GENERAL

INTRODUCTION

This xture has been designed to perform reliably for years when the information in this manual are

followed. Please read and understand all the instructions and guidelines carefully and thoroughly

before operating this unit. This manual contains important information regarding safety, installation,

use, and maintenance.

UNPACKING

Each xture has been thoroughly tested and shipped in perfect operating condition. Carefully check

the outer shipping carton for signs of any damage that may have occurred during shipping. If the

outer carton appears to be damaged, carefully inspect the xture for damage and be sure all included

accessories have arrived intact. In the event damage has been found and/or parts are missing, please

contact our customer support team for further instructions. Please do NOT return this xture to your

dealer without rst contacting customer support at the number listed below. Please do NOT discard

the outer shipping carton in the trash. Please recycle whenever possible.

WARRANTY RETURNS

All returned service items, whether under warranty or not, must be freight pre-paid and accompanied

by a return authorization (R.A.) number. The R.A. number must be clearly written on the outside of the

return package. A brief description of the problem as well as the R.A. number must also be written

down on a piece of paper and included in the shipping container. If the unit is under warranty, you

must provide a copy of your proof of purchase invoice. Items returned without an R.A. number clearly

marked on the outside of the package will be refused and returned at customer’s expense. You may

obtain an R.A. number by contacting customer support.

LIMITED WARRANTY (USA ONLY)

A. ADJ Products, LLC hereby warrants, to the original purchaser, ADJ Products, LLC products to be

free of manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for a prescribed period from the date

of purchase (see specific warranty periods below). This warranty shall be valid only if the product

is purchased within the United States of America, including possessions and territories. It is the

owner’s responsibility to establish the date and place of purchase by acceptable evidence, at the

time service is sought.

B. For warranty service you must obtain a Return Authorization number (RA#) before sending back

the product–please contact ADJ Products, LLC Service Department at 800-322-6337. Send the

product only to the ADJ Products, LLC factory. All shipping charges must be pre-paid. If the

requested repairs or service (including parts replacement) are within the terms of this warranty,

ADJ Products, LLC will pay return shipping charges only to a designated point within the United

States. If the entire instrument is sent, it must be shipped in its original package. No accessories

should be shipped with the product. If any accessories are shipped with the product, ADJ

Products, LLC shall have no liability whatsoever for loss of or damage to any such accessories, or

for the safe return thereof.

C. This warranty is void if the serial number has been altered or removed; if the product is modified

in any manner which ADJ Products, LLC concludes, after inspection, affects the reliability of the

product; if the product has been repaired or serviced by anyone other than the ADJ Products, LLC

factory unless prior written authorization was issued to purchaser by ADJ Products, LLC; if the

product is damaged because not properly maintained as set forth in the instruction manual.

D. This is not a service contract, and this warranty does not include maintenance, cleaning or

periodic checkup. During the period specified above, ADJ Products, LLC will replace defective

parts at its expense with new or refurbished parts and will absorb all expenses for warranty

service and repair labor by reason of defects in material or workmanship. The sole responsibility of

ADJ Products, LLC under this warranty shall be limited to the repair of the product, or replacement

thereof, including parts, at the sole discretion of ADJ Products, LLC. All products covered by this

warranty were manufactured after August 15, 2012, and bear identifying marks to that effect.

E. ADJ Products, LLC reserves the right to make changes in design and/or improvements upon

its products without any obligation to include these changes in any products theretofore

manufactured. No warranty, whether expressed or implied, is given or made with respect to any

accessory supplied with products described above. Except to the extent prohibited by applicable

law, all implied warranties made by ADJ Products, LLC in connection with this product, including

warranties of merchantability or fitness, are limited in duration to the warranty period set forth

above. And no warranties, whether expressed or implied, including warranties of merchantability

or fitness, shall apply to this product after said period has expired. The consumer’s and/or Dealer’s

sole remedy shall be such repair or replacement as is expressly provided above; and under no

circumstances shall ADJ Products, LLC be liable for any loss or damage, direct or consequential,

arising out of the use of, or inability to use, this product. This warranty is the only written warranty

applicable to ADJ Products, LLC Products and supersedes all prior warranties and written

descriptions of warranty terms and conditions heretofore published.

