SAFETY WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: When using tool, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce
the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment.
Read all instructions before using this product!
In this manual:
WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result
in death or serious personal injury.
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in
a minor/moderate personal injury or damage to this tool or the unit being tested by it.
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite
accidents.
Keep children away while operating the Digital Multimeter. Keep children out of
the work area. Not a toy. Keep away from children.
Stay alert. Do not operate the Digital Multimeter while tired or under the influence of
drugs, alcohol, or medication.
Use the correct tool for your application. Do not use it for applications other than
intended.
Maintain the Digital Multimeter with care. Do not use a damaged Digital Multimeter.
Tag a damaged Digital Multimeter “Do not use” until repaired.
Multimeter service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service
or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury.

Use eye and ear protection. Always wear ANSI-approved impact safety goggles and
work gloves.
Avoid working alone. If an accident happens, an assistant can bring help.
Avoid electrical shock. Use extreme caution when testing uninsulated conductors
or bus bars. Prevent body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators,
ranges and cabinet enclosures when testing.
Maintain tools with care. Inspect the Multimeter before use. Make certain that
the Multimeter has a fresh battery. Pay special attention to the insulation protecting
the probes and lead.
Do not use the Multimeter if:
The test leads are damaged in any way
The battery is low
Any abnormal operation is detected (if in doubt about the condition of the Multimeter,
have it serviced)
The battery cover is open.
Check the leads for exposed metal, damaged insulation, and continuity. Replace
damaged test leads immediately, before use.
Do not test voltage on circuits higher than 600 volts AC or 600 volts DC.
Do not test current on circuits higher than 200 mA (0.2 amps).
Do not expose to rain or wet conditions. Water entering will increase the risk of
electric shock.
Disconnect the multimeter from the power source before making any adjustments,
changing accessories, or storing the tool. Always cap the probe and test lead
before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of electric shock.
Do not operate in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable
liquids, gases, or dust. Sparks may ignite the dust or fumes.
Do not switch between testing modes with the Multimeter connected to a cir-
cuit.
Cap the probe and test lead before performing maintenance, opening the case,
or the battery compartment.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Use caution when working near voltages above 30 VAC rms, 42 VAC peak, or 60
VDC. Voltages this high present a risk of electric shock.
Disconnect the circuit’s power before connecting the meter in series, when mea-
suring current.

Connect the common (COM) test lead first and disconnect it last.
Hold the probes with fingers behind guards.
CAUTION
Prior to testing resistance, diodes, or continuity; disconnect all power to the
circuit and discharge all high-voltage capacitors.
Check fuse before testing current.
Use the proper settings, terminals, techniques, and range for the tests performed.
Always start with the range stated in the instructions.
Warning: The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual can-
not cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood
by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into
this product, but must be supplied by the operator.
UNPACKING
When unpacking, check to make sure that the Digital Multimeter is intact and undam-
aged. If any parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number shown
on the cover of this manual as soon as possible.

Input probe and test lead
The Digital Multimeter has both an Input Probe and a Test Lead. The Input Probe is used
for positive polarity and is used when testing voltage, resistance, current and diode. The
Test Lead is used for negative polarity.
Hold button
Optionally, press the Hold button to keep the display reading the same after the leads
have been removed from the conductors. Press and release the Hold button again to resume
normal operation.

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
Testing Voltage (AC/DC)
Use the Mode Button to select the “V” setting. With the circuit on, carefully touch the
probe (positive polarity) and test leads (negative polarity) to the exposed conductors
with the tips to measure the voltage (not amperes).
The Multimeter will give you a reading in the LCD display.
Testing Resistance
Warning: Never measure resistance on a circuit with voltage running through it.
Set the Mode Button to the Ohm (W) setting.
Touch the Test Lead and Probe together. The meter should read “0” Ohms. The continu-
ity test is done to determine if the circuit is open or closed. Unplug the product being
tested prior to using the Multimeter on the product.
While the test leads are not touching anything, the Multimeter LCD readout will show a
reading of infinity. This indicates an open circuit that can not conduct current. Touching
probe and test lead together will change the reading to zero. This indicates that the
circuit is closed and can conduct current.
Touch the exposed conductors with the tips of the Test Lead and Probe.
Read measurement in Ohms. If the reading is zero and the tone sounds then there is
continuity between the two conductors.
Diode Test
Use the same steps as “Measuring Resistance. Connect the Probe to the positive pole
of the diode, and the Test Lead to the negative pole of the diode.
Read the forward resistance on the LCD readout.
DC Current Measurements
Set the Mode Button to the Current (mA) position. Disconnect power to the circuit.
WARNING: This Meter is designed only for small scale amperage testing. Do not use
unless you are certain that the voltage is under 600 V and that the amperage is under
200 mA (milliamps) or 0.2 amps.
Carefully connect the two probes inline with the circuit, so that the current must pass
through the meter.
WARNING! Keep fingers and all conductive materials clear from the metal parts of
the probes. Connect power and read measurement. Carefully disconnect power and
disconnect meter from circuit.

Operating the Pen Light
Press the “Pen Light” button to turn on the Pen Light. This will shine a light from the
front end of the Multimeter, allowing you to see the Probe end of the Multimeter.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Multimeter does not turn On or Off.
Make certain Power button is ON.
Check battery.
Check that battery is installed correctly.
Probe and leads do not give feedback.
Make certain Power button is ON.
Check battery.
Check that battery is installed correctly.
Probe and Lead reading is not reasonable
Verify that Probe is not touching Lead
Verify that Probe (positive) and Lead (negative) are correctly touching connec-
tions.
MAINTENANCE
Protect the Digital Multimeter from rough use. It is susceptible to damage from being
dropped, struck, improperly mounted or other abuse. The precision movement is similar
to a watch works, and should be treated accordingly.
Protect the Multimeter from exposure to water or corrosive materials. It should be
kept clean and dry. Occasional cleaning with a clean rag will extend its life and good
appearance.
Store in a dry location to inhibit rust. Keep out of the reach of children.
Replacing the battery
Remove the battery cover by gently sliding it off.
Replace the battery with the type specified. Insert it into the compartment so the
positive and negative polarity match those indicated.
Insert the ends of the Battery Cover back over the battery compartment then slide
it into place.
Dispose of the old battery in accordance with local ordinances for proper dispos-
al.
Replacement parts are not available for this product.
