Casio FX-9860GII - SOFTWARE VERSION 2-00 is a powerful graphing calculator that can be used for a variety of mathematical and scientific calculations. Unit II: Probability
(1c) How to write fractions in natural display using the Casio fx-9860GII
1. From the main menu, highlight the RUN•MAT icon
and press
l.
2. Press L then p for the Set-up screen; scroll
down to Frac Result. At the bottom of the screen,
there are two choices;
q will display fractions
as "improper", while w will display fractions as
mixed numbers.
3. Select q to display answers as "improper"
fractions. Then, press d to return to the initial
screen.

press x. This is the "form to decimal" key and
operates as a toggle key.

2. Once the number is in decimal form, multiply by 100
to change to percent form. It may be necessary to

(1a) Seeding a calculator
It is not necessary to seed the Casio fx-9860GII.
(1e) How to use random sampling - choosing 5 schools from a list of 1000
1. From the main menu, highlight the RUN•MAT icon
and press l. If there is data on the screen, press
w(DEL), w(DEL-A), then q for yes.
2. Press iu(> ), e(PROB), r(RAND) and w
(Int). Then input 1,1000,5

random sample 494, 219, 869, 587, and 144. Each
sample will be unique.

1. From the main menu, highlight the STAT icon
and press l. If any list contains data, highlight
any entry in the list and then press

2. When all lists are cleared, title each column. Press
B to scroll to the SUB row. Then press La(A-
LOCK) to activate Alpha-lock. Using the red letters at
the top right of each key, type the titles. Press l
after typing each title. Only 6 characters may be used
for each title. The space is above the decimal point.
Repeat these steps for each column.
Title the lists as:
List 1 – GRADE
List 2 - ST NO
List 3 – PER TO
List 4 – SAMP N
List 5 - ROUND
3. Highlight the first entry in List 1. Enter the
grades into List 1 using only the number.
Press l after each entry. Scroll to the right
and up to move to the first entry of the next list.
4. Enter the number of students into List 2. Press l
after each number. Scroll to the right and up to
move to the next list. Do not enter the total.
5. Press
p. Highlight RUN•MAT and press l
to be in the correct menu to perform operations on
lists. In order to fill List 3 with the percentage of
the total, the calculator will divide each number in
List 2 by 2,714 and then multiply by 100. The result
will be stored in List 3. Do this by pressing
iqq

6. In order to obtain the 60 samples needed, divide
List 3 by 100 and multiply by 60. Store these answers
in List 4. Do this by pressing

7. Press menu then highlight STAT and press l to
return to the lists. Scroll to the right to List 5. Round
the numbers in List 4 and enter the rounded values
into List 5.

(2b) How to save to document on classroom computer.
1. Download the FA-124 Program-Link software to the computer before connecting the
calculator to the computer. The software and cable came packaged with the Casio
fx-9860GII calculator. Connect the calculator to the computer using the cable
provided. Once connected, a connection mode screen will appear on the calculator.
Select DATA TRANSFER: [F1]. The following screen will appear on the computer.
Use the mouse to click the connection button in the top left corner (see the red
arrow on the screen shot below).
2. The following screen will appear on the computer. Click on the icon next to User1
(see the red arrow on the screen shot below).
3. Choose the file to transfer from the list that appears.
4. After selecting the data items to send, press u(TRANS). A message appears to
confirm executing the send operation. Press q(Yes). The calculator will display a
message when the transfer is complete.

to record the data to a calculator spreadsheet.
1. From the main menu, highlight the S•SHT icon
and press l.
2. Data for the first two columns can be transferred from
the CBL equipment according to the directions of the
CBL or can be entered manually. Press l after each
entry.
3. Highlight cell C2, as shown on the right.
4. Each cell in column C will give the difference of each
consecutive pair of entries in column B. Enter the
formula to compute the difference of cell B2 and cell B1
by pressing
L.ag2-ag1l.
5. Highlight cell C2 and press w(EDIT), w(COPY), then
move the cursor to cell C3 and press
q(PASTE). Scroll