• Laser Products = 1-Year (365 Days) (excluding laser diodes which have a 6-Month Limited

Warranty)

• LED Products = 2-Year (730 Days) (excluding batteries which have a 180 Day Limited Warranty)

PLEASE NOTE: 2-Year (730 Days) Limited Warranty ONLY applies to product purchased

within the USA.

This xture is a sophisticated piece of electronic equipment. To guarantee smooth operation, it is

important to follow all instructions and guidelines in this manual. ADJ is not responsible for injury and/

or damages resulting from the misuse of this xture due to the disregard of the information printed in

this manual. Only qualied and/or certied personnel should perform installation of this xture and only

the original rigging parts (omega brackets) included with this xture should be used for installation. Any

modications to the xture and/or the included mounting hardware will void the original manufacturer’s

warranty and increase the risk of damage and/or personal injury.

PROTECTION CLASS 1 - FIXTURE MUST BE PROPERLY GROUNDED.

THERE ARE NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE THIS UNIT. DO NOT ATTEMPT

ANY REPAIRS YOURSELF, AS DOING SO WILL VOID YOUR MANUFACTURER’S

• DO NOT TOUCH the fixture housing during operation.

• Turn OFF the power and allow approximately 15 minutes for the fixture to cool down before

serving.

• DO NOT shake fixture, avoid brute force when installing and/or operating fixture.

• DO NOT operate fixture if the power cord is frayed, crimped, damaged and/or if any of the power

cord connectors are damaged and do not insert into the fixture securely with ease.

• NEVER force a power cord connector into the fixture. If the power cord or any of its connectors

are damaged, replace it immediately with a new one of similar power rating.

• DO NOT block any air ventilation slots. All fan and air inlets must remain clean and never

blocked. Allow approx. 7.9” (20cm) between fixture and a wall for proper cooling.

• When installing fixture in a suspended environment, always use mounting hardware that is at

least M10 x 25 mm, and always install fixture with an appropriately rated safety cable.

• Always disconnect fixture from main power source before performing any type of service and/or

cleaning procedure.

• Only handle the power cord by the plug end, and never pull out the plug by tugging the wire

portion of the cord.

• During the initial operation of this fixture, a light smoke or smell may emit from the interior of

the fixture. This is a normal process and is caused by excess paint in the interior of the casing

burning off from the heat associated with the lamp and will decrease gradually over time.

• Consistent operational breaks will ensure fixture will function properly for many years.

• In the event that the fixture needs to be returned for servicing, use only the original packaging

and materials to transport the fixture.

RISK GROUP 3 - RISK OF EXPOSURE TO ULTRAVIOLET UV

RADIATION! FIXTURE EMITS HIGH INTENSITY WAVELENGTH

OF ULTRAVIOLET UV LIGHT AT A WAVELENGTH OF 399NM -

435NM. WEAR PROPER EYE AND SKIN PROTECTION. AVOID

PROLONGED PERIODS OF EXPOSURE TO UV COLOR FILTER.

AVOID WEARING WHITE COLOR CLOTHING AND/OR USING

UV PAINTS ON SKIN. AVOID DIRECT EYE AND/OR SKIN

EXPOSURE AT DISTANCES LESS THAN 11 feet (3.3m). DO NOT

OPERATE FIXTURE WITH DAMAGED OR MISSING EXTERNAL

SAFETY GUIDELINES

POTENTIAL INTERNAL FIXTURE DAMAGE FROM EXTERNAL SOURCES OF LIGHT BEAMS

External sources of light beams from direct sunlight, lighting moving head fixtures, and lasers, which

are focused directly towards the exterior housing and/or penetrate the front lens opening of ADJ lighting

fixtures, can cause severe internal damage including burning to optics, dichroic color filters, glass and

metal gobos, prisms, animation wheels, frost filters, iris, shutters, motors, belts, wiring, discharge lamps,

and LEDs.

