200X. One person should hold the unit while the other secures
the MIL-9200X to the rack. Also, excessive jarring of the unit may
damage the internal components and void the warranty.
3. Add the second power supply, if applicable. (See section 2.3 of
this Users Guide for more detailed instructions.)
4. Populate the bays with media converters and/or SNMP agents.
Refer to the individual device documentation for installation
instructions.
5. Plug the power cord (or cords) into the unit and then into the
appropriate power source. Power 1 and/or Power 2 LEDs will
illuminate.
6. Refer to the individual device documentation for installation of the
MIL-4750 Master or MIL-4755 Slave.
The device is now ready for network connections.

2.3 Installing a Second Power Supply
To install a redundant power supply:
1. At the rear of the Media Conversion System, remove the
screws securing the blank face plate and remove it from the
chassis.
2. Place the edges of the power supply in the guide rails in the
open bay and slide the power supply module into the bay.
3. Press the power supply into the mating connector. Make
sure it is seated properly in the connector.
4. Secure the module with the two screws located on the face
plate of the power supply module.