This issue is not specific only to ADJ lighting fixtures, it is a common issue with lighting fixtures from all

manufacturers. Although there is no true way to fully prevent this issue from happening, the guidelines

below can prevent any potential damage from occurring if followed. Contact ADJ Service for more details.

DO NOT EXPOSE THE FIXTURE AND/OR FRONT LENS OPENING TO LIGHT BEAMS FROM

DIRECT SUNLIGHT, OTHER LIGHTING MOVING HEAD FIXTURES, AND LASERS WHILE

UNPACKING, INSTALLATION, USE, AND EXTENDED IDLE TIMES OUTDOORS.

DO NOT FOCUS A LIGHT BEAM FROM ONE LIGHTING FIXTURE DIRECTLY TOWARDS ANOTHER.

MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES

DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE!

CLEANING

Frequent cleaning is recommended to insure proper function, optimized light output, and an extended

life. The frequency of cleaning depends on the environment in which the xture operates: damp,

smoky, or particularly dirty environments can cause greater accumulation of dirt on the xture’s optics.

Clean the external lens surface regularly with a soft cloth to avoid dirt/debris accumulation.

NEVER use alcohol, solvents, or ammonia-based cleaners.

MAINTENANCE

Regular inspections are recommended to insure proper function and extended life. There are no user

serviceable parts inside this xture. Please refer all other service issues to an authorized Elation service

technician. Should you need any spare parts, please order genuine parts from your local Elation dealer.

Please refer to the following points during routine inspections:

• A detailed electrical check by an approved electrical engineer every three months, to make sure the

circuit contacts are in good condition and prevent overheating.

• Be sure all screws and fasteners are securely tightened at all times. Loose screws may fall out

during normal operation, resulting in damage or injury as larger parts could fall.

• Check for any deformations on the housing, color lenses, rigging hardware, and rigging points

(ceiling, suspension, trussing). Deformations in the housing could allow for dust to enter into the

xture. Damaged rigging points or unsecured rigging could cause the xture to fall and seriously

injure a person(s).

• Electric power supply cables must not show any damage, material fatigue, or sediments.

NEVER remove the ground prong from the power cable.

FUSE REPLACEMENT

Unplug the unit from any power source it may be connected to. Once the power has been disconnected,

use a at head screw driver to unscrew the fuse holder located next to the power input. Remove the bad

fuse and replace with a new one, and screw the fuse holder back in. Only replace fuse with a new

fuse of the same type and rating.

MULTIPLE UNIT POWER LINKING

With this feature you can connect the xtures to one another using the power cable input and output sockets.

NOTE: USE CAUTION WHEN POWER LINKING OTHER FIXTURES AS THE POWER CONSUMPTION

OF OTHER MODEL FIXTURES MAY EXCEED THE MAX POWER OUTPUT ON THIS FIXTURE!

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

DO NOT INSTALL THE FIXTURE IF YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO DO SO!

Fixture MUST be installed following all local, national, and country commercial electrical and construction

codes and regulations.

Before rigging/mounting a single xture to any metal truss/structure or placing the xture(s) on any

surface, a professional equipment installer MUST be consulted to determine if the metal truss/structure

or surface is properly certied to safely hold the combined weight of the xture(s), clamps, cables, and

accessories.

Ambient operating temperature range is 32°F. (0°C) to 104°F. (40°C).

Fixture(s) should be installed in areas outside walking paths, seating areas, or away from areas where

unauthorized personnel might reach the xture by hand.

NEVER stand directly below the xture(s) when rigging, removing or servicing.

Overhead xture installation must always be secured with a secondary safety attachment, such as an

appropriately rated safety cable that can hold 10 times the weight of the xture. Allow approximately 15

minutes for the xture to cool down before serving.

CLAMP INSTALLATION

Screw one clamp via a M12 screw and nut into each Omega

Bracket. Insert the quick-lock fasteners of the Omega

Bracket into the respective holes of the xture base.

NOTE: The clamp must be attached to the Omega

Bracket before attaching the bracket to the xture.

Tighten the quick-lock fasteners fully clockwise. Pull

the safety-cable through the opening located on the

bottom of the unit and over the trussing system or a

safe xation spot. Insert the end in the carabiner, and

tighten the safety screw.

The VIZI CMY300 is fully operational in three mounting positions: hanging upside-down, mounted

sideways on trussing, or set on a at, level surface. Ensure this xture is kept at least 0.7ft (0.2m) away

from any ammable materials (decorations, etc.). Always use and install a safety cable as a safety

measure to prevent accidental damage and/or injury in the event the clamp fails. Never use the carrying

handles for secondary attachment.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

When installing the unit, the trussing or area of installation must be able to hold 10 times the weight

without any deformation. When installing, the unit must be secured with a secondary safety attachment,

e.g. and appropriate safety cable. Never stand directly below the unit when mounting, removing, or

servicing the unit.

Overhead mounting requires extensive experience, including calculating working load limits, installation

material being used, and periodic safety inspection of all installation material and unit. If you lack these

qualications, do not attempt the installation yourself.

These installations should be checked by a skilled person once a year.

GOBOS & GOBO REPLACEMENT

The glass gobo’s are the only gobo’s that are interchangable in this unit. Remember when changing

these gobo’s that they are glass. Please do this process gently so you do not break the gobo.

Caution! Never open the unit when in use. Always disconnect the main power before attempting to

change the gobos.

Note: Gobo 4 has no retainer ring. The gobo is held in by high temperature silicon sealant.

1. With the xture on a clean, rm, and at surface and engage tilt locks.

GOBOS & GOBO REPLACEMENT

1. Unscrew the four (4) screws that secure the shell to the moving head, then remove the safety clip

that attaches near the bottom of the head and remove the shell.

GOBOS & GOBO REPLACEMENT

2. Remove the shell to access the gobo wheel. Turn the wheel by hand until you come across the

gobo to be replaced appears..

3. Remove the individual gobo holders by gently pushing the gobo holder (Not the wheel) up and

away from the gobo wheel. Do not the push the gobo holder to far. While pushing the gobo holder

away from the wheel, pull the gobo holder up and out.

4. Once the gobo holder has been removed, notice that high temperature silicon sealant applied to

the retainer ring. Using a small flathead screwdriver, very gently scrape away the silicon sealant to

release the retainer ring. After the retainer ring is removed, remove the gobo.

5. Change the gobo and replace the retainer ring. Reapply high temperature silicon sealant to the

same areas on the retainer ring.

6. Insert the gobo frame back into the unit, positioning it in same way as the other gobo frames.

7. Reassemble the unit.

Note that the Gobo Wheel/Color Wheel Assemblies are shown here for clarity. It is not

necessary to remove the assemblies to access the individual gobos in their holders.

GOBOS SPECIFICATIONS

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING CUSTOM GOBOS

Due to the high temperature optical system, special BOROFLOAT glass material and design

requirements are required.

Because of the varying gobo manufacturing processes and tolerances, it is highly recommended that

a gobo and gobo holder sample from the fixture be provided to the custom gobo vendor for accurate

sizing. Gobo specifications below including diameter, thickness, and materials have been tested and

are compatible in this fixture.

Using custom gobos that do not match the gobo specifications below is not recommended, and any

damage to the fixture as a result of using a custom gobo is NOT covered under warranty.

Extended testing of custom gobo designs is highly recommended prior to using. PLEASE CONTACT

ADJ CUSTOMER SUPPORT FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

GOBOS 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 ARE SECURED IN THE GOBO HOLDER

WITH A RETAINER SPRING AND HIGH TEMPERATURE SILICONE

SEALANT.

DMX SETUP

DMX-512: DMX is short for Digital Multiplex. This is a universal protocol used as a form of communication

between intelligent xtures and controllers. A DMX controller sends DMX data instructions from the

controller to the xture. DMX data is sent as serial data that travels from xture to xture via the DATA

“IN” and DATA “OUT” XLR terminals located on all DMX xtures (most controllers only have a DATA

“OUT” terminal).

DMX Linking: DMX is a language allowing all makes and models of different manufactures to be

linked together and operate from a single controller, as long as all xtures and the controller are DMX

compliant. To ensure proper DMX data transmission, when using several DMX xtures try to use the

shortest cable path possible. The order in which xtures are connected in a DMX line does not inuence

the DMX addressing. For example; a xture assigned a DMX address of 1 may be placed anywhere in

a DMX line, at the beginning, at the end, or anywhere in the middle. When a xture is assigned a DMX

address of 1, the DMX controller knows to send DATA assigned to address 1 to that unit, no matter

where it is located in the DMX chain.

Data Cable (DMX Cable) Requirements (For DMX Operation): The VIZI

CMY300 can be controlled via DMX-512 protocol. The DMX address is set on

the front panel of the VIZI CMY300. Your unit and your DMX controller require a

5-pin XLR connector for data input and data output. We recommend Accu-Cable

DMX cables. If you are making your own cables, be sure to use standard 110-

120 Ohm shielded cable (This cable may be purchased at almost all pro lighting

stores).Your cables should be made with a male and female XLR connector on

either end of the cable. Also remember that DMX cable must be daisy chained

and cannot be split.

Notice: Be sure to follow the gures below when making your own cables. Do not use the ground lug

on the XLR connector. Do not connect the shield of the cable conductor to the ground lug, or allow the

shield conductor to come in contact with the outer casing of the XLR. Grounding the shield could cause

a short circuit and erratic behavior.

SPECIAL NOTE: LINE TERMINATION

When longer runs of cable are used, you may need to use a terminator on the last unit to avoid erratic

behavior. A terminator is a 110-120 ohm 1/4 watt resistor, which is connected between pins 2 and 3 of a

male XLR connector (DATA + and DATA -). This unit is inserted in the female XLR connector of the last

unit in your daisy chain to terminate the line. Using a cable terminator (ADJ part number Z-DMX/T) will

decrease the possibilities of erratic behavior.

DMX SETUP

5-Pin XLR DMX Connectors. The VIZI CMY300 uses 5-pin DMX-512 data cables for DATA transmission

in place of a 3-pin. 5-pin DMX xtures may be implemented in a 3-pin DMX line. When inserting

standard 5-pin data cables in to a 3-pin line a cable adapter must be used, these adapters are readily

available at most electric stores. The chart below details a proper cable conversion.

DMX ADDRESSING

All xtures should be given a DMX starting address when using a DMX controller, so the correct xture

responds to the correct control signal. This digital starting address is the channel number from which

the xture starts to “listen” to the digital control signal sent out from the DMX controller. The assignment

of this starting DMX address is achieved by setting the correct DMX address on the digital control

display on the xture.

You can set the same starting address for all xtures or a group of xtures, or set different addresses for

each individual xture. Setting all xtures to the same DMX address will cause all xtures to react in the

same way, in other words, changing the settings of one channel will affect all the xtures simultaneously.

If you set each xture to a dierent DMX address, each unit will start to “listen” to the channel number

you have set, based on the quantity of DMX channels of each xture. That means changing the settings

of one channel will only aect the selected xture.

In the case of the VIZI CMY300, when in 21 channel mode you should set the starting DMX address of

the rst unit to 1, the second unit to 22 (21 + 1), the third unit to 43 (22 + 21), and so on. (See the chart

below for more details.)

SYSTEM MENU

The xture includes an easy to navigate system menu control panel display where all necessary settings

and adjustments are made. During normal operation, pressing the MENU button once will access the

xture’s main menu. Once in the main menu, you can navigate through the different functions with the

UP and DOWN buttons. When you reach a eld that requires adjusting, press the ENTER button to

access that eld and use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to adjust the eld. Pressing the ENTER button

once more will conrm your setting. You may exit the main menu at any time without making any

adjustments by pressing the MENU button.

System Menu Access: To access the system menu when the xture is not powered using the

internal battery, press and hold the MODE button to illuminate the LCD screen until the DMX

address is displayed. Then navigate to the desired system menu.
